Shocked this hasn't been done yet. Which third album from these two country darlings do you prefer?

Speak Now for her elegant transition alone. Play On is great but it doesn't offer anything as risky as Speak Now.

Have to say, I think Speak Now is pretty clearly the better album on the whole - it shows a lot of artistic growth and development that Play On fails to. I think one of the problems with Play On and maybe Carrie in general is that she tends to be kind of safe with her material - the majority of the stuff on PO could've just as easily been on Some Hearts or Carnival Ride. Although, PO did offer a few steps in different directions, like Quitter...so hopefully she continues with that next era.
I do like Play On a lot and I think it's a great album, but Speak Now has a little more to offer.

I prefer Carrie to Taylor, but I have to give it to "Speak Now" with no hesitation.

I prefer Speak Now right now, mainly because of how new it is. I think in the long run, I will prefer Play On. It's my most played album, anyways.

Play On. I prefer the more Country sound. I really like a few songs on Speak Now, but there are many I don't care about as well, especially the fully pop ones.

Play on by so much! I love that cd. Though I do admit it does have some fillers I don't care for (Unapologize, Look at Me, Change) I was disappointed with speak now. I didn't even buy it... :( I feel like it is full of filler material IMO. I just prefer her old first album material... Speak Now is my least favorite Taylor album. while Play on is my second favorite Carrie album.

Though Play On houses some of Carrie's best material, Speak Now blows it out of the water.

Aside from a couple of tracks (mainly SWISLY and SLT), Play On really isn't that strong an album. The fact that she managed to release the four worst tracks on the album as singles certainly didn't help my view of the whole era either. (Okay, maybe "Mama's Song" isn't that bad, but it's certainly one of her dullest songs yet.)
Speak Now, meanwhile, is a legitimately good album, genre conventions be damned. A little overlong and a little overproduced on some parts maybe, but still, good. It's not even a contest, to be honest.

I love both, but lyric-wise, I have to give it to Speak Now. I love the whole Carrie-persona, her music is more mature than Taylor's, but Carrie really shows no emotion in most of her songs, which makes it harder to connect, at least for me. That's probably due to the fact that most of Carrie's songs are written by others, therefore, she doesn't necessarily feels the same way the song is telling, which is fine, but when you compare it to an artist who is singing from her heart, it falls short. Taylor is still growing up and at times I'm unable to connect with her in this album (i.e. songs like Better Than Revenge, Long Live, Speak Now, Story of Us) but when she is at her best, she truly is at her best. Songs like Last Kiss, Dear John, Back To December, Enchanted take her to another level, especially when you can hear her emotions in most of these, which is something I'm obviously searching for when listening a song. So yes, while Speak Now isn't perfect, songs like Dear John and Last Kiss make up for the boring part of it, whereas in Play On, while most songs are good, you see a product, not someone who has really gone through that, making it harder to connect. That's probably the reason why one of my favorite songs there is Mama's Song, because that truly seems to come from Carrie.

LOL I can't even. Speak Now, by so much. Carrie's best < Taylor's Play On was a great album. The singles weren't a good representation of the album, the best songs are doomed to be album tracks. Speak Now is just....pure .

I haven't even fully listened to 'Speak Now' yet, but it's obviously >>>> Play On, which was not a good album by any means. Carrie hasn't really put out a solid album yet, though I feel she has the potential to. Carrie>>>>>>>>>>>> Taylor overall, though.

I loved 'Play On' when it first debuted, but it burned on me quickly and I rarely listen to it any more. I don't know how 'Speak Now' will fare for me since it's themes are far less interesting to me than those of 'Play On'. I long for a highly personal album that Carrie has written more on that seems less manufactured and "commercial", because each album that had effect, IMO. Taylor's album is obviously MUCH more personal and more of a product of an artist than that of Carrie's latest, so... For me at this time, I am voting for 'Speak Now'.

Play On is a classic album that I enjoy a year after it's release and will for many years to come. Temporary Home in itself is beautifully written and delivers a powerful message to me. The vocals that Carrie delievers both in the studio and live are undeniably stellar.
Speak Now is merely the diary of a 20 year olds personal problems with boys. The Kiss and Tell approach holds no interest to me. Releasing material that you believe is giving you the last word and attempting to publicly humiliate others is offensive to me. Vocally, Taylor has been studio perfected to the best that can be done with her weak limited vocal range, her live performances are....well for me painful to witness.
My vote is for Play On.

Though it seems like we are in the minority. The whole world is mesmerized by this girl for some reason... I find her talented, and she can write, but she kinda gets on my nerves when I can't turn on the TV or radio without hearing about her...

Every Taylor song is more or less about the same thing. She sounds more mature on her debut album, than she does on Fearless or Speak Now (based on what I've heard from these albums).
I do agree, that I would like to see Carrie write more for her next album and get more personal, but her album is still the better one and she is still the better artist. Her vocals blow Taylor's out of the water, and her music is more fun to listen to. And her ballads are very touching, unlike Taylor's.

Speak Now is merely the diary of a 20 year olds personal problems with boys. Songs dealing with personal problems with said boys: Back To December,Dear John,The Story Of Us,Haunted,Last Kiss. That's 5 out of 14 tracks on the album Speak Now.
Songs dealing with boy problems on Play On: Cowboy Casanova,Undo It,Someday When I Stop Loving You,Songs Like This,What Can I Say That's 5 out of 13 tracks on Play On.I see that you have a problem with selective memory.

No problem with my memory. I never recall Carrie saying that her songs have been written about her life. nonetheless the "experiences" of the last two years of her life. :o On the other hand I have heard Taylor make reference where her material comes from. Yep, Taylor is a Kiss and Tell kinda gal!

No problem with my memory. I never recall Carrie saying that her songs have been written about her life. nonetheless the "experiences" of the last two years of her life. :o On the other hand I have heard Taylor make reference where her material comes from. Yep, Taylor is a Kiss and Tell kinda gal! I don't see how that can really be helped. A lot of people who write their own music draw from personal experiences. That's what makes someone's music personal. Plenty of people have also made references to their songs. Taylor saying that this song is about a person who did so-and-so to me is something plenty of artists have done. Even if they never explicitly say who the song, the lyrics often give away. For example, Britney never said Everytime was about Justin Timberlake. In fact, when asked about it, all she said that she would let the song speak for itself but most people know it's about Justin. Even if Taylor didn't drop hints about who her songs were about, anyone who follows her personal life could probably figure out what song was about who. Anyways, I choose Speak Now. I was surprised at how good it was. I like every track on this album and some tracks are easily some of my favorite Taylor songs ever. Even though her songs are about specific people, a lot of the subject matter is really relatable. Her songs have a way of really capturing how people felt in a particular situation. Play On is good too, but while it has some great highlights, it doesn't really compare to Speak Now.
