The Spotlight was pretty good, especially compared to last week's snoozefest. I liked the way they varied the charts on which all the songs went to number one rather than just did songs that went to #1 on Urban, AC and Pop, or the same three of other formats. However, I think Casey made a slight faux pas. Did he say that "Hello" went to #1 on Pop? If so, that's not right, because on the R&R chart, the song only got as high as number two, edged out by "Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now) by Phil Collins. I highly doubt that he was using Billboards stats, but even if he was, then there was a mistake in that case, since "Downtown Train" by Rod Stewart peaked at number three on the Hot 100. Oh well, "Hello" was one of R&R's biggest hits of 1984, so I guess that's not a serious mistake. I do know that that grossly overplayed pile of cowplop that they call "All Night Long (All Night)" peaked at #1 on Pop and AC, but I don't know about Urban. But I'd much rather hear "Hello". Anyway, back to the topic...
I was pleasantly surprised to hear Elton John's new hit "Answer In The Sky" even though it has not yet hit the Top Ten. A few times, they have played yet-to-chart songs as part of the spotlight, but this was just introed as a song that's bubbling under the Top Ten. Could they be considering taking to heart my suggestion of occasionally playing a future hit?
I was also glad to hear Martina McBride's new song. It's a very touching song that brought a few tears to my eyes. It could be my next personal #1 song after the Newsong/Natalie Grant collaboration runs its course up there.
"Heaven" continues to rule the roost and could continue to do so for awhile, since I don't foresee any new number one songs in the near future.
