This was a slow-burning hit in 1978. The song was over 6 minutes long (They played the whole thing on AT40's year end countdown.) It peaked at number 19 and ranked at number 100 for the year. Good song!

"Learn to work the saxophone; I, I'll play just what I feel. Drink Scotch whiskey all night long and die behind the wheel. They got a name for the winners of the world; I want a name when I lose. They call Alabama the Crimson Tide; call me Deacon Blues."
Still a favorite lyrical passage of mine. This one rivals "My Old School" as my top Steely Dan song. Love both.

Steely Dan never fails, definitely one of my favorite songs from them. Donald Fagan's vocals always add something different to the table, so wonderfully distinct. It's somewhere in my top 5-10 of Steely Dan songs, so great.

I think this is when Steely Dan were in their prime. I know some die hards at the time hankered after the more guitar based stuff of their earlier work but the album this came from would be in my Top 10 of all time. And this song is my 2nd favourite from the album (my favourite would be the title track, not least due to the amazing drumming of Mr Gadd)
