LOL That's how you do it Jive. Just like it didn't happen.

Is that like the new trend these days with first songs that don't perform well enough? Natasha, David, and I think there was at least one other artist that that happened with. Basically. Ciara's last album had like three 'first singles'. Poor SBL. Downgraded to a buzz single. :(

lol "buzz singles."
I find it really amusing - but in a good way. Yes, that's pretty much what you do in this industry. If Elevator does well, most people will think it was the first single anyway.

Yes lol...we were just discussing that ^^^ That's what labels do though. The truth is if Elevator does wind up hitting the general public will think it's his first single, so...
(lol soundscene beat me to it)
Even if Elevator is just a minor CHR hit, I'd be pleased. Perhaps if it at least does some damage they can re-release SBL for real this time, Who Knew style. :)

Well, to look at the positive, maybe this means that there are plenty of other songs on the album that have potential to be singles themselves.

^^ The album has two Claude Kelly songs that could potentially be CHR-type songs.

The general public might think it's the 1st single, but the PDs know that it isn't -- so are the radio stations going to introduce it as that, when they know it's not true?
Meanwhile, I don't like this song, so I don't know if this is any better of a choice than SBL. But for Archie's sake, I hope it is and that it'll catch on

I hope you guys are right, I thought these days when an artist's first single flops that basically the following tend to fail.

Claude Kelly is a pretty major pop writer. He's had writing credits on songs like My Life Would Suck Without You & Party in the USA. He collaborated with E-Man who did Crush so I'm interested to hear what they came up with.

But really, it's kind of like an unspoken let's all just sweep-it-under-the-rug type deal. One station already replaced its SBL spins for Elevator spins without missing a beat, so they ain't mad about it. lol He's still got a bunch of radio promo coming up, and now that will all translate to Elevator promotion.

Radio PDs probably don't care one way or another. For markets that didn't touch SBL, their listeners won't know it isn't the 1st single anyway.

No. But it is a trend for record labels to put out a single and then never promote it. :) This song sounds nothing like a pop hit. Maybe it can do well on the HAC/AC formats and cross over. I got a bit of a country vibe from the song in the beginning

I don't think SBL should be called a 'buzz' single. Christina's Woohoo, the Kanye friday songs or even Taylor's 'innocent song' or whatever are more of buzz singles.
SBL is more like FYE or NMT - lead singles that flopped really badly. It's really not big deal, singles flop all the time, it's just funny that JIVE is the one downplaying this, usually the fans are trying to do this when single flops.

It's really not a new thing for record labels to call a flopped first single a buzz single. Adam's Whataya Want From Me is referred to as his first single often, and to the general public, it is, because most people didn't hear FYE. NMT actually got sizable airplay though unlike SBL and FYE so that one you couldn't call a buzz single.

Reliable KUDD apparently just spun Elevator - I assume the new mix that was just sent out an hour ago. I didn't hear it so I don't know how it's different.

Hopefully there won't be confusion like the TMH/ALTNOY mixups with some stations adding the wrong song. -- Question
I think pop lovers (especially young ones) mostly like songs about love. I answer questions on Yahoo Answers and most of the looking-for-music questions I see are looking for songs about crushes, missing someone you love, not being over someone, etc.
SBL didn't have love - was basically a song about not having love. Elevator doesn't have love either.
What are some quirky pop songs that made it to top 10 and don't have love in them? The only quirky hits I can think of have love.

This song is so cute and breezy. Probably to AC for pop though.

Rurry - Ugh (except for California Gurls which is ok). Anything else that isn't rap and doesn't have the word sh*t in it? I was thinking more of stuff like I'm Yours, Colbie Caillat stuff etc. And anyone found a link to listen to the new version of Elevator since Mike remixed it for radio single release? That Youtube linked on the previous page was posted before Mike re-mixed it for release (the Youtube must have used the pre-remixing version ProFM played that Mike described as a bad MP3 when he did the new mix on Sept 7) BTW - Elevator live at Delta Fair www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDkI6F8zdtgWhat I don't like about Elevator as a David single is that is has no soul at all in it. For me, it doesn't show any of what I love about David's voice. It may be like his personality but it's not like any singing I have ever heard him do. On a related note, in Memphis a DJ told David his voice had soul in it and David said "Really?". (I'm thinking who is this David and what did he do with the David who wanted to sing soulful pop) Mediabase request for WPRO has both SBL and Elevator and no clip for Elevator www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/7/stationplaylistrequest.asp?c_let=wpro-fm

This song is so cute and breezy. Probably to AC for pop though. Not anymore than "I'm Yours". I don't think the format of the song is really a problem, I just don't find it all that compelling. Maybe it will do something better than SBL though, that sure went nowhere.

I like this song quite a bit but the first verse is a drag, and that kills you on the radio.
