Thanks, PTB> Aside from Madonna albums to come, keep in mind that she (and Whitney and Janet) saw a good number of sales in the pre-SoundScan era. PTB, are these numbers through early April? The Madonna ones are the same from that time frame. Not that they'd have huge updates since then... If you find updated numbers for Who's That Girl (as meager as they are) and Evita (which should be at 2 million-plus), it would be great- thanks in advance. :) Just Madonna and Britney. Madonna was the last artist I was going to update, but Soundscan went down and never came back, so I went to bed. I went ahead and just placed the ones I gave you back in April as a placeholder, and since it's unlikely they've seen much of an increase since then, they should all be in the same vicinity. Every other artist is updated through this Wednesday. :) Hopefully I'll have all of Madonna's updated catalog this afternoon. Britney's numbers are from April as well, with the same reason as above. I'll get updates for those too if anyone wants. I'll get numbers for Whitney's Christmas album, Avril Lavigne and Leona Lewis later today. Thank you so much!

Christina isn't the only one. Janet Jackson consistently fell with each studio album and Britney only had one album that upticked. People just like to shit on Christina for obvious reasons.

Thanks for posting this, always good to have hard data.
This is US sales only, of course. Too bad we don't seem to have good sources for WW sales anymore. I know the last total we had for Kelly was 23 million albums, but that's a round number and not broken down by album.

Thanks, PTB- I'll look forward to seeing the Madonna update. :) Counting Evita, she's scanned some 29 million albums in the SoundScan era, which ain't too shabby, given that a good amount of sales also occurred from 1983-early 1991.

Did you guys even look at the data? What part of Janet's sales show her decreasing in sales from her first solo album? If anything she's gone up, down, up and then down again. Christina's solo EP sales have only gone down since her first release. We saw and read it the first time, Joe. We didn't need to see it quoted again without any additions.

Those are actually her third and fourth albums. Her debut album is estimated to have sold somewhere around 500k I believe, but I don't know what the Soundscan figures are. I don't know if Dream Street was ever reissued during the Soundscan era. It sold considerably less than her debut, so it wouldn't add much to her total either way.

Her first 2 albums were Pre Soundscan, they sold a lot more than the Soundscan data provided... Even still...if you look at what it is being shown here, Janet's albums "didn't consistently fell with each studio album" like Xtina.

Of note- the All For You sum doesn't include the CD/DVD combo, which would tack on another 130K-140K or so.

Madonna: Madonna - 454,001 Like a Virgin - 577,159 True Blue - 407,733 Like a Prayer - 578,468 The Immaculate Collection - 5,797,180 Ray of Light - 3,846,141 Music - 2,945,534 American Life - 685,112 Confessions on a Dance Floor - 1,708,294
these are actually very good numbers considering. Looks like Music will cross 3M soon, and Confessions should get to 2M. The Immaculate Collection will easily get to 6M, too. Amazing!!! :'(

Why is this even a discussion? If you're only counting the Soundscan titles though, then that ignores 4 of her albums and 9 years of her career. I wouldn't use her Soundscan sales to make a generalization about her career trajectory.
