NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worst possible choice on the album, despite the fact it's a killer album track. This'll flop HARD. :'(
Why could'nt Glassnote use their wits and release "Thistle & Weeds" or "White Blank Page". ???
This is going to potentially ruin their career on alternative... it flopped hard in Europe after it was released as the forth single (all other singles before charted fairly well). Jesus, I'm soooo pissed.... >:(
This is WAY to bluegrass/folksy for alternative... Please switch the single choice RIGHT AWAY!!! :'(

I will echo the length of your "NO", but I won't mince my words. I think this song sucks. In fact, I believe I had it ranked as the worst song on the album in my album ranker for this. And your two single suggestions were the right ones to go with too.

God I'm soo fucking pissed that Glassnote never learned from the mistake of releasing this in Europe a year ago. >:(

It would have been nice to get "Thistle and Weeds" though. That's a good one.

Was hoping for "White Blank Page", it is definitely one of my favorites off the album.

Yeah. probably the worst choice. With the success they've been having , they could literally keep "The Cave" going for a couple more months and release 2 more singles. This will definitely kill the momentum of the record.

I can't say I agree with the above comments at all. "White Blank Page" and "Thistle & Weeds" strike me as too slow and epic for Alternative radio, while "Roll Away Your Stone" feels more like their previous hits.
I don't find this to be any more left-field than "Little Lion Man". If anything, it might be prove to be too similar to the previous singles for the average listener, but I could also see it becoming another hit.
I like "Winter Winds" a lot and think that might be the best single choice. But in any case, I'd love to see these guys continue their success at Alternative.

I LOVE this song, but couldn't agree more with those saying that "White Blank Page" would do better as a single. It's much more "instant," and it's the kind of song that one HAS to listen to again after first hearing it

I see this going like "Lovers in Japan" did for Coldplay. It'll have a great bullet, look promising, and then, drive straight off a cliff. I think the title track could have worked instead.

Did Coldplay send "Lovers in Japan" to Alt.? I think you might be thinking of "Strawberry Swing," actually. I'm pretty sure this will go top 40, at least, if that's what you mean.

I think the title track could have worked instead. No, that's a pure album-only track to my ears. Here were the possible singles that could've been picked from the album besides "Roll Away Your Stone": - "White Blank Page" - "Thistle & Weeds" - "I Gave You All" - "Timshel" - "Dust Bowl Dance" - "Awake My Soul"

I think you'd have to add "Winter Winds" to your list (even though I don't like that song) based on what people have said in this and other M&S threads. My ranked list of possible remaining singles:
Thistle & Weeds I Gave You All (I love this song, but besides you Dev, no one has mentioned it, but this is my 2nd favorite off the album after T&W) White Blank Page Dust Bowl Dance Winter Winds
If we're talking about songs that would function as singles better than "Roll Away Your Stone", then add in every other song on the album for me.

"The Cave" and "Little Lion Man" are probably the only songs on the album with the instant gratification necessary for radio IMO. "Winter Winds" would chart, but I don't think it would be huge.

I think every song remaining on the album WOULD CHART. "The Cave" went to #2 following a #1. The next single is going to hit top 50 easily with an adds date. This song might even be successful, but I hate it. I'd guess that it'll be kinda like "Crawl" was for Kings Of Leon on their last album and I'll guess that it'll peak somewhere in the 30s. "Winter Winds", "White Blank Page", and "Thistle & Weeds" I think would all go top 20 at the very least.

Should've been WBP. This won't do nearly as well as LLM or TC, and that's a real bummer.

I sharply disagree with most of you about "Roll Away Your Stone" and what Mumford's best bets would be for a follow-up. In fact, this is arguably the best choice they have of continuing their radio success ("White Blank Page" being the argument). I'm dying to do a track-by-track analysis, but I haven't had the time to work on something like that.
Sure, Mumford have had two huge singles so far, but with such a folksy sound, I think they really have to play it safe here, especially for Alternative (Rock) radio. They're nowhere close to being able to get away with releasing whatever they want and having radio gobble it up no questions asked. You have to keep the casual radio listener in mind, not pre-existing Mumford fans. If they earn a 4th single, then they can try a ballad, but you can't tell me that a song without any pep or a song that takes way too long to develop into something commercially viable (i.e., the rest of the album) would have a shot in hell of making a three-peat. I mean, is everybody really seeing the forest for the trees here?

Look at their discography wikipedia, and look at the UK chart peaks of all of their singles (released and digital downloads), and then using that in conjunction with people's opinions on here as well as their fan's opinions (youtube and itunes both have "White Blank Page" and "Winter Winds" decently above this), tell me that you really believe that THIS is their best remaining single option on the album.

I'm obviously with Jamie here, this wasn't a good choice to release. "White Blank Page" would've at least went Top 20 and could've used it as a crossover to HAC if they don't release "The Cave" over there soon. If you see their homeland chart success, as Jamie mentioned, you can plainly see that "Roll Away Your Stone" basically ended their era over there. I just don't want that to happen here. :'(

As do I, I don't think any of it can live up to any song on Sigh No More (this is a prediction before hearig anything though, I could be wrong).

probably one of my least favorite songs from them :< I'd prefer White Blank Page (one of the best songs probably in the last couple of years) or Awake My Soul

I haven't heard the album yet, but this song doesn't sound so bad to me. Nowhere as good as the two previous singles, but not horrid like I expected from all these reviews. I guess that means the album is pretty good then?
