To be honest, I've only heard her singles, which is what most people would judge anyone on when it comes to anything, lyrics, vocals, etc. Those are the songs that will most represent any artist. The singles, but moreso, the hits. The only person I can think of offhand that would have less variety amongst the songs would be Celine Dion and how literally every song she ever sings is about love. Kind of superficial approach. Based on what you have posted in this thread, you really can`t say she is not a great songwriter. All that we have managed to find out is that it only takes listening singles for you to judge the overall quality of an artist/record. But if this is how you roll...fine. You did say it is your opinion, and it is not up to me, how you form those opinions. Peace. To be blunt; Taylor Swift is not a great songwriter in the grand scheme of things. I don't know where the hype's come from, but I could name so many other artists, past and present, who are better writers than her. If one was to compile a list of the great songwriters, she wouldn't even be in the longlist.

If they're going to market her as the songwriter she is, one would think that the best songs she's written would be the ones they would use to represent her as a songwriter.

Of course they are gonna put out singles that can relate to her main demographic of younger fans. If you listen to songs like "Last Kiss" and "Dear John" you can`t really say she does not show the signs of an incredible songwriter. I would compare her to young Bob Dylan/The Beatles (who received similar critics in their young age as Taylor does now). That comparison is not that far-fetched as you would think...only time will tell.

LOL...i saw that coming. Were they writing some kind of masterpieces in their early time? Bob Dylan wrote "Blood On The Tracks" when he was 34. All that i am saying is that if she continues to mature (the way she has transformed from "Fearless" to "Speak Now") she has enough skills to pull off that kind of album in the future. You can have your skepticism, i can have my optimism.

Bob Dylan may have written Blood On The Tracks at 34, but he also wrote "The Times They Are A-Changin'" and "Blowin' In The Wind" at the age Taylor is now. I like Taylor, but... no.

The teen girls like him because he is the dictionary definition of teen heartthrob.
People in the industry like him because he's a walking bag of money.
Everyone else likes him because the above two sentences make him a huge star.
