Kesha's performance at the Billboard Music Awards was better than anything done by a male at the VMA's last year. I don't see how the performances were "varied." There were no exciting females performing and it's the reason the show sucked balls. The 2009 had Gaga, Beyonce, Janet Jackson, Katy Perry and even Taylor Swift doing an uptempo. We don't need a bunch of disposable generic males a la Jason DeRulo being given the opportunity to perform when we can have someone like Beyonce and Gaga do something that will be talked about the next day. this aint the MTV Diva Awards. There are artists like Cee Lo Green, who had the best grammy 2011 performance arguably, and Bruno Mars. Alot of the female performers sans gaga and beyonce are all style and no substance, its all smoke and mirrors, flash without the power. Katy Perry cannot perform live, that Kesha performance at the BMAs was trash. I hope mtv actually switches it up somehow, get Mumsford and Sons and Bon Iver, bands that can create more buzz ala Florence and the Machine last year. Get Adele. Enough with this diva back track bulls**t. And what was so special about the Taylor Swift performance. She sings in a backtrack in a subway, then giddily runs outside and jumps on a car and sings some more to a backtrack. That is considered special to you? If I remember currently, Katy Perry opened the 2009 show with an embarrassing tribute to Queen. How can you even mentioned those? 2009 was remembered for three things, the kanye - taylor debacle and the lady gaga performance, and maybe the beyonce performance. Bruno Mars, fucking really? lol Beyonce, Gaga and the rest might be "smoke and mirrors" but the truth is they can perform circles around everyone you mentioned and they WILL grab headlines by putting on a memorable performance something Bruno fucking Mars won't ever be able to do. Of course there should be male performances but my point is that USUALLY the VMA's most memorable performances ever are always done by female acts and they should ALWAYS have more of them at the show to make it more exciting, instead of having freaking Jason DeRulo and freaking B.o.B. Plus Mumsford and Sons and Bon Iver? This ain't coachella, let's get real, it's MTV.

I will be happy with a performance or wins from Lady GaGa, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Bruno Mars.
Beyonce and Katy Perry should get some nominations or perform.

`08 was Britney's year, `09 was Bey/Taylor, `10 was Gaga, and you can already pencil in Katy for `11.
2009 was the best VMA's ever. It was magical. Last year was alright too, but not as good as the year prior. Let's hope this year will be another good year for the awards. I wish they had them back in NYC, though.

2009 the best VMAs? I don't think any show from the last decade could fit that bill- even 2003. :)
The show also lost "it" when it started letting fans vote on the major categories.

I hope Pink gets some love.
And you can't mention 2009 VMA without mentioning her. She stole the show. As usual.

Katy should sweep. Firework was an inspiring and beautifully shot music video. BTW was sh*tty and HIAM was average. But I don't know how strong Katy's fanbase is.

There were other videos than those three you named...
Katy should not sweep. No one should. If this is fan voted, she certainly will not.

The past two years were mid-September, though, and I think that's a much better time. LOL @ them trying to make last year's show sound like it was amazing. It was boring as hell. Worst VMAs I've ever seen.

I don't think there was any video in the last year worthy of a sweep like Bad Romance (Single Ladies should've but they had a clean split for Brit/Taylor/Gaga). I see Firework winning VOTY, with Cee Lo, Adele, Nicki, Gaga, Britney bringing up the rear.

I would love if they VMAs would launch the person in my avatar similar to GaGa getting a big push after XTina dressed like her at the 08 VMAs.
I like this video more than most I've seen this year:

^They did with Florence + the Machine & Muse, so why not try to do the same for Natalia?

I don't really like her, but I think Katy deserves to win big this year. She's put out hit after hit (which is the biggest criteria for this award show) and each song has had a great video. Well, except TD.

I would LOVE P!nk to perform. I know she doesn't have anything new out, but we only got 1 performance of RYG and none of FP.
