They've always kinda toed the line between indie and post-grunge. Really, they're very much in the spirit of some mid-late 90's bands, namely Everclear. They've always been a bit hit-or-miss for me, but with a few songs like "Calling You" and "Congratulations" that I really loved. I'm interested in their new material.

I've never thought of them as even close to indie. I've always thought if they were successful in the the 90s that they'd be up there with say the Goo Goo Dolls, Collective Soul, Gin Blossoms, Soul Asylum, Everclear, Matchbox 20, Third Eye Blind, etc because they of the sound they have. Honestly, I'm surprised they were as successful as they were on the Alternative format since all of the bands I mentioned above hardly got any play by the early-mid part of the 00s.

It's funny how now a sub-genre of rock we call "independent" when plenty of those artists are on major labels, so it can confuse the hell out of someone.

Eager to hear this. I liked the singles from their last album.

Sounds pretty good. If I remember correctly, Approaching Normal was quite hi-fi and used a lot of Pro Tools and FL Studio. This sounds more like something off of Foiled. I think it's raw enough.

This does sound a lot less mainstream and a lot more "indie rock" sounding than their last album. I call a Top 10 hit.

Definitely a more indie feel to it. That alone should get this to the Top 10, like DJ-O's prediction.

Yep, it sounds a little more indie leaning than earlier material, but still the same Blue October that I've grown to know and love over the past nine years or so.

1. Everything (AM Limbo) 2. The Feel Again (Stay) 3. The Money Tree 4. For The Love 5. Drama Everything 6. The Chills 7. The Flight (LNK to MSP) 8. Any Man In America 9. You Waited Too Long 10. The Honesty 11. The Getting Over It Part 12. The Worry List 13. The Follow Through
Apparently the band turned down a 360 deal with Universal to join the ranks of Red/Sony, who will distribute the album in a joint with Blue's own Up/Down Records. Good on them.

Random Billboard fact: Blue October has exactly as many Adult Top 40 hits as they do on Modern / Alternative. As rough around the edges as this band seems, that almost totally astounds me.

Lot of song titles with "The" in it.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if Universal coerced them into making an entire album with Pro Tools and writing songs like "Jump Rope."

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if Universal coerced them into making an entire album with Pro Tools and writing songs like "Jump Rope." >:( "Jump Rope" is underrated- not every song has to be some complex epic. Simple works sometimes. Approaching Normal in general is underrated I think. I'd take it over History For Sale (even though I love "Calling You"). Foiled is still my favorite, followed by Consent To Treatment. The list of song titles is very intriguing. Can't wait to hear this album.

The titles of The songs sound like The most interesting array of The titles that I've ever heard on an album.

Gotta chime in that I loved Foiled, then bought History for Sale and loved it even more. Blue October became one of my favorite bands, right up there with Linkin Park. Then they released Approaching Normal. I bought that album, listened several times through and nothing ever grabbed me. I've been skipping their shows for a few years... hoping...

I only have the last two records. Foiled was one of my favourites from 2006. Approaching Normal I liked a lot in the beginning but quickly realized that it lacked something. As an album, it is great but compared to Foiled and why I got into them in the first place (yes, I'm a late catcher), I decided that it was much too light where the heaviest songs are the anchored tracks Weight Of The World and The End with Dirt Room thrown in for good measure.
I'm also on the nay side of Jump Rope. I think it IS a fun song but just feels so out of place on the album. But at the same time, I've come to expect that from them. I feel like there's such a level of bipolarism or whatever on their albums that such an extreme amongst the songs actually makes sense for them.
I'll also add that I'm surprised so many of you guys like Blue October. Since (and maybe because of) Hate Me, plus Into The Ocean, I almost feel as if they'd be lumped in with other hasbeen wannabe rock bands that can't seem to earn any respect amongst rock fans but it's actually refreshing to know that despite their lighter material, they seem to be respected among you guys.
