Goes for (Alternative) adds this week. Not a bad choice, but it's highly unlikely to chart. I guess the label just pushes their songs to commercial radio for general awareness and any positive response in return is a bonus.
"Afraid of Everyone" would've been my pick.

I love this album, just don't see it doing too much on the radio. I love "England" and some other song with a number in it.

"Conversation 16." ("I was afraid I'd eat your brains. 'Cause I'm evil.") That's a really good one, too.

Hmm. This one isn't bad, but it sounds a bit too much of a generic hipster track for most alt. stations to take seriously. Their loss, of course, but it would be nice to see The National on the chart.
The AAA station here has gone insane and in the evenings is now spinning a bunch of random alternative tracks by bands nobody's heard of (including probably half of those Mr. Ziff has recently made topics about or changed repeat titles to) and deeper album tracks. Interestingly enough, they've added both of the cuts mentioned here - "Conversation 16," which would have been my pick & "Afraid of Everyone." As well as "Bloodbuzz Ohio," of course.

And yet, the most played National song at AAA last week was "Anyone's Ghost." Um...OK... ???

Um...OK... ??? 196 49 NATIONAL Anyone's Ghost 47 8 39 0 "Bloodbuzz Ohio" and "Runaway" are my two favorites on the album, but the latter probably wouldn't make a great single. If the choice is narrowed to "Terrible Love" or "Anyone's Ghost," I think "Ghost" would be the better option, but I'd pick just about anything over "Terrible Love."

This now has an official remix. Doesn't make it too much more radio friendly IMO though: ...and it's going to be on the "expanded edition" of High Violet due out on 22 November, with a bonus CD featuring that, a few new recordings and live tracks. All this six months after the original release. The National (and their record company) can go jump off a cliff and DIE.

I wish they had pushed "Mistaken for Strangers" back in 2007. That probably could have gone top 30 with a decent amount of promotion.

"Terrible Love" was a featured track on Out of Order last weekend. It wasn't bad, but it was one of those songs that made me feel like I needed to be wearing skinny jeans to enjoy (That's my new "is it hipster?" criteria for all music).
You guys with the prior The National knowledge really make it seem like this song shouldn't be the song that introduces me (or anyone else) to the band.
