She’s just married English comedian Russell Brand and while honeymooning Katy Perry sets a new record for joining the Five #1 Singles Club. Firework, the fourth hit culled from former #1 album Teenage Dream, ascends the summit giving Perry her fifth #1 hit here. It’s a feat she’s completed in a short two years, three months and three days, bettering previous holder Chris Brown’s two years four months two weeks and three days. It’s also the fourth time Perry’s been on top in 2010. The last time any performer amassed four #1s in a calendar year was Akon back in 2007. Perry now moves into fifth-equal placing as most-capped Singles act here. It’s a very crowded spot on the latter alongside Madonna, UB40, Rihanna, Chris Brown and the Black Eyed Peas. Mariah Carey remains most-capped female artist of all-time in New Zealand with seven #1 songs. Tellingly, Katy Perry can also claim a 50 per cent #1 hit rate, as exactly half of her 10 chart hits in New Zealand have gone on to the top spot. Her previous #1 efforts were I Kissed A Girl in 2008, If We Ever Meet Again (with Timbaland), California Gurls (with Snoop Dogg) and Teenage Dream, all in 2010.
