I just listened to "Crash" and "Running Out Of Pain" off their debut and "Photograph" off Potter's Field minutes before reading this thread. Hmmmm.
I didn't check out their last album or EP, but none of the singles got me very excited (which is why I never checked them out) so despite my nostalgia trip, I'm probably less excited for something new from them. :/

You should check out their last album. It's pretty good IMO. Maybe not as good as Potter's Field, but still decent.

I never heard "Potter's Field" but yes their last album was very good. Plenty of memorable and catchy tunes on there. It feels like it was released ages ago.

Better not be an EP this time. ;) "Potter's Field" is their weakest album by a country mile. Their last album had a collection of solid singles. Another "Lie to Me" would be a treat.

I come at 12 Stones from a nu-metal angle. The singles from Anthem For The Underdog indicated that their sound had shifted in more of a post-grunge direction. Even if some of the riffs were heavier, the production style and overall sound was less heavy even in the more aggressive parts. I may check it out someday, but with all the albums out there that I've never heard, I doubt it should be a high priority of mine.

give your thoughts quickly before this gets taken down It's average and exactly what I was expecting given the sound of all their active rock singles over the last four years. It should peak around #20 is my guess.

Standard fare for them. Sounds like "Adrenaline" has been rehashed. The heavy parts did sound cool, though.
Also, I was halfway through listening to "Would?" when I started playing this, which didn't really help with my first impression.

I like all their singles better than this on first listen. Not too bad, but underwelming definitely. I still can't get over how "The Way I Feel" wasn't as big of a hit as it should have been, especially when the music scene at that time took post-grunge and nu-metal with arms wide open.

^Really? The two singles that I expected to be hits from that era were "Broken" and "Crash". And I was following active rock radio at the time. Maybe part of why I expected those two to be the hits was because my local active rock station added each of these and not "The Way I Feel" AND because I like both of those much better.

Well, seeing as "Broken" was the first single, I was surprised that didn't do better than just top 50. I thought all three singles were strong, but surely you'd expect the lead single to do the damage, Dev.

I like "The Way I Feel" the most out of that era. But really with Default getting a big hit, Nickelback hitting it big, Linkin Park, etc, I thought that "The Way I Feel" would fit right in.

It's not like "The Way I Feel" was drastically different to "Broken," though. If "Broken" wasn't gonna hit, then nothing else had a hope in hell.

It's been so long since I've listened to anything from them that I'd have to re-listen to most of the singles from "Potter's Field" or "The Anthem of the Underdog" to completely remember how they went. This seems rather average sounding. Not bad at all, but didn't blow me away. I'm hoping they can finally score a Top 20 hit on Active.

While I agree that in this case, "Broken" had a better shot at hitting than "The Way I Feel", I also agree with Devin that it isn't always the case. The best example I can think of is 30 Seconds To Mars. "Attack" and "The Kill" are very similar songs. But "Attack" performed mediocrely as a lead single, BUT well enough to put them further on the map so that they had a high enough profile for "The Kill" to do the damage that it did.

I don't think "Attack" and "The Kill" are similar songs. "The Kill" definitely has more edgy, much catchier, more appealing to the general music listener, and it crossed-over to pop/HAC, all of which helped it outpeak "Attack" and land Top 3. Plus what you said. ;)

I actually prefer "Attack" over "The Kill". I was surprised it missed Top 20, my radio station played it quite a bit back when it was released.

I prefer "Attack" better as well, but both are very good. Hell, actually I prefer "From Yesterday" over both of them.

This song rose close to the top 40 last week but now is suddenly outside of the top 50. After having 3 singles perform fairly well off their last album and an EP single that did decently, is this not even going to break the top 40? I don't really like the song, but I'm still shocked.

Yeah, and Fair to Midland has slipped back down to #47. What is going on!? 12 Stones are now on the label who managed to get The Dirty Heads to #1, so it's certainly nothing to do with that. Maybe they're old news?

Probably another bump. I think this will resurface soon enough.

A bump that takes out of the top 50 and down a quarter of its spins this far into the game is enough to make me think that it's either the end or at least a big enough bump to put the ceiling on this song somewhere around #40.
In fairness, I don't remember it getting an adds date, so maybe it still has more left in the tank if it hasn't gotten its proper push yet. Otherwise, my guess is that this song is essentially done. If we suddenly see an adds date for it, then I'll concede that anything short of a top 10 is still possible.
