It's really not a new thing for record labels to call a flopped first single a buzz single. Adam's Whataya Want From Me is referred to as his first single often, and to the general public, it is, because most people didn't hear FYE. NMT actually got sizable airplay though unlike SBL and FYE so that one you couldn't call a buzz single. I sorta agree with this. Adam and RCA has always referred FYE as the first single but the public never got to hear it. It was pulled from radio within two weeks and replaced by Whataya Want From Me. FYE sold 300,000 copies in the US and was licensed to Fox, E!, Showtime and UK for commercial use. The video is still on Itune top 200. While it did not do well on radio in the US, FYE the single went Gold and Platinum in several countries. It was the buzz song to officially introduce Adam internationally and it has just been released to Australia as Adams third single, so I don't think RCA considers this song a flop since it has been making money. I read that Archie's SBL is doing well internationally on radio so maybe they could follow the same path and push the song there and work on elevator in the US. The bottom line is they need to recoup their loss so it makes sense to not waste the song or video. Now, were talking Jive here so I don't have a lot of faith in them. I get the feeling that since Sony cut ties with Idol they are screwing them. Allison gets dropped, Kris single flopped and now they are dropping the ball on Archie which is a shame because I love his voice and he deserves better. His management is doing a good job keeping him visible so I put the blame on Jive. I can't imagine why they would pass up a Claude Kelly song. Elevator sounds more like a third or fourth single to me. I think they could have pushed SBL to pop more because he does fit the format. JMO.

LOL flop is a flop. why splitting the hair? FYE is a flop, so? Is Adam's career over? obviously not, right? so let's move on to the Elevator, going up, going down, even though i see more of going down. LOL

There is a big world out there and while the music industry and albums sales keep tanking here in the US his label goal is for international success.

I get the feeling that since Sony cut ties with Idol they are screwing them. Allison gets dropped, Kris single flopped and now they are dropping the ball on Archie which is a shame because I love his voice and he deserves better. If Sony really wanted to screw Idols they wouldn't waste money by releasing anything. They could just shelve Archie's album. Even if they were contractually bound to release it, it would be a dump and run... they would certainly not bother sending a second song to radio. Allison got dropped because of dismal sales, and the fact that nothing caught on after 3 single tries... one of them being a Max Martin song and one being remixed to include someone who just had a top 10 hit. And there is ample evidence that Jive did try to work The Truth to radio, plus they shot a video that did not look cheap. Sony isn't sabotaging them, no worries. Jive has just not been doing things well l lately IMO. They are in the middle of a dismal run. Anyway, I finally listened to the link for Other Side of Down (thanks frogcooke!) and I like the clip. I do want to hear the Claude Kelly songs too. I am intrigued as to why they are not singles. ???

^^ what other station would they put it on since it's new pop? Of course it's on pop. I was was hoping it would be on-demand so I could replay it, compare it to the other mix, etc. Last time they put something on their radio I never managed to hear it at all until it was elsewhere. For Elevator this AM I listened for 45 minutes at home and it did not play at 11:30 like they said it would or even by 11:45. But amazingly I just caught it at work. Without being able to compare side by side I don't hear much difference. The drums seems awfully loud but that could be the too bassy speakers on the work PC I had to use to play the web radio. BTW - AOL Radio blurb page about Elevator www.aolradioblog.com/2010/09/14/david-archuleta-elevator/

It's up under Cool New Music on All Access now.
mms://wm.allaccess.com/allaccess/davielev.wma <-- full version
The song fades out at around 3:15 so it's a pretty short song. I'm loving it the more I hear it. The quirkiness of it. Makes me feel happy. lol. The final version is just a lot fuller - more going on in the chorus, more instrumentation (bass, drums). The chorus is more driving now than it was in the demo. The All Access file still isn't HQ, but it's better than previous recorded versions of the song.

The finalized version sounds a lot better, less demo/amateurish.

Yeah sounds fuller and more polished - I can listen to that on my computer with the good speakers at work.
Which do you think will be on the album and single? This radio version or the older one?

I think it was like #2 on the Bubbling Under the week it went for sale on iTunes. It made it to #30 on iTunes then fell fast.

He doesn't need Idol. He just needs good promotion from his label. Idol is going to be irrelevant this year anyway. A performance on Glee would do him better. lol.

Do you think they'll do a video for Elevator? People are still playing the SBL video (3 million views) and still commenting on it. Some people are asking others to request both SBL and Elevator - is that good or bad?

It's too bad it isn't a cover of Guy Sebastian's "Elevator Love" which was a great pop tune. (super catchy). Anyway, I'm rooting for David to have some success with this!

Elevator was Pick or Kick on Radio Disney today - fans knew about it so it is Pick by a huge margin.

^^ That always happens. The final results aren't until Saturday though. The strange thing is that SBL was more Radio Disney-friendly than Elevator, but Radio Disney refused to play it. My guess is because it was too long. But it's good RD is gonna play it--eventually it'll get the song some extra sales.

Disney is already playing this. They never played SBL. So hopefully this is a sign that Jive is pushing it.
