I've been seeing Britney Spears called as a potential nominee for the general field several times already. Not trying to throw shade on her, but come on. Dance Song nominee at best.

Kanye, Taylor and Adele will clearly be the top nominees as their albums were critically acclaimed and had commercial success as well. It would be hypocritical of the Grammys to not nominate one of these artists.

As hard as it may be for you to believe but she actually is a contender for multiple nominations at next years Grammys. Her name has been mentioned lots of times over at GoldDerby, the Award show online universe. goldderbyforums.latimes.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/3226059864

Britney has never been a Grammy darling so why would FF change that?

On The Floor has a good shot at winning Best Dance Recording if it's submitted later this year.

I don't see her in any categories this year except Dance song/pop vocal album and even then I think Adele, Gaga, Beyonce and Rihanna will be the female leads in that. I see the I wanna go/Big fat bass or Hold it against me as nominees. This all depends on which one Jive submits but until she pulls out an introspective record (which I know she can do and will have to do at some point), I expect Toxic to be her only grammy win.

So...what do you think of the chances of nicki minaj winning best new artist. I think she is a shoe in for a nominee...would love for her to win. She better release Fly in May and Save me late summer (before cutoff date) Nominees: Moment for life rap category Superbass/Did it on em will not be nominated. I love them but Fly...will increase her chances of winning. rap/sung category possibly pop category Save me possibly in r&b category unless they wait to release it in the fall and it will miss the cutoff date.

Bruno Mars is definitely in the lead for Best New Artist unless his win this year disqualifies him.
Album of the Year 21, Adele Wasting Light, Foo Fighters Born This Way, Lady Gaga Speak Now, Taylor Swift My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West Other contenders - Beyonce, Cee Lo Green, Lil' Wayne, Bruno Mars, Radiohead
Record/Song of the Year (contenders so far for both) Rolling In The Deep, Adele Judas, Lady Gaga (though possibly a future single could become her main focus) Grenade, Bruno Mars The Cave, Mumford & Sons Firework, Katy Perry All Of The Lights/Runaway, Kanye West
Best Rap Album Watch The Throne, Jay-Z & Kanye West Man On The Moon 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager, Kid Cudi Tha Carter IV, Lil' Wayne Lasers, Lupe Fiasco My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West
Lil' Wayne vs. Kanye West...I highly doubt TC4 will be as successful as TC3 or that it'll get reviews like Kanye's album. But momentum may be on his side as Fantasy will already be 6 months old by TC4's release. MBDTF losing Best Rap Album would be one of my biggest personal upsets ever.

I defintely think Firework, Rolling in the Deep, and All of the Lights are potential nominees for ROTY. I feel like I'm the only one thinking that Britney is going to get an AOTY nomination.

Right now I'd say that's accurate for ROTY. They're definitely on the short list. I think "Rolling in the Deep" is a shoe-in to get Record and Song of the Year at this point. Just pencil Adele for ROTY, SOTY, AOTY, Pop performance and Pop album nominations now. Don't know if she'll win them all, but she's going to be nominated for them all. I think for Britney to have a shot at all at her first GF nom, she needs to have a monster hit single. Right now, she hasn't had that multiple-week #1 song like Katy Perry had (with two songs) leading up to the nominations. Given that Britney has never been nominated in the GF before, I wouldn't expect it to change now. With Katy Perry last year, we only had her debut album to judge how the Grammys may treat her. With Britney, there's a much larger sample size. Plus, with Kanye, Foo Fighters, Taylor, Adele, Gaga and Bruno Mars all in the mix (all previous Grammy winners and nominees in the General Field) with big songs and big albums -- not to mention Beyonce's soon-to-be-released album -- the GF is going to be crowded this year.

The Grammys can be really tricky though. Previous "Grammy Darlings" are now being almost completely shut out: XTina, Kelly Clarkson, Whitney Huston, Sade, U2, etc. Right now I see AOTY looking like this Adele Beyonce Kanye West Lady Gaga Rihanna

Sorry about the double post, but ROTY is looking like this, for me personally: Rolling In The Deep - Adele All Of The Lights - Kanye West Firework - Katy Perry Price Tag - Jessie J feat. B.o.B. Born This Way - Lady Gaga
Best New Artist Jessie J Luke Bryan Nicki Minaj Wiz Khalifa ...idk

It seems people aren't taking into account country, rock and other genres with their predictions. Not to mention the likely possibility of post-May qualifications.

It seems people aren't taking into account country, rock and other genres with their predictions. Not to mention the likely possibility of post-May qualifications. Seriously. Right now the only shoe-ins for nominations are Kanye West and Adele. Both critically acclaimed, commercially successful, and undeniably perfect records. Taylor Swift has a big shot at a nomination, unless another country album blows up between now and September. There will definitely be one country album in the field, though. It's too massive of a genre to ignore. Lady GaGa and BeyoncΓ© both have decent shots as well. One of them will definitely get a nomination. Seeing as both albums will be very electronic/pop driven, there is a very small chance that they will BOTH nab nominations. GaGa is 2/2 in the category, while BeyoncΓ© is 1/3. However, BeyoncΓ© seems to have more industry respect (and continues to gain it) whereas GaGa may have peaked. Many see her as a gimmick. We shall see. Radiohead also shouldn't be overlooked, seeing as indie favorite Arcade Fire won this year. And many are throwing the Foo Fighters' name out there. I haven't heard the album personally, but it wouldn't surprise me, as rock/alternative/indie will have to show up somewhere in the mix.

I don't think he has. his album isn't one filled with the normal "radio hits" they usually have.

"All Of The Lights" is bigger than the CHR chart makes it seem. It has universal acclaim and went Top 3 at Urban and may be #3 on Rhythmic this week. It just hit the top 40 on CHR/Pop.
MBDTF being left out of AOTY would be a HUGE mistake. Then again, we'll see how good his upcoming summer (?) release is. :)
Every day, Adele's frontrunner status for the general categories gets clearer and clearer! 150k this week and "Rolling In The Deep" is almost Top 10 on CHR/Pop.
IMO, the only possibilities to win Album of the Year are Adele, Kanye West and Lady Gaga. Adele clearly is in front due to ridiculous sales, general respect & acclaim, etc. The jury will be out on Gaga til BTW comes out but it could be awesome. Kanye could win based on his album being the best - it's what gave Arcade Fire the win over the easily-presumed-frontrunner Eminem. While Taylor, Bruno, Cee Lo, Foo Fighters, etc may be nominated, I see no scenario in which one of them wins.

Elton John and Leon Russell - The Union. Be on the lookout. I'll give you that. A definite possibility. I think the only reason they and other veteran artists aren't coming up in discussion is the lack of veterans the last 2 years. AOTY hasn't had a Ray Charles/Herbie Hancock nominee since Plant/Krauss won. Sade seemed like such an easy lock and she got shut out. The Union has a lot going for it but a) is NARAS more concerned with being young/hip? and b) was it released too early? It's ok for Bruno, Kanye, Nicki & Taylor to release their material in the fall because they'll go out and promote 3-4+ singles deep but any hype for John/Russell was felt at the album's release and none since. It's a Grammy-type album so it may find a resurgence in April but I'd say its chances of winning aren't so great.

An AOTY win for Kanye would signal more so that he's forgiven than that he put out a stellar CD.
And Britney was a GF nominee once, for Best New Artist which she of course lost to Xtina.

I want the VMA nominations to come out. I know its not going to be until late July but they usually help decifer what we can expect from the Grammys. Look at the 2007 VOTY nominations: Rihanna (featuring Jay-Z) β "Umbrella" BeyoncΓ© β "Irreplaceable" Justice β "D.A.N.C.E." Justin Timberlake β "What Goes Around.../...Comes Around" Kanye West β "Stronger" Amy Winehouse β "Rehab" ---Every single one of those artist recieved multiple nominations, not to mention 4 of these songs were nominated for ROTY.
Or even last years VOTY nominations: Lady Gaga β "Bad Romance" 30 Seconds to Mars β "Kings and Queens" B.o.B (featuring Hayley Williams) β "Airplanes" Eminem β "Not Afraid" Florence + the Machine β "Dog Days Are Over" Lady Gaga (featuring BeyoncΓ©) β "Telephone" ---Same thing, most of these artist recieved GF nominations.
I'm not saying the VMAs decide the Grammy nominations, but they do shine a light on to what can be expected. I have a feeling that at this years VMAs Sleigh Bells' "Rill Rill", Jessie J's "Price Tag", and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" will recieve VOTY nominations and that might help them recieve nominations. It might be because I'm a huge fan of Sleigh Bells, but I can see them with ROTY, BNA, Pop Performance by Duo or Group, and Music Video nomination next year at the Grammys (All for "Rill Rill") because it seems like a really good cross-over success type of song. It just needs airplay and such.

Sleigh Bells could be the alt. BNA nominee but it'll take some major crossover success to get them any other general nominations.
QUESTION - With Watch The Throne and possibly another Kanye solo album coming, is there room or is he going to cancel himself out?

I see BNA looking something like this: The Band Perry Jessie J Luke Bryan Nicki Minaj Sleigh Bells
Sleigh Bells are definitely the alternative/wtf/unknown "front runners" for BNA right now
