It'd be great if he went home emptyhanded.

It'd be great if he went home emptyhanded. Why? Eminem is annoying but at least he has and always had a POV and something to say. His comeback caught a lot of people off guard and he deserves it after that disaster that was Relapse

It's not that Beyonce doesn't deserve the recognition- she does. It's similar to Janet Jackson getting the inaugural MTV Icon award- she had an album out around that time. She was deserving of the recognition, but it was apparent that MTV regarded acts like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, etc. as "existing" MTV Icons (as evidenced in the opening credits for that first Icon show). That show was great promo for Janet and the All For You album. True, but HG out of all the newbies(not the Madonna/Janet/MJ/Mariah's ect...Who do you think deserves an award like this mixing consistency, singles, albums, awards, media presence, and star power? Em & Brit are the only other two who would be in the lane, but Britney's Billboard facts(single wise)was weak during the 2000's(for whatever reasons) And Em took breaks and it wasn't until his two new era's did her really start racking up #1 hits.

Pat (lead singer) from Train just confirmed the opening performance is indeed Britney and Rihanna. And that right after it, he will be involved in a special performance (not sure if it is a video skit or live) with Nicki Minaj and Ken (the host)

Eminem deserves it before Beyonce. But Eminem is not even going to be at the awards tonight. I doubt they would award it to somebody not in attendance. I'm thinking that in the next year or so Em, Brit, Usher, and Jayz will be the next slew of artist that will get it. I look at it this way: they have more opportunity to make more #1 albums, more#1 songs and add to more of their already established billboard accomplishments. it's a win win. Beyonce will benefit greatly with promo...the other 4 listed above will have more time to get it.

Fair enough...but you do realize that this is not the relevancy awards....It's billboard. Em, Brit and Usher have achieved multiple Billboard awards/records/accolades that Bey hasn't. They shouldn't be discounted because they decided to take a break from media saturation and overexposure and Beyonce did not. Beyonce got female artist of the decade awarded by Billboard, so that leaves Britney out. SO really it was between Bey, Nelly(lol), EMinem, or Usher. All 3(not inlcuding Nelly)deserve a award, but like people say Beyonce has gone non-stop all decade, she deserves it :) Beyonce received female artist of the decade for sales and airplay. Not for achieving the highest sales, the highest airplay, or achieving the most records/achievement. Airplay and being a multi format artist (pop/rhythmic/urban/urban ac/hot ac) really helped. You also have to keep in mind that Em's first album wasn't added but he was still #1, Britney's album going 14x platinum (25M WW) and having a couple of her big radio hits was not included in the stats as it was included in the stats for the 90s. But whatever, as stated, It will be great for Bey to get it now. timing is perfect. And when Em, Brit, Usher, Jay get there's they have time to add to their billboard accolades. Win-win.

They shouldn't be discounted because they decided to take a break from media saturation and overexposure and Beyonce did not. It is harder to be consistent, there are A LOT of people who have had glorious highlights in their careers, but very few of them could keep it consistent. Good point but you also have to keep in mind they are honoring her for Beyonce the artist and DC3 the group. So when an artist is doing solo records and then doing group records it's easier to be more consistent because they are different brands. It's a smart marketing technique where an artist can be overexposed and saturate the media but also reinvent themselves a bit. I wish Fergie and Gwen stefani would do this. 2000-2002 DC3 2003-2004 Beyonce 2004-2005 DC3 2006-2010 Beyonce It would be harder for her to garner all the combined (solo & group) achievement as a solo artist. There are a few that have: again they will get theirs in the future.

All everyone is talking about on the red carpet is Britney. Neyo, Fergie, Train, Taio Cruz, OneRepublic all said they're excited to see her. Britney ily, but I'll be pressed if you steals headlines just from doing a minute of S&M.

Haters are SOOOO pressed. @ uglynumber2, did you know they are honoring her for her entire career, including her days with Destiny's Child which by the way is the bestselling girl group ever? So, what's her number of Top 10s in that 10 year span if you add DC hits?? Oh, I see. Billboard knows better. STAY MAD while she racks up more awards than your fave could ever dream about. @ MickeCheck12: Honorary awards are created all the time. It's nothing new nor surprising, and it certainly doesn't diminish its value. I'm sure you wouldn't be saying any of that if your fave was the recipient. Oh, and by the way, the World Music Millennium Award was also created for MJ and MC. So what? You can also STAY MAD. Of course, MJ and MC were given the Millenium Award because they were the biggest selling artists of that millenium. It's laughable that you have the nerve to compare her to them. She hasn't even sold 10% of what they sold. GTFOH with that crap. Not even close. The Beatles and Elvis have sold far more albums then either MJ or MC. If we're talking about the last millenium.

What you are saying about accomplishments are true but, again, it is not a consistency award, It is a billboard award. This deals with sales, airplay, as well as record breaking achievements and accolades not with the fact that an artist saturates the media all of the time. Star power is subjective, statistics are not. Well, it's spilled milk at this point... I'll say this: although I think based on those stats alone Em should get it next year, Britney the year following, Usher and then Jayz...I'm not sure about Alicia, Nickelback or Nelly (who seems to already have shown irrelevance) ...anyone of the 90s/00s generation that gets it before them...shame on Billboard if they do that again.
