You guys act like the Grammy has always snubbed Britney Spears.
For the record, Britney has always received a nomination for EVERY ERA she had, except for Blackout.
Baby One More Time - Baby One More Time (Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Vocal) Oops! I Did It Again - Oops! I Did It Again (Best Female Pop Vocal, Best Pop Vocal Album) Britney - Overprotected (Best Female Pop Vocal, Best Pop Vocal Album) In The Zone - Toxic (Best Dance Recording) Circus - Womanizer (Best Dance Recording)
Five eras out of six.
Femme Fatale is being considered her best era, music wise.

That'll be 9 years when the next award show comes. Especially now with the pop field tightened, I don't think she'll have too much luck. I think Dance Recording and Dance/Electronic Album are good chances though I doubt she'll win either (they'd be dumb to submit FF to Pop Album).

I'm just not buying this Kanye West is 100% for sure in AOTY. I think his chances get lower and lower with each passing day. Back in November, I thought he would most likely get it, but now, not so much.
He has a shot, yes, but Lil' Wayne is going to be a huge contender. Trust me, Wayne will have huge critical acclaim/sales with this album. It is EXTREMELY anticipated. Even off of his throwaway EPs and releases he did while in jail, they sold extremely well. One release is like 650,000 and the other is like 700,000+...so a full length studio album is going to go crazy. His tour has been massive the past few weeks as well playing in stadiums for 10,000+ every night. I don't know if he will be able to do 1 million in the first week, but I honestly am not ruling it out.
Right now, it is not clear who will take the "Rap" spot in AOTY. Lil' Wayne stands a fantastic chance. Plus, we still have 12+ weeks of releases before cut off. Who knows what could be released in that time.

To that point, it could be Watch The Throne (the Jay-Z + Kanye West project) if it's released in time. I totally agree Wayne could give MBDTF a run for its money.
Without having heard Tha Carter IV though, I have to say, MBDTF needs to get nominated...it's too good to be snubbed.
Also, in 2003, Eminem & Nelly both got nominated for Album of the Year. It's rare for NARAS to nominate 2 rap albums but it's not impossible, especially when dealing with heavyweights like Kanye & Lil' Wayne.

I'll wait until I hear Lil' Wayne's new album, but yeah, as of this moment, Kanye would probably take the Rap spot. I don't think they would both get a spot. They are too similar. Eminem and Nelly are essentially different genres. They both are under the "rap" field but Nelly was/is a pop artist and Eminem is a rapper. Nelly has had way more success on the charts in terms of singles than Eminem,

Shame the Blackout ERA wasn't nominated. thats stilll her best Album. They sent Gimme More for Female Pop Vocal, and no Piece of Me anywhere. It was more of a fail on Jive's side than the Grammy's.

Fleet Foxes could easily be a surprise AOTY Nominees.
Helplessness Blues has gotten excellent reviews.
Only mixed review is by NME and i wouldn't even classify it as a review more a bitter rant.

Yeah, I won't be surprised if Helplessness Blues is on critics year-end lists like The Suburbs last year and/or wins Best Alternative Music Album. I'd much prefer it to be nominated for AOTY than rock big-names Radiohead, Strokes and Foo Fighters. Perhaps they'll submit for Best New Artist? Fleet Foxes vs. Bruno Mars vs. Nicki Minaj would be intense!
ALBUM: 21, Helplessness Blues, Born This Way, Speak Now, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy RECORD/SONG: Rolling In The Deep, Grenade, The Cave, Firework, All Of The Lights

At this point, I would just like nominations...wins at this point for Brit are very slim in likelihood. Would be good if FF album was nominated for Pop vocal album HIAM was nominated in dance categories and female pop vocal. 3-4 noms would be great.

SO BNA will hopefully feature some fresh Faces. Early Contenders: BNA: Nicki Minaj, Fleet Foxes, Jessie J, James Blake, The Civil Wars, Wiz Khalifa, Miguel AOTY: Adele, Kanye, Fleet Foxes, Lady GaGa, Beyonce, Bad Meets Evil (Eminem & royce da 5'9) ROTY/SOTY: Firework, All of the LIghts, The Cave, Rolling in the Deep, E.T, Unreleased Beyonce Ballad, Judas, Grenade

why do people consider kanye's last album an AOTY contender. It didn't performed as well its previous albums ( even though, charts shouldnt play a factor in grammys). I think Rihanna is goint to nab an AOTY spot similar to Katy Perry last year.

I actually think Rihanna's AOTY Grammy chances rest on the ballad CKB's success. If she launches a re-release I think she'd be a frontrunner for one of the 5 slots.

I think Rihanna is goint to nab an AOTY spot similar to Katy Perry last year. It was (by a loooooooong-shot) the best reviewed album of 2010/the eligibility period, garnering universal adoration. And Kanye's been nominated for AOTY 3 times before.

album of the year early nom? early reviews frm wikipedia
Early critical reaction to Born This Way has been highly positive. Dan Martin of NME gave Born This Way a positive review, saying, "Gaga doesn't know when to hold back - and it's a damn good thing." The sound, according to the Martin was a departure from her last two albums and was a reflection of Gaga's fanbase. "As if Gaga, having already (in her own head at least) fused herself with her fanbase to create a singular entity, she wants to weld physically to her synthesisers as if to create one all-powerful dreadnought of self-empowerment. For the most part this is one relentless torrent of heavy-metal-rave-pop. At the very least it’s a triumph in sound engineering." The hype and Gaga's boundary-pushing preceding the album was criticized, but the album "passed... with flying colors" pushing musical boundaries to its "ultimate degree."[20] Bill Lamb at About.com also gave a highly positive review, giving Born This Way a 5/5 and stating "She brazenly welds disco to metal guitars embracing all of her musical influences in a mad clash of styles that works more often than not." and concluding that "Born This Way begins and ends with near perfection."[24] Slant Magazine gave a positive review of Born This Way, stating "There's nothing small about this album, and Gaga sings the shit out of every single track. In many ways, Born This Way is akin to the Killers' sophomore effort, Sam's Town: bloated, self-important, proudly American, an exercise in extraordinary excess." and concluding with the sentiment "She's indeed on the edge of glory—that is, she isn't quite there yet, but it's fun, if infuriating at times, to watch her try so devotedly." [25]

Is Adele unbeatable in her 5 main categories? AOTY, ROTY, SOTY, Pop Vocal Perf, Pop Album.
Main AOTY contenders look like Adele, Lil Wayne, Coldplay (being released in time?), Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Elton John/Leon Russell, Alison Krauss.
2nd rate looks like Beyonce, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Fleet Foxes, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, Raphael Saadiq, The Civil Wars (if hype really swells)

I could see Adele losing just one category, Album of the Year. She has stiff competition from Kanye and Elton/Leon. It's never a good idea to count out the Grammy queen Alison Krauss either.
