This is now at radio, and it goes for adds on October 4th.
Writers: Marty Dodson/Jennifer Hanson/Mark Nesler
Lyrics:
There's a little moonlight dancing on the sand There's a warm breeze blowing by the ocean As you're taking my hand You need to know where I'm standing now That I'm right on the edge of giving in to you Baby it's a long way down
If I fall can you let me down easy If I leave my heart with you tonight Will you promise me that you're gonna treat it right I'm barely hanging on If I fall can you let me down easy
The scent of your perfume floating in the air You're looking like an angel lying on a blanket With a halo of hair And those lips, they're too good to be true Once I taste that kiss I know what'll happen I'll be at the mercy of you
If I fall can you let me down easy If I leave my heart with you tonight Will you promise me that you're gonna treat it right I'm barely hanging on So if I fall can you let me down easy
If I fall can you let me down easy If I leave my heart with you tonight Will you promise me girl you're gonna treat it right I'm barely hanging on So if I fall can you let me down easy If I fall can you let me down easy

^Not the best lryics. They're not horrible, but not quite satisfying because I know Billy can put out better material. But right now seems to be the time where he's establishing himself as a #1 type of guy, so perhaps he's playing it a bit safe. My favorite single of his remains his debut "Walk A Little Straighter", and I also liked "Good Directions" quite a bit. His recent singles have been pretty good, and I've heard a preview of this and it sounds pretty good. Just not legendary.

I like this well enough. It's not amazing by any means, but it's a pleasant enough song that should continue Billy's string of hits.

He's been essentially unstoppable at the format for at least 4 1/2 years, going back to 'Must be Doing Something Right', and this will undoubtedly be another smash single for him.

Good to see another Jennifer Hanson co-write on radio. I hope she could release something again.

Very surprised "Until You" wasn't chosen after listening to the album. But It can always be the next single.

Well we now know that LMDE will peak higher than #30 -But will it keep Billy's #1 streak going? I think it will manage #1 from either MB or BB but perhaps not both. They have kept the song viable and climbing through some big hits and the holiday slow down - We will see as it moves into #3 tihs week with DWYS #1 (2nd week) and red hot AYGTKMON right behind -let's see how creative they can be. Of course, Billy's back from vac - to tour and do radio support.

I think that this thread wins the award for least amounts of posts for a #1 song (assuming its there tomorrow).

The published panel for Mediabase update for Sunday 7:00pm shows Billy at #1 with increase spin count, audience gain, and point counts with slighlty more than Thompson Square or Jason. Remember he lead all week on Mediabase by a huge margin for PGADB and they gave a 3rd week to Blake...it will be interesting to see if they give it to him.
I agree this thread has very few posts, most of the posts mentioning this song are on other threads, I found the thread buried 4 or 5 pages back a couple of weeks ago.
Yes Billy is underrated and under promoted (but he has to take care of that). I will have more thoughts after we see what happens.

Are you saying that PGADB was #1 in MB points on a Sunday evening and MB wasn't the #1 song on MB/Aircheck? I can't imagine that happened and nobody commented on it. PGADB was about 300k behind Blake's song on Billboard the week of the 9/11 chart, so on Billboard it had to wait for another week.

I just saw this post but i have to go somewhere else right now but would like to respond, i will check some things and add some more thoughts later but i firmly believe that PGADB got denied a week at #1 and since there is no update by now on Monday I am assuming something is up this time as well.

I am hoping for Like My Dog also and wonder if the death of Harley Allen (songwriter) will make it be released or keep it from it. Others are wanting Until You or All Day Long which would be fine but we need a break from the romance for awhile. I think Until You would be better in the fall actually.
Also there is an "official" video for Let Me Down Easy running on GAC now, just starting this week. Touring shots mostly it seems of RodeoHouston and first stadium date for Goin Coastal. Leave it to Billy to have a video after the song has peaked. His marketing has always been a bit different.

I think the main reason they didn't get out a video was because Universal was having a "dispute" or whatever you want to call it (ask Matt B from Roughstock, he knows what I'm talking about) with CMT and GAC, so that's why Sugarland (also on Universal) didn't get a video for "Little Miss" either.

In reply to jthomas87;
I knew about the dispute with CMT(MTV) "online" properties but did not know that it also included GAC. I did not think it ever included running UMG videos on TV. I have seen Sugarland videos on both Pure Country and CMT and limited of Billy on Pure Country (mostly Don't and his Sessions 330 videos) So maybe with this release, some of the dispute has been settled and will be good to see both Sugarland and Billy back with videos.
It does show the strength of Billy (song choice/production & team organization) to pull off the #1 here, as (see my post below from TICM), He had virtually no support with country press (if there is such a thing), video and yet he accomplished what BTD and TICM could not. Billy and team had successfully warded off every song that could possible block them and then at the last had to deal with AYGTKMON exploding right behind them.
From TICM: "About this (ref: TICM) going to #1, it probably will on Mediabase but it may not make it all the way on Billboard due to DYWS being what it is. Both Brad and Taylor have spent too much time trying to dance by Billy which they should have done easily given their status and the media & video exposure their songs have had that LMDE has not had (which should say something for the strength of Billy and LMDE) In fact all three songs being discussed BTD, DYWS, and TICM were performed on the CMAs and have almost continuous video airplay on GAC/CMT and should have passed Billy easily but they couldn't quite get by him, DYWS has had the easiest time. But right now I see Taylor, Brad, and Billy moving up in their respective positions and DYWS leapfrogging over all of them and then it will be just what song everyone is not tired of or labels push the most. (Billy could change the equation if he released a video for LMDE as he has not yet, so he still has that bullet, even though I feel this is unlikely at this point)" (Update: Taylor charged up ahead and got MB, but did not get BB; Brad stalled at #2 on both; Billy got both)
Also, just observation on vocals: LAB-Charles Kelly lead vocals versus B. Currington Start dates/impact dates same for both OKOL/PGADB & HW/LMDE Who peaked the highest and quickest: Billy 2; Charles/LAB: 0. Billy can't beat LAB with Hillary on lead though, yet. And again without near the support and exposure LAB gets.
Is he underrated and under promoted, I would say yes to both.
One more thought before I leav - Goin Coastal Tour has 3 songs in the Top 10. How many weeks do you think they can keep that up?

Major label music videos are insanely expensive and some artists (George Strait comes to mind) simply don't like making 'em. Billy could be one of these artists. GAC has agreements with UMG as far as I know, it's only Viacom/MTV Networks and thats' only for UMG major labels (UMG Nash/Interscope/Universal Republic/Universal Motown/Decca Label Group). Show Dog-Universal and Republic Nashville (which is housed under 'indie' Big Machine) do not fall into the category w/CMT. Jaye, I don't think it's right to compare artists A vs. artist B. I also think that you could've said Lady A instead of LAB. it's only two more letters. As for the follow-up single, I bet it's "Until You."

^^For jaye: First, welcome to Pulse Music Board. I have seen a few of your posts and I am impressed. Second, all the points you made about Billy Currington are correct. I think he won out due to the fact that everyone was expecting #1s out of Taylor Swift (really #3) and Brad Paisley (really #2). The thing about Currington is that his songs are so simple that anyone can sing them, but does not (I find myself singing People Are Crazy a lot). The only two things I can think that saves Currington is his vocal delivery (you have to admit it is there) and his look, which obviously drives his female base. He only has to collect two more #1s to be the artist on the Mercury label with the most #1s (Shania Twain, his one time duet partner, would be #2 with her seven chart toppers-due to change if the rumors are true that she will be releasing a CD this year-it would go well with her show on the Oprah Winfrey Network). Lastly, I just love your observation!

Yes, I agree. Videos are expensive to make and point taken George Strait doesn’t make very many. Then again he may not need to at this point. (Quick check of Vevo shows 12 for Strait.) I also agree that Billy may also not see the need to make a video for every song as others do. I do have thoughts about marketing but that would probably be better stated over on the Singles Discussion/Misc page.
Thank you for grouping the record labels for me (us), I have been trying to figure this out since this ‘dispute’ started. The intertwining between the record labels are as bad as any southern family. Best way I had was going to CMT and seeing whose photos/videos were missing and whose was there.
Jaye,
I don't think it's right to compare artists A vs. artist B. I also think that you could've said Lady A instead of LAB. it's only two more letters.
I will be more respectful of Lady A. I will stand by Billy beating Charles twice (since you get the feeling he thinks Lady A would not be anything without him). The industry has awarded Lay A everything for one song and will do yet again most likely Sunday night. They have not yet to lived up to the hype in my opinion if they’re followup singles are taking as long as they are to climb the charts and falling short at that. They need everything to get there. I most likely will be watching Sara Evans to see how Hillary does to her. My interest is looking for the voices that call people to radio….
As for the follow-up single, I bet it's "Until You."
You may know more and be more of an insider, but these are my observations: Starting this Monday, when you Google Billy Currington, Like my dog has begun to appear in the search criteria, the week before it was Let Me down easy; also on his twitter feed he was tweeting the lyrics to Like my dog back and forth after thanking everyone for making LMDE #1. Just some thoughts.
Sorry just don’t know how to do those boxes yet.
