For some reason, sometimes it takes awhile for them to remove all recurrents.

Yeah, this is week 51 for "This One's For The Girl's", which means Alicia Keys would have moved back up to #15 and not gone recurrent.

Well, I think the 50/5 recurrent rule overrides the 20/15 rule. A similar thing happened late last year with "Here Without You" by 3 Doors Down. That song went recurrent, but then it was pulled back onto the chart by the removal of a song going recurrent via the 50/5 rule (I believe the song was "First Cut Is The Deepest"). So I have a feeling that they'll get rid of the Martina McBride song and bring back Alicia Keys.

They changed the rule from 50/10 after Uncle Kracker flat out refused to leave the Top Ten on the AC chart with his tired, overplayed remake of "Drift Away". I sure hope they don't move the bar up any higher, because the Top Five songs should be ranked as they actually are, regardless of how many weeks they've been on. Frankly, I think the Top Ten should be like that, but I guess I can see why they decided to tighten the rules a little.

Well, as of this morning they removed Martina McBride... but they didn't allow Alicia Keys to return! Ugh... well, hopefully R&R gets it right.

Technically, Alicia Keys shouldn't be allowed to return. One recurrent rule shouldn't prevail over the other. But at the same time, I wouldn't mind if she did return to the chart because the song may not have even peaked yet.

I'm almost positive it DID happen on the Hot AC chart though...

Well, "Here Without You", which would have gone recurrent back in November under the 20/15 rule, was brought back when they realized they hadn't removed "First Cut Is The Deepest" (or whatever), which was dropped under the 50/5 rule.

Actually, didn't this happen on the AC chart recently with Here Without You? It has happened a couple times before, but I don't think it's supposed to happen. Even if they do bring Alicia back this week, it looks like she'd be gone next week anyway.

I think they use their own discretion in situations like this. "Discretion" is the bane of chart fans everywhere. I'm sure we would all love hard and fast rules instead.

Yeah, but there are exceptions to every rule and situations like this are the exceptions. Apparently, they felt that "Here Without You" still had some life left in it, whereas "If I Ain't Got You" was pretty much done anyway (it wasn't on the "AC chart sans recurrent rules" list the next week, so it was apparently below number fifteen.
