A kelly clarkson video doesn't generate enough buzz for it to really matter. Oh believe me, I realize that. I have very low expectations for the video anyway. Still, releasing the video before the song has even gone for adds is ridiculous. It's just not the "proper" way of doing things with a pop act like Kelly. Yeah, I'm not crazy about a lot of the moves RCA has made thus far. The promo was great and Kelly has for the most part has been looking and sounding fantastic. MKIA was a hit, but not the kind that she needs for a lead single. It was just not the right move. Not only that, but the delay between MKIA and WDKY has been jarring to say the least. It should have went for adds the week MKIA hit the top 10 after the album's release, which was exactly when the Toyota commercial began airing. Has they done that, the video release at this point would be completely justified. I agree with all of this. I haven't been the biggest champion of RCA's decisions this era, mainly because of the release of bland, mediocre MKIA. I too wanted them to give up on it long ago and send out WDKY. Letting MKIA linger on the charts hasn't done anything noteworthy in my eyes besides hitting #1 on Hot AC last week, and I doubt it has done much for sales either. I understand why they stayed with MKIA, but I really wish they took the other path. If any of this fucks up WDKY's run, I'll forever be bitter. >:( Before anyone says I'm jumping ship by bashing RCA, I've been absolutely pleased with the promotional end of things so far. They've been very good to Kelly in that respect, which is why I said they've been doing relatively well so far. And like I said above, I've at least understood their decisions so far, but I am getting worried that the rest of the era may suffer from now on.

I don't care about video before radio release. A Kelly video doesn't really do much for her singles AT ALL. They are probably releasing it to create buzz before hand. Maybe they want to see how many people call in and get their radio stations to begin playing before the adds date? As to the comment about not releasing because of the freeze. The freeze is mostly urban legend and myth. It does exist but RCA can release a song any time they want, including during this time of year. Artists do it all the time. Kelly's name is more than enough to keep any single afloat through the freeze if it is half decent, which WDKY is.

Releasing the video is odd, unless they plan on making two? I'd guess they're trying to capitalize on the post-Christmas digital boost for WDKY--like a kick-start for the single.
What did MKIA's video do for MKIA? If the effect was minimal, maybe they think they'll get more out of it by releasing it now and get WDKY awareness up there for the digital boost in a few weeks than they would releasing it during WDKY's run.
I, for one, love MKIA. It obviously didn't pan out perfectly, but I think their not abandoning the single once it was out has proved more positive than negative. If they had dumped it, it never would have got to top 10 on the Hot 100, #1 on Hot AC, or have the opportunity to go top 10 on pop. I know it may not be doing much for the album, but the better MKIA does on radio, the better it sets up WDKY. Flop singles are hard to overcome on radio, and RCA and Kelly have done everything their power to MKIA a hit, which I'd say they've achieved.
Of course, using hindsight vision, I would have released YCW and WDKY as the first two singles, all in 2011.

It won't let me edit my last post. First of all, Kelly is seriously the easiest and funnest person to interview of celebrities that I have seen- No bias ! Thanks for posting the videos, Sober. I feel like such a cheeseball saying this but after viewing the above video, does anyone feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I hear statements that speak to Kelly's current symbiotic relationship with RCA, especially in the video when she states, "This is my fifth record with RCA records.....My favourite part [of the creative process] was Jeff Aldrich, my A&R guy, he's the first guy to google me, youtube me, see what I do live.... invest in me an artist... Working in that kind of environment when someone invests in you makes you want to invest in them. That's what this whole record record- it was just a really great creative working environment". This statements has me re-excited for this era ! Perhaps, Kelly will renegioate her contract with RCA after the next (sixth) record if they the new management sans Clive Davis get along as they have.

I thought I read somewhere (either on here or the KCE) that Jeff Aldrich was phased out of RCA during the label restructuring and no longer works there. After hearing about the genuine passion and effort he put into making this album with Kelly, I really hope she finds a way to keep him around in the future. The way he did things clearly paid off, both for us and for Kelly.
Furthermore, I love how she looks in the Legends and Icons videos. I can't quite describe it, but it's definitely a look I like on her - probably my favorite of the whole era thus far.

I think people tend to over-emphasize the effect videos have.
Sure they can't hurt, but unless they're spectacular or million dollar 'events', they really change the destiny of a song.

Do we know what time the video will be released on December 14 ? I'd like to go to bed before midnight, but I will definitely stay up if there a decent chance of it being out in just over an hour !

I think I'd like to see Kelly on Atlantic after RCA is done. They seem to have a soulful vibe that would mesh well with her. And if Jeff really is gone, that was the most positive she's ever sounded about her label, so I doubt she'd stick around now.

I love that I can tell when something exciting happens in Kelly's life because there are suddenly 3 more pages.
Anyway, really random move. Hmm. Whatever, I'm excited. Maybe they have a plan. Or whatever, I have no clue. I don't pretend to understand what goes on in the minds of people in this industry...

LMFAO SHE IS SO ADORABLE. I can't. It's so silly and giving me rando ~90s vibes for some reason? I actually like how it started with the integration, but there were a few I saw on YouTube that were better than the ones shown (like the Bahamas one)--but I'm glad they got the mermaids!
Really fun. If this was going to be the concept, it's as good as it could have been. Not sure how I'll feel about it after it sinks it, but it just made me smile. And oh yeah, she looks AMAZING.

Easily the cutest video I've seen in a long, long time. I would've appreciated a concept video for this one interspersed with the flash mob scenes (like maybe Kelly fighting with her boyfriend, her sitting alone, and then her dancing at the end), but they really did put the attention on the fans dancing and in the end that's really what counts.
She looked so f*cking hot when she was dancing. I think this is my third favorite Kelly video (behind BOY and BTHE).

Although the video again is pretty cheap, it's quite fun.
I think that's the best I've ever seen Kelly look in a video. Flicking her hair, however is testing it's ground. Although dancing is more than welcome.
In all honestly, RCA haven't done a lot right this era. I don't think her sales could be much worse than they are. Following {four} platinum albums, I think {gold} would of been a realistic target regardless of release efforts. With all the high end promotional performances Kelly has had, I just don't think they have adjusted to the market properly. We saw that with Bionic - {very slow reactions to a flopping single} and Goodbye {poor single choices}. It will be interesting to see how they handle Adam's upcoming era.
Finally the EP. Well it's a good move, however the tracklisting is strange. You Can't Win was the lowest digitally selling single from the album. If they wanted to push the EP, they should of included songs such as Let Me Down & other's still with strong radio play - Because of You / Already Gone. Demand is key people. I don't think RCA manages Supply vs Demand very well at times.
