Music's catalog sales have dropped much since the release of GHV2, so I wouldn't expect it to cross 3m- it's certified triple platinum, anyhow, so that will be it. The totals for Music and American Life must include other editions, as AL's tally jumped a good 8K from the last known figure, and Music's jumped even more.
Confessions... won't be hitting 2m in scanned sales in any near-future decade. A 2m cert would be nice, but it's probably a little short of 2m shipped.

Don't forget, these are soundscan sales only. Madonna, Mariah, Janet and Whitney have enjoyed millions of record sales through the record clubs in the 90s that did NOT report their sales to soundscan. Bummer. Why didn't they though?

^That's where certs come in handy for the older titles. :) Of course, in some cases, some albums may be due for cert upgrades. We can't really base a title's eligibility on its last cert date, though, as a label may have certified a title long after it was eligible for a certain threshold.
Warner Bros. especially may be lax in that regard- witness certifying three of Madonna's 80s singles in 1998, nine years after the gold criteria was cut in half to 500K. Those vinyl singles did not sell much of anything in those nine years. :) (and there likely are at other singles that could be certified, but it's unlikely to do it). And, it certified The Immaculate Collection at 6 million, and then at 9 million some years later.

Holidayguy or Areyoureadytojump, do you know why the record clubs didn't report their sales to soundscan?

^Not sure- but part of the reason could have to do with how a number of selections get severely discounted or even get "sold" for free. You know, "Buy 1, Get 2 Free," those sorts of deals. Still count as toward shipments, though.
(On a related note, YourMusic- which used to be BMG- is closing).

^No, it won't. It probably sells 200 copies or less a week now. That's 292k to get to 2 million. It's not going to happen. Neither will 2xp. It hasn't sold enough.

Thanks, PTB> Aside from Madonna albums to come, keep in mind that she (and Whitney and Janet) saw a good number of sales in the pre-SoundScan era. PTB, are these numbers through early April? The Madonna ones are the same from that time frame. Not that they'd have huge updates since then... If you find updated numbers for Who's That Girl (as meager as they are) and Evita (which should be at 2 million-plus), it would be great- thanks in advance. :) Just Madonna and Britney. Madonna was the last artist I was going to update, but Soundscan went down and never came back, so I went to bed. I went ahead and just placed the ones I gave you back in April as a placeholder, and since it's unlikely they've seen much of an increase since then, they should all be in the same vicinity. Every other artist is updated through this Wednesday. :) Hopefully I'll have all of Madonna's updated catalog this afternoon. Britney's numbers are from April as well, with the same reason as above. I'll get updates for those too if anyone wants. I'll get numbers for Whitney's Christmas album, Avril Lavigne and Leona Lewis later today. What about the numbers for 'Whitney: The Greatest HIts' if you have those please. Thank you

Well, there probably are some copies of Confessions in stores/outlets, but, yeah, still a decent ways off from 2m.

Thanks Push the Button, this is hugely appreciated!
Good to see Funhouse at 1.9 million, a 2xp cert is hopefully in its (relatively) near future. Same with I Am... Sasha Fierce for 3xp
Strange that Blackout and All I Ever Wanted are STILL uncertified. Both are definitely eligible.

What is it currently selling per week or per month? I remember HolidayGuy and someone else used to post weekly catalog sales of her albums and the relatively recent ones didn't seem to sell more than a few hundred copies in a given week, at most. 2xp would be nice too but I don't see it happening anytime in our lifetime

And also another 2 divas missing from the list if it's possible to get any Soundscan numbers from them: Shania Twain and Toni Braxton

Thanks much, PTB. :) The new Madonna numbers you added would be through 5/22? And the nine others would be through April 3. The others would not sell a whole lot in the last seven weeks, but I was curious about The Immaculate Collection as it returned to iTunes recently and such. Whenever you get a moment, if you could look into that- perhaps it's added 5k or so, who know. Thanks. ;)
Additions for Madge would be: The Confessions Tour: 148,000 (through 8/15/10) Sticky & Sweet Tour: 66,000 (through 12/26/10; this does not include 18K+ in Blu-Ray-only sales)

PTB, do you know if these totals include import album sales? I know they show up in the SoundScan system. For instance, in a November 2008 report, separate totals for five other editions of Music totaled 20K and change (two of them showed as imports, totaling roughly half of that 20K). I didn't see any extra tallies for American Life. So, between special editions and imports, that would explain the total for Music being notably higher than where it would be without those numbers in the mix (20K+ less). For some acts, import sales would not make all that much difference, anyhow, but... Oh, another teenie-tiny one for Madonna: The Royal Box: 7,715 (through 11/2/08)

Thanks so much! Whitney and Britney are the only ones with 10mill+ albums And soon OIDIA will hit 10million aswell <3 (soon=10 years, but still) Ms. Celine begs to differ, lol: Falling Into You - 10,787,262 And "Let's Talk About Love" is closer to hitting the 10 million mark than "Ooops" is.: 9,482,710 copies. Not to take anything away from Britney though, because her sales of those two albums are phenomenal! But back to Celine, I can't believe how massive her album sales are. I find that people don't mention her as much when comparing diva sales like they do Mariah, Madonna etc.

Janet and Madge definitely have higher sales. We know Like A Virgin is diamond, and I've read that Rhythm Nation has sold somewhere between 8-9 million and is undercertified.

Alot of the albums are undercertified, esp Janet's. Britney also has a couple of undercertified albums, well, qualified to be certified.
Both BOMT and OIDIA have record club sales of over 1 million, and Britney had somewhere above 500K.

That sucks :( Mariah Carey - The Emancipation of Mimi - 5,953,333 - IDJ needs to buy 46,667 copies of this, STAT. Whitney Houston - One Wish - 477,464 - This needs to be certified Gold, STAT.

Isn't the Faith Hill "There You'll Be" album an import? I just searched by what albums of Madonna's I have, and I have her entire catalog. I tried to just get numbers for the biggies.

The Royal Box: 7,715 (through 11/2/08) I imagine it's still at that total, it must be long since deleted I actually have a (second hand) copy of it somewhere I got a few years ago, it's a great find.
