Here are my calculated year end standings for the Billboard pop chart. It should be 100% accurate (barring any unforseen typgraphical errors). Billboard's year end charts only count spins for weeks that a song was in the top 40. The 2010 chart year began with the issue dated December 5, 2009 and ended with the November 27, 2010 issue. Billboard should have all their year end charts available on Billboard.biz some time in the next couple of weeks.

Amazing #1; although it was fairly obvious TiK ToK would get that. I'm glad for Ke$ha though, she's proved this was a deserved number one by not being a one-hit wonder since then. Hopefully she does just as well in the future!

Airplanes @ #2 is surprisingly...appropriate. Really that song just loves collecting #2s. Good for B.o.B. and Haley though, I'm happy it managed to outdo Nothin' On You here.

Dynamite barely missing the #3 slot to be blocked by Bad Romance by less than 200 spins is painful. However congrats to Lady Gaga showing she has a lot of staying power. Taio isn't as good of an artist, but I do believe Dynamite is one of the strongest efforts this year, moreso than Bad Romance.

Katy Perry clocking in at #5 with California Gurls, which is kind of funny considering it was ALWAYS ahead of a Airplanes during its chart life, going recurrent the same week as Airplanes I believe. However Airplanes just had stronger recurrent spins than California Gurls (which makes since considering Katy's follow-ups singles exploded while Magic was never ever receiving more spins than Airplanes).

Strong effort by In My Head at #6, good to see Jason could hold on well with that song. Except not really...had you asked me a few months ago, I would have said Jason was going to end up at #2 this year; but recently the recurrency of this song just dropped.

Taio is the first artist we see twice on the list, which is actually pretty surprising to me. I wouldn't have expected him to be. Regardless Break Your Heart did amazing and definitely earned the Hot 100 peak it got instead of just being a first week digital monster and then flopping on radio.

Blast from the past Enrique comes in with I Like It, glad to see him make the top 10 after being gone for what feels like forever.

Turns out Rihannas best effort is Love The Way You Lie, not Rude Boy, but a least she and Eminem managed to make the top 10 with this song.

I honestly don't know why Big Sean is credited on Cooler Than Me. The official radio edit did not include him (the main edit was the 'single mix') and the only station I ever heard play his version was an unmointored CHR. I guess enough CHRs spun his version though for him to get credit. Not thrilled about this being top 10, it just burnt out too quickly to deserve it for me.

Sad to see Lady Gaga barely miss having two top 10s as Telephone earns a #11 position.

I feel sorry for Hey, Soul Sister which really would have been a top 10 hit for Train had Rhythmic CHRs like KAMP and KIIS not completely avoided it like the plague.

Ke$ha is the 3rd artist we see a second track from, glad to see her with another massive track!

And the song that she barely blocked from getting that CHR #1 OMG is right below her! Poor Usher, forever the #2-King of Pop.

We see Teenage Dream make the top 15, meaning Katy Perry is one of 4 to have 2 top 15 hits this year.

Good effort from Sexy Chick considering it kind of sat at #3/4 for forever.

We see both Usher and Pitbull for the 2nd time...and it turns out this is a 2nd song for both of them to peak at #2 on CHR this year. How fitting.

We see B.o.B. for a second time with Nothin' On You, really surprising this managed to make the top 20 considering it got awful recurrent play. This also begins a little Bruno Mars streak as Billionaire is next and Just The Way You Are rounds out the Top 20.

Breakeven barely misses the top 20 by eight spins another song that could have gotten further had it gotten embraced a little more by the Rhythmic stations on the panel.

Rude Boy was massive and then sort of died...not even able to hit the top 20 (and not even within 5,000 spins of it)!

Amazing effort from Lady Antebellum making the top 25 on CHR for a country band with Need You Now.

Lady Gaga is the first lead artist we see appear three times, managing to get a top 25 hit with Alejandro! However, Bruno is the first artist we say thrice if you include features.

Imma Be is the highest BEP single this year, a bit of a meh follow up to last year's domination.

Orianthi's probably got herself a one-hit wonder top 40 with According to You.

Jason manages to tack on two more top 30 hits with Whatcha Say and Ridin Solo. Surprising for Ridin Solo which hit #5 on CHR for an impressive 1-day-only (passing California Gurls on a Saturday update and then being passed by Teenage Dream on the Sunday update).

The mighty Timberlake manages to salvage Timbaland's flop era by getting him a top 30 hit with Carry Out.

Rounding out the rest of the top 40 are a few probably one-hit wonders with Bulletproof, Fireflies, and that one awesome song by Nelly that made you think he might actually be making a comeback until you heard his second single. We see Ke$ha yet again with Take It Off. Empire State Of Mind manages to make the Top 40 despite peaking in January. Even more amazingly recurrent is Britney's 3 which peaked in November of last year! While the rest of the world accepted Flo's latest, Club Can't Handle Me struggled to make the Top 40 this year. Do You Remember and Two Is Better Than One are the randoms that really didn't make much of an lasting impact that still managed to break the top 40.

When looking at the rest of the top 50, you notice some funny things. OneRepublic manages to sneak in two hits with All The Right Moves and Secrets while Idol runner-up Adam Lambert manages to best winner Kris Allen with Whataya Want From Me being a single spot above Live Like We're Dying.

50-100 isn't too exciting. Filled with recurrents from forever ago (like Already Gone/Sweet Dreams), songs still charting well (Raise Your Glass/Animal), songs that never got adds dates (Magic), minor rock hits that Rhythmic-leaning CHRs wouldn't touch (If You Only Knew), minor rhythmic hits that Rock-leaning CHRs wouldn't touch (Forever/Tie Me Down), minor pop hits that neither Rock-leaning CHRs or Rhythmic-CHRs would touch [because I mean why would you add a pure pop song on CHR] (If We Ever Meet Again), the Justin Bieber effect (Baby/Somebody to Love), and radio flops that stations spun because they weren't actually listening to what they were playing and just took what was fed to them (Blah Blah Blah/Can't Be Tamed/Fifteen).

When looking at "The Rest" it's pretty much the same thing as #50-100 except more exaggerated! You know, like another three Justin Bieber songs, a couple of drown-your-sorrows-in-food songs from your favs like All I Ever Wanted and Not Myself Tonight (don't worry, Rockstar 101 couldn't even make this!), and random songs the average person won't remember by some band they won't believe got a minor CHR hit (You Look Better When I'm Drunk/So Obvious/I'm Awesome).

Top 20 Artists is solid. Ke$ha snatches wigs with #1 here, while Gaga is blocked at #2. Good showings from Rihanna, Bruno, DeRulo, B.o.B., and Katy Perry as well. Despite being the only artist with two top 10 hits this year, Cruz is only the #8 artist. Pitbull manages to make the top 10 from his massive featured hits. The rest of the 20 isn't particually exciting, especially when you see names like Ludacris, Iyaz, and Hayley Williams made it.

Thanks for compiling. Good chart, but I prefer the Mediabase published one as (a) it uses Jan 1 to Dec 31 chart year and (b) it accounts for all spins any time during the year, not just when in the top 40 or in current status.

Actually, Mediabases's official year end charts use the November-to-December chart year as well. I, too, prefer the Mediabase chart for the other reasons you mentioned. The fact that Billboard only counts play for weeks on the chart makes this year ender much easier to compile.

Ahh...right. You're talking about the YTD standings from All Access. Yes, those go from January to December. I'm talking about the actual published year end charts. Here are the '09 charts:

That screenshot I posted is of the year-end chart spreadsheet from mediabase.com, downloaded about four-five months ago. Does it say in that PDF that the chart year is Dec-Nov? (My internet is at a terrible speed for today & tomorrow, that it would take about 20 minutes to download, so I'm not trying.) Do you want more of the MB chart I posted?

No the PDF doesn't give a date range for the chart year. The PDFs are, always, released by the second week of December which tells me the year wrapped up by the end of November. That, and I have always tallied up the Mediabase spins for the chart year using the December-November time frame (much like how I did the BDS numbers for this thread) and the resulting chart is, more or less, in line with what's published in the PDFs (and, for anyone about the ask, I'm almost finished tallying up my Mediabase year end approximations. I should have it posted over the weekend.).

Your spreadsheet is the YTD rolling chart, as is available on All Access. It runs January through December and resets at the new year. The PDFs are the published year end standings and reflect the December through November chart year.

Personally, I have always gone with the PDFs as the "official" rankings. Some people prefer the calendar year. Your mileage may vary.

I'm 100% for Jan 1 to Dec 31, as it reflects the true year. In the PDF, "Just Dance" is #2 - in the spreadsheet it's #8 - so there is quite a difference.

I'm just wondering though, why are the official Mediabase PDF's and official Mediabase spreadsheets different? What I have in the spreadsheet is what loads up on the site (the part that you need an account) if you go somewhere in the archived reports section, I believe, so that should be official, right?
