Hmm, what's up with this??! The assistant hanging up on 911 operators and security?! WHY?!! OMG >:(
Once Whitney Houston was Discovered, Emergency Advice Delayed
911 Transcript: `…she kept hanging up on us…’
A personal assistant for Whitney Houston repeatedly hung up on hotel staff in the frantic moments following the discovery of Houston’s body in a hotel bathtub, according to just-released tapes of the Feb. 11 911 call for help.
The personal assistant is not identified in the tapes released April 12 by the Beverly Hills Police Department but a transcript of the exchange between a Beverly Hilton hotel staff person and the 911 operator reflects the repeated failure to connect to Houston’s assistant in order to relay cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) instructions because the assistant kept hanging up on the hotel staff person.
Houston’s assistant, hairdresser, and bodyguard were in her room at the time the 911 call was made, according to ABC News.
According to the transcript published by ITN News April 12:
911 OPERATOR: 911 emergency. CALLER: Hi how are you doing, this is security from Beverly Hilton. 911 OPERATOR: Hi, what's going on CALLER: I need the paramedics. Apparently I've got a 46-year-old female found in the bathroom. That's all I've got right now, but they're requesting paramedics. 911 OPERATOR: She was found in the bathroom, what room is she in? CALLER: I'm not sure. She fell or she was in the bathroom with the water. 464, 434 I'm sorry. 911 OPERATOR: That's room 434? Ok. That's not east or west or anything, that's room 434? CALLER: Yeah 911 OPERATOR: Okay and you don't know if she's conscious or breathing at all? CALLER: Uh, apparently she wasn't breathing and she's 46 years old. 911 OPERATOR: She was not breathing? Okay, but she is breathing right now? CALLER: I don't know. The person that called me was irate and pretty much out of there. There's security going there now. 911 OPERATOR: Okay, we'll send police and fire over there with that person not breathing. Did it sound like the person was still not breathing? CALLER: Yes, that's correct. 911 OPERATOR: Okay we'll get in there for not breathing. Is there any way you can get me to the room so we can try and do CPR? CALLER: Yeah, we're going in there now. 911 OPERATOR: Can you get me into the room so I can try and give CPR instructions. CALLER: Oh I'm sorry, uh, no, because she kept hanging up on us. 911 OPERATOR: She kept hanging up on you? CALLER: Yeah. 911 OPERATOR: Okay right we're going to get right over there. CALLER: Okay, thank you, bye."
On Feb. 11, Houston, who was set to attend a pre-Grammy Awards ceremony party that evening, was found submerged in the bathtub of her Beverly Hills hotel room by a personal assistant. She was pulled from the tub and hotel security was notified immediately.
According to police, emergency first responders who arrived at 3:30 p.m. administered CPR. Houston remained unresponsive and was pronounced dead at 3:55 pm.
An autopsy report revealed that Houston had cocaine, marijuana, Xanax, the muscle relaxant Flexeril, and Benadryl in her system the night she died.
Beverly Hills Police Department is now declaring the case closed.
WHAT. THE. FUCK!!!!
I don't even understand why her people didn't immediately call 911 from their own cell phones, why did they have to call down to the Beverly Hilton security to dial 911? Makes absolute no sense!
I believe Whitney could've been saved. If she passed out on the floor and not in water, allegedly, she'd be here right now, it's all so careless.

Whitney Houston was deeply affected by state of her voice
Whitney Houston was "deeply, psychologically and emotionally" affected by the state of her voice shortly before her death.
The tragic singer's vocal coach and friend, Gary Catona, said her whole personality had been changed by the deterioration of her voice through smoking and drug abuse before she was found accidentally drowned at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in February.
Gary told The Sunday Times newspaper: "She was horrified by it. When someone is a singer at that level, their voice is so much of who the person is. She identified with her voice."
Gary - one of the world's leading voice coaches - first met Whitney in 2005, at which point she could barely speak. He says he managed to get her voice to return by around 75 per cent, but she never fully recovered before she would then "take off" and damage it again.
He added: "As her voice started returning, lo and behold, her personality began changing, just as I predicted. She became more confident, she became who she really was - funny, charming, an intelligent person. Her self-esteem began rising.
"But what would happen was that I would work with her, and she'd get her voice back to some extent, and then she'd take off.
"She'd try to sing here, or she'd try to sing there. Rather than getting her voice back completely, which would have secured her legacy, she got caught up in her lifestyle again and she began practicing the habits which were not beneficial to her voice."

It can sometimes depend on your cell phone provider and what area code your cell has. If it was Whitney's staff they could have had Atlanta or Jersey area codes which will connect you to 911 in those areas. I had to call 911 in Chicago once but my area code is Los Angeles. I got 911 in LA. Could happen...

Me, Whitney Houston, & BET 25th Anniversary The phone has stopped buzzin...at least for a moment. The news of Whitney Houston's has dropped like a bomb in the middle of all Pre-Grammy festivities leaving much sadness in its wake. Now some of us are working on auto-pilot because if we take a moment to really feel, nothing would get done. "The Voice," as Oprah Winfrey named her, is dead. And despite all the "crack is whack", Bobby Brown, and hell-to-the-naw jokes ain't nothing funny about losing a mother, a daughter, a niece, a friend, an undeniable inspiration to so many in the world at the young age of 48. And as I type I remember my first and only encounter with Whitney back when BET celebrated its 25th anniversary with a primetime tv special, taped at the Shrine Auditorium. Whitney was the secret surprise guest presenter who did a tribute to Luther Vandross. I was assigned to be her "talent assist" for the night. Basically the job of talent assistant entailed this: ANYTHING Whitney or her "people" needed from the show producers, that request would be relayed to me. I then would relay it to the RIGHT people in production or do it myself, which ever was quickest and most effective. When I was informed of my assignment for the evening, honestly my heart sank. My first thought was the rumors and reports of her bad behavior. So I literally prayed something like, "God, you know me and you know Whitney. Help us both to do the job we came to do without any problems or issues." Hours later as Whitney got out of her limo, I was introduced as her assistant. I said "Hi!" Whitney said nothing. That pretty much set the tone for the first part of the evening as I walked ahead of her to lead her to dressing room. But while I walked ahead, Whitney et al took a detour without me. I didn't even realize it until I arrived at my destination and looked behind me. Celebrities ditching assigned talent assists and escorts without warning happens often, but this time it was a blessing in disguise. Despite my prayer, there was of course an issue with the dressing room---someone had already occupied it! That someone was from another performer's camp. It took a "minute" and a security escort to remove the individual, but all was worked out. "Whew!" Once Whitney was in the room, her pubs and I talked outside of it about the show. At the appointed time I led them, Whitney, Bobby Kristina, and her friends backstage. Whitney was to appear after John Legend's performance. As we watched him perform the musical tribute to Luther, I looked to my left to see Whitney openly weeping. And no, it wasn't the pretty girl cry! :'( I immediately moved to find tissue, but her publicists provided plenty. How unexpected! For several minutes the cold facade of "diva" dropped and she was no longer a celebrity in my eyes, but simply a woman mourning the loss of a dear friend. Right then my perception of the "diva" Whitney Houston changed in a good way. Though she dissed me at our introduction, seeing her express that kind of raw emotion for another person really brought home the fact that celebrity doesn't shield you from pain--often it magnifies it. When she hit stage just a few minutes later, a dry-eyed, smiling Whitney had emerged to please the standing ovation crowd. There was absolutely no hint of what had happened just minutes before. She pulled off her part of the Luther tribute without another sniffle or quivering voice then left stage to adoring applause. And now several years later, here I sit, reflecting on that night and the woman with "The Voice" that inspired millions to sing--a voice that will never be replaced in the hearts of her fans, friends, and family. Like so many, I was rooting for her, not just as an entertainer, but as a person that was overcoming much. For a brief moment I got to see a side of her most didn't and seeing it changed my opinion of her and my notion of celebrity in general. So rest in peace Whitney, we WILL always love you. Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world, you had the power not only to inspire and entertain, but also heal with your voice. Now you and Luther can sing forever on the other side. Sincere condolences to the Houston family.

Here are Whitney's Soundscan era sales (taken from Billboard's Catalog Albums chart). I assume the Whitney album is out of print. The lowest album on the chart is selling a little over 1,000 copies so the sales for that album may have slipped below that due to people not downloading the album nearly as much at this point. That makes me think a lot of these sales of her older albums are the actual CD copies.

I would've loved another Gospel album in the vein of The Preacher's Wife: Original Soundtrack. Just this time I would've wanted some original work. If you want to hear excellent vocals from Whitney, that soundtrack is it. She killed it on every single song.

What do you guys consider to be Whitney's signature song other than IWALY?
I always thought "I believe in you and me" was one of her signature records even though it didnt do as well as some of her other big hits.

"Greatest Love of All" in particular. I'm hearing "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" everywhere recently.

"Greatest Love Of All" was her signature song for years. I feel like it wasn't until "I Will Always Love You" had been out for several years and had time to really "sink in" that that became her signature. I agree that post-mortem, I think "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" may eclipse "Greatest Love Of All" as the runner-up.

random: Does anyone remember the televised performance she gave back in the 90s where she stopped before she was finished with the song and just stood on stage as is in pain and someone (Bobby Brown maybe?) brought her a glass of water, then she went back to hitting the high notes?

I did. It was very touching but also a testament to the fact that ONLY Whitney could do those songs justice. She just elevated everything she touched. The Glee cast did a great job and I loved 'How Will I Know' but take "I Wanna Dance With Somebody' for instance. In someone else's hands it a nice pop song...Whitney's was an anthem!

It was touching...and nobody can ever sing the songs like Whitney so I didn't expect much. I think my favorite was the My Love Is Your Love performance at the end.
