Thanks for reading! :) "Outta My Head" is another great single choice--I'm just afraid that it will be too "rock" to cross over to pop (since to my knowledge, rock hasn't been doing that well on CHR lately) and that starting with "Start Of Something Good" would fare better, leaving "Outta My Head" to follow with the benefit of extra exposure. Then again, I'm not much of a chart follower, so I could be totally off in my theorizing, haha. I agreed with your point of view that Start of Something Good should be the follow-up single :) I really believe that it is this era's 'Home' which will have multi-format options and mass appeal. I really hope if it is chosen as the 2nd single, it would bring the album sales to great height:) And to all who wanted a rock sounding sound such as 'Outta My Head' as single - I say please don't ever ever think of it!!! Wake Up please!!!! Look at what is happening now to ' Crawling Back To Me' which is more rock-based compared to their recent hits - even Hot AC radio stations are not playing it as much! SOSG is too much the same. And Outta My Head is nothing like CBTY. Even Chris has stated if they have their say it would be Outta My Head as next single. Trombones: You are probably right. I just feel SOSG is so similar to past singles, as good as it is.

The album is absolutely great. Loving it. I think it's better than LTT - which I loved to death - and just might be better than their first.
My top 7:
LMM SOSG Renegade OMH CBTY LMM BTS

thecelebritycafe.com/reviews/daughtry-break-spell-11-22-2011Daughtry is back with a brand new album, Break the Spell. The following is a track by track review of Break the Spell. Renegade: The band is heading in a new direction with their new single, “Renegade.” The hard rock stylized single opens with an electric guitar rift and heavy drums. The song follows the typical Daughtry formula, which showcases Chris Daughtry’s unique rock vocal style, but this single leans more towards being aggressive instead of a rock pop single. The single does present a more gritty side to the rock pop polished band, and the change-up is welcomed. The lyrics also take a dark turn. “Don’t have any time here left to kill, don’t want to go down like the setting sun, so let’s break out of this town like a renegade,” sings Daughtry. Crawling Back to You: The lead single off of Break the Spell was reviewed by Chelsea Lewis before Break the Spell was released. Please read the review here. Outta My Head: The tempo of Break the Spell increases with this electric guitar driven track. Daughtry also shows remarkable control over his vocal range with “Outta My Head.” Daughtry sings, “Just like a simple song, I can’t get you outta my head.” This song will be stuck in the heads of fans. The chorus is entrancing and the beat is electric. Start of Something Good: “Start of Something Good” takes on a slower tempo and sounds similar to “Life After You,” but Daughtry vocals can translate from hard rock and borderline scream, to a more smoothing passionate tone. When the chorus kicks in, there is a vulnerability to Daughtry and his lyrics. It is a simple song about hoping a relationship will work out in the end and Daughtry takes a simple love song and creates an unforgettable track with “Start of Something Good.” Crazy: “Crazy” follows the classic Daughtry format. This is not a stand out track on the record, but it does show off the musicianship of the band as a whole. The guitar solos complement Daughtry’s raw emotions and lyrics with “Crazy.” Break the Spell: The title track, “Break the Spell,” shows the maturity of Daughtry as a band and Chris Daughtry as a lead singer. The group does not play it safe on this album and the risk has paid off. The band has taken on more intense subject matter and a harder rock sound, but Daughtry is showing as the band members go through life, their music is changing with them. As it should be, evolution through maturity results in amazing music. “Break the Spell” showcases this evolution and has a captivating chorus that will likely be heard on the radio within the next few months. We’re Not Gonna Fall: “We’re Not Gonna Fall” showcases the lyrical writing on Break the Spell. The song contains all of the elements that make a great Daughtry track, but the lyrics are what stand out. “We are never gonna break down/ no, no/ We are not gonna fall now/ Never gonna bleed out.” The song describes what people fight for every day in life and reminds listeners that if they keep moving forward, they will not fall. Gone Too Soon: “Gone Too Soon” may be the most emotional song on the record. The song tells the story of a person who has died. “Who would you be, what would you look like…Today could have been the next day of the rest of your life,” sings Daughtry. His emotions are raw and can be felt when listening to this song. The song is about telling this emotional story, no fancy guitar solos or drum solos, just a simple song that comes across as a dedication of love and loss. To anyone who has lost someone, this song is meaningful and honest. Losing My Mind: “Losing My Mind” picks the tempo back up after the emotional, “Gone Too Soon,” but what is the most impressive piece of this track is Daughtry going up high into his vocal register with the chorus. This adds to his already impressive range of vocal talent. The chorus shows restrain for the first few notes and then pushes forward into an intense rock ballad. Rescue Me: “Rescue Me” switches out of the typical tempo on Break the Spell. The song showcases the power behind Daughtry's voice and the song really hits its stride about two minutes in. Louder Than Ever: Very similar to “Renegade,” “Louder Than Ever” takes on a harder edge with the overall sound. The lyrical writing on “Louder Than Ever” is what makes the song memorable. It is yet another example of how Daughtry is becoming more mature and growing into their sound, while remembering to push musical boundaries. Spaceship: “Spaceship” is just a fun relaxed song. “Spaceship” sounds very similar to other upbeat rock songs, but the band's personal touch on the song helps to take the song from ordinary to memorable. What “Spaceship” does is show the listening audience that Daughtry is willing to experiment with vocal techniques and lyrical writing. Who’s They: The lyrical content of “Who’s They” sounds similar to a Rise Against empowering anthem. “Who’s They” is a song about being yourself and remembering we are who we are. This song is an excellent track off of Break the Spell. Maybe We’re Already Gone: The opening chords of “Maybe We’re Already Gone” sounded amazingly similar to a country song, which may take the listening audience by surprise, but the change in sound is welcomed. It showcases another side of Daughtry, not just hard rock, but again the band's need to push themselves further musically. Everything But Me: “Everything But Me” slows down the tempo of Break Tte Spell again, but after the intense “Maybe We’re Already Gone,” this track is well placed. Daughtry is known for taking raw emotion and having that translate into their songs. “Everything But Me” is a classic example of that. This has the possibility to become a hit radio single for the band. Lullaby: An acoustic song ends the album. This slow lullaby is an amazing close to the album, coming full circle from hard rock to classic acoustic guitar. “Lullaby.” In a word this song is simply beautiful.

Was having issues with iTunes preorder, but I got the album downloaded this morning. I am about halfway through and enjoying almost everything I hear, but "Outta My Head" is the clear cut standout for me so far.

The album is now $6.96 at walmart.com and will be all day Friday at Walmart. www.walmart.com/ip/17789029The next single MUST be uptempo. Daughtry hasn't had an uptempo single since "No Surprise". It seems it will be "Outta My Head" bec. that is what is on the sticker on the album. Just hope CHR gives it a shot.

^^I hope so. The sales estimates are to be expected considering how poorly CBTY did at radio and saleswise. But I'm really not optimistic at how any future singles are going to be received at CHR, and the decision to abandon rock during the last era is still hurting them. I think those bridges may have been permanently burned.

I think they could always rebuild a relationship with Rock if they did a real campaign/reach out/station visits, etc., like any new band. It's not gonna happen by just sending out a single and relying on the fans to request.
CHR right now doesn't look good. I'd say their best shot is to have a HUGE hit on HAC and good sales of the single and then hopefully CHR will pay attention.
HAC in the large cities seem to be playing so much pop these days. And CBTY has not done well at those stations at all. RCA is awful at picking singles, yet again. It's a pity because "Break The Spell" is an awesome album with some awesome, new-sound tunes. I hope people get to hear it. Well, buy it — which is most important.

I don't think the next single should be an uptempo one. I wish it would be, though. But I really don't think radio will play anything like "Outta My Head" nowadays.
The best next single choices for me are: "Losing My Mind", SOSG, and "Rescue Me". They need to get it right this time. I think they should just drop CBTY as soon as possible. It seems like it's done on CHR.

I've said before that I want Spaceship or Break The Spell as pop singles, I wanna add Losing My Mind to that list. I'd like Outta My Head to be a single as well, but whether that one's right for pop is another matter.

I knew this would be an awesome album; I'm definitely gonna get this (the deluxe version) when I have the chance. My overall favorites include "Outta My Head", "Start of Something Good", the title track, "Gone Too Soon", and "Losing My Mind". Most of these I'd love to see become pop singles. I personally think OMH would've been a much better lead single. but it could be a good single following CBTY. In fact, why was CBTY even chosen first? I don't get it. IMO, it should get pulled since it won't chart in the top 40 at all.

Apart from Start of Something Good, my personal pick for potential singles include Losing My Mind (CHR, Hot AC, AC, Alternative, AAA), Break The Spell (CHR, Hot AC, AC) and Louder Than Ever (CHR, Hot AC, AC). Each of these 3 songs has something special to offer in terms of instrumentation/vocal/vibe.
Losing My Mind is a my 2nd fave after Start of Something Good - when Chris goes into falsetto (... losing your mind.....) I am completely hook! Break The Spell has some really catchy and 'swinging' style of musical arrangement to accompany Chris' earnest vocal - which took on some acrobatic twists near the end for an epic/ carthatic finish! Bravo!!! Louder Than Ever is all about the nostalgic 80's vibe which is so endearing.
About OMH - I know it is listed on the album sticker so it has the high chance of being the next single. But if the label company has made the wrong choice in CBTY - OMH could be a wrong one as well. I know it is a great song but it is just out of zone for any radio format to take it seriously IMO.

Thanks! Sorry for another question, but do you know what were the songs listed on the album sticker when Leave This Town was released? I know that NS, LAY and September are listed on that now...

Sorry - I do not have the LTT album casing with me now. But I can remember distinctly that the sticker (as you have mentioned) listed NS, Life After You and September which were exactly the singles chosen eventually.

Anyway, I only hope that anything they release, smash everywhere!

Now that I have had the record for a few days, I feel I have a good feel for it now. I think it's a weaker album than Leave This Town, but I like it better than their debut. "Outta My Head", "Start of Something Good," Spaceship," "Break The Spell," "Everything But Me," and "Crashing Back To You" are the standouts for me, and there are only a few I don't care for at all ("Who's They" and "Maybe We're Already Gone"). The rest are all good or OK.

Daughtry, Break the Spell (129,000 weekly, debut, 129,000 total) (#8 Billboard 200) :) I was hoping that BTS could reach 150k - but 129 k is pretty respectable considering that CBTY has yet to become a real hit all round. Also other than Start of Something Good - I would not mind if Losing My Mind is the next single. There's something special about this song- its hits on you easily and grows on you. Plus it puts you into some kind of feeling mood ;)
