5x platinum? Considering Adele is, like, the only act to sell in those numbers these days, that's not very likely. I'd think Shania would be an easy platinum, and, perhaps 2 million if the material does well at country radio. I wouldn't count on much pop success.

I don't think there's any chance at all of her new material crossing over to CHR, no matter what it sounds like. Hot AC is possible, but that doesn't exactly sell many albums. I think saying Shania is going to sell as much or more than Adele is just very, very wishful thinking. She's a big name, yes. But these kinds of numbers are just so rare, I really can't even imagine Shania pulling them in.

Shania may or may not be a "big name" but that name is from mostly work done in the 1990s.
To assume a new album, 10 years after the last one would instantly place Shania at Adele-like status is definitely wishful thinking.
Artists whose primary work is recognized from more than 1 decade ago, almost never return to the same status after releasing a comback album.
If this were destined to happen, the single released earlier this year should have shot to #1 on curiosity alone (regardless of quality)

IF Shania came back with great music and great promotion I dont see why she wouldnt be successful. May not be BIG like she once was or all over and talked about like Adele but I think she would have success.

Her last album from 2002 really didn't get much airplay here in the US (except for a couple of the singles) and still managed to sell over 5 million copies. Her Greatest Hits that was released in 2004 went 4x Platinum, and the new songs included on that album weren't very good.
I don't think she is going to instantly have the same success as Adele, but with the right lead single and promotion, I think she could become relevant again in the music industry.

Shania Twain's alleged stalker denied bail, throws fitGet more: Shania Twain, Celeb LivesPosted 11/10/2011 3:28 PM PT by Olivia Allin Shania Twain's alleged stalker was denied bail on Wednesday and didn't take the ruling lightly, instead lashing out at the courtroom. "You know you're all very sick, you really are -- it's so sad," Palumbo said. "Have fun, because I'm going to keep having fun, wherever I am... What a bunch of psychopaths. Woo hoo. Shame, shame, shame. Shame on all of you!" The former Ottawa doctor Giovanni (John) Palumbo admitted to stalking the country star but was denied bail when the judge determined he had an "insufficient release plan." According to the Winnipeg Free Press, Palumbo also repeatedly interrupted Twain's video testimony during the court proceedings. In Twain's video testimony, she detailed the love letters she had received from Palumbo and said she feared his unwanted visits. Palumbo has been seen at Twain's family cottage, her grandmother's funeral and at the Juno Awards in March, which is where he was arrested. Palumbo has been in custody since his March arrest and is due back in court on November 15, where Dr. Helen Ward will testify on his psychiatric state. Ward's psychiatric evaluation concluded that Palumbo suffers from bipolar disorder and narcissistic personality disorder. But according to the Winnepeg Press, Ward deemed him to be criminally responsible for his crimes of criminal harassment by watching and besetting. The 45-year-old Grammy winning country singer, who is known for songs like "You're Still the One," "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" and "That Don't Impress Me Much," recently made her musical comeback after dealing with a messy divorce and losing her voice. In June, Twain received the 2,442nd star on the Walk of Fame. It is located at 6270 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the W Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. The singer accepted the honor at a ceremony hosted by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Twain achieved global success with her third album, "Come On Over," which was released in 1997 and sold over 40 million copies worldwide. The album earned Twain four Grammy Awards and became the best-selling album of all time by a female musician in any genre and the best-selling country album of all time. She last released a studio album in 2002. The record, "Up!," has sold more than 11 million copies in the United States. In 2008, Twain and her first husband Robert "Mutt" Lange, a record producer and the father of her son Eja, 9, separated after 14 years of marriage. The country and pop star spoke to the press recently to promote her new memoir, "From This Moment On," which made the New York Times bestseller list and details her struggle with her separation from her ex-husband, who allegedly cheated on her. Twain's new OWN reality series, "Why Not?," which also showcases her struggle and her journey to regain her voice after the scandal, debuted on May 8. The show gave Oprah Winfrey's new cable network its highest premiere ratings. Source

Ugh, I just want to hear news about whether she plans on putting a new album out or not. Wasn't she supposed to finish recording it this summer? Maybe they will release it next year before her Vegas run starts, or maybe they'll wait til after her Vegas show is over. in 2014 or 2015. :(

The following excerpt is from a new Lionel Richie interview article dated November 10, 2011:[/b][/url] The album is under lock and key for now, but we did get a taste of it on the docu-series, 'Why Not? With Shania Twain,' and you really did let her take over the lead vocals. Was it hard to talk her into that, given the medical problems she's had with her throat that have hindered singing?Look, all artists are egotistical maniacs with inferiority complexes. [laughs] We're great until we're alone. Once we're left alone, a little voice creeps in and says, "I don't know if we can do that again." When left alone too long, that little voice can talk us into madness. But what I had to do with Shania was just very simple. I said to her, "We have something in common: we are both scared to death." She said, "But you're Lionel Richie!" And I said, "But you're Shania Twain!" And in the middle of her paranoia, once she heard her own voice on that opening line, she loosened up. Greatness comes from fear. Fear can either shut us down and we go home, or we fight through it.The Boot

Love Lionel. :) Ill take the album when we get it. Im not worried about time, charts, sales and all that cause honestly I think shell be fine. I think people put the cart b4 the horse and make all these predictions and they either come out right or they come out wrong. Shes still gorgeous, the music can come out great or bad, who knows, but Im sure she can make good music again, good videos, performances, etc. Ill just be happy to have her back... obviously I wish her success and good music...but we just have to see. Im honestly not even thinking about when its gonna come out cause I have no expectations at this point cause we havent heard anything except for the Vegas show.

Shania returns to the charts for the second time this year, as the "White Christmas" duet with Michael Buble debuts at No. 28 on Billboard's 12/3 AC chart. :)

Shania Twain's Stalker Released From JailPosted Nov 16th 2011 9:45AM by Gayle Thompson / CommentsShania Twain is undoubtedly increasing her security detail today, since her accused stalker is now walking around as a free man. Dr. Giovanni (John) Palumbo was released from prison on Tuesday (Nov. 15), after spending more than seven months in jail, and receiving credit for time served. The doctor, who was given three years probation, has been ordered to stay more than a half kilometer (approx 1/3 of a mile) away from the musician and her family, and also to have no contact with her or anyone in her family. The 'Today Is Your Day' singer faced Palumbo in court in September, to express the effect his actions, including sending a large stack of love letters, had on her. "[The letters] make me uncomfortable and a little bit sad, awkward," she expressed (quote via the Vancouver Sun). "I don't consider him a fan ... I consider him a man who is pursuing me inappropriately." Palumbo, who has been in jail since his arrest at the Juno Awards in March, has lost his medical license and remains estranged from his family. His attorney, Gary Barnes, urged the judge to release him from prison so he could receive proper psychiatric care. "This has to end sometime," Barnes told the judge (quote via the Toronto Star). "It's my submission that this should end now." Meanwhile, Shania can be heard crooning 'White Christmas' with Michael Bublé on the singer's new holiday album. And she has just a year to go before kicking off her two-year run at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, where she'll perform 60 shows each year. "This is a dream for any recording artist," Shania shares of the concert engagement. "This is more than an opportunity, it's an exceptional gift." Tickets for her show at Caesar's, which begin Dec. 1, 2012, are on sale now and can be purchased here. The Boot

Shania Twain: Ten Prime Hits
CMT Will Air Why Not? With Shania TwainDecember 7, 2011; Written by CMT.com Staff To her loyal fans, Shania Twain is still the one. In 2011, she stepped back into the spotlight with a handsome new husband, a revealing autobiography and plans for a dazzling Las Vegas show that begins in December 2012. CMT will air all six episodes of her OWN series, Why Not? With Shania Twain, starting Thursday (Dec. 8) at 1 p.m. ET/PT. One of the biggest country superstars of the 1990s, Twain's upbeat tunes and memorable ballads still get us every time. Here are 10 of our favorites, chosen by the CMT.com staff. "Any Man of Mine"When I think Shania Twain, I think girl power. But not the revenge-getting, soak-it-in-kerosene kind. It's more of a confident, do-this-or-I'll-leave you type of girl power. Twain's album, The Woman in Me, was a staple in my mom's music collection, and I was 6 years old when "Any Man of Mine" became Twain's first No. 1 hit in 1995. To this day, I remember listening to that song in the minivan on the way to school in the mornings, as well as the little crush I had on the Canadian singer. -- Brian Rogala "From This Moment On"Oh, how I wish I could've been in the room when Twain and her now ex-husband Mutt Lange wrote "From This Moment On." It's as if they made a list of all the heartfelt ways to say "I love you," and then set them to music and made them all rhyme. If you just glanced at the lyrics, this power ballad might seem to be heavy on the ol' love clichés: "Life has begun." "You're the reason I believe in love." "Right beside you is where I belong." "You and I will never be apart." "I live only for your happiness." But her voice, and all those strings in the bridge, made it come alive. Had I not already been married in 1998, this would've been the perfect wedding song. Although Twain and Lange's marriage didn't live up to the tune's promises, it is still, for me, the epitome of a country love song. -- Alison Bonaguro "Honey, I'm Home"Maybe it's weird, but I like "Honey, I'm Home" because it's for the ladies. And by that, I mean the usual story of "man comes home, needs beer" becomes "woman works her tail off while also juggling many things that no man has to, comes home and needs a beer, a foot massage and the remote." I can appreciate that. The hell-raising woman image has its place, but let's be honest: Nobody is that angry all the time. (Right??) Twain provides a little stress relief in the process by playfully mixing country with '80s arena rock. Sorry, guys, you work plenty hard, too, and I know I'm taking a swing for the wrong team, but tonight you're on kitchen detail. -- Chris Parton "(If You're Not in It for Love) I'm Outta Here!"As a beautiful woman who paid her dues in local bars, it's easy to believe Shania heard every pickup line in the book. As a result, she's pretty convincing (and sassy) in the opening lines of this No. 1 hit from 1996. No, she wasn't a star in the backseat of a car -- or anywhere else for that matter -- when she wrote and recorded this song, but this throbbing, sexy smash proved she had staying power. As the follow-up single to "Any Man of Mine," she gave more props to those women who play hard to get. Considering how it all turned out, it's fitting that the last thing you hear are high-heeled footsteps marching through a slamming door. -- Craig Shelburne "Love Gets Me Every Time"Twain's 1993 self-titled debut album didn't sell that well initially and was no indication whatsoever of what was to come. When Mercury Nashville was preparing to release the follow-up, The Woman in Me, in 1995, certain individuals on Music Row were aghast that Mutt Lange had produced it. After all, with Lange's background as producer of major hits for AC/DC and Def Leppard, the so-called logic was that he didn't know anything about making a country record. I remember thinking, "Well, maybe he doesn't have a background in making country records, but he sure as hell knows how to make commercial-sounding ones." Admittedly, it could have gone either way, and I certainly didn't predict The Woman in Me would eventually sell more than 10 million copies. The formula Twain and Lange masterminded continued in full form on "Love Gets Me Every Time." It became her biggest radio hit, spending five weeks at the top of Billboard's country chart in 1997. Fiddles and steel guitar are prominent in the mix, and you have to smile a little when Twain repeatedly declares, "I gol' darn gone and done it." -- Calvin Gilbert "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!"Getting ready to go out for a hell-raising time, is there any better song to start a Friday night than "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!"? Though I'm originally from Michigan, this Grammy-winning song brings out my best Southern qualities for a really-go-wild, doing-it-in-style, country good time. Shania even took the pain out of girls' usual conferences of "what should I wear tonight" by providing a simple answer: men's shirts and short skirts. Genius. The best thing about being a man might be that you spend less time getting dressed and ready. But as Shania sings, the best thing about being a woman is the prerogative to have a little fun. -- Kay Savage "No One Needs to Know"I've appreciated "No One Needs to Know" for years. Perhaps because I'm a Scorpio, I prefer to keep a little mystery in life, especially when it comes to romance. Whether it's simply a crush or a long-term relationship, it's more meaningful to me to keep sweet moments private and not broadcast them to everybody and their grandmother. And in this song, Twain is quite smitten with the object of her affection, even singing of their wedding, the birth of their children and their future pet of choice -- which always makes me smile. The hit was on the Twister soundtrack and became Twain's third consecutive No. 1 single. -- Stephanie Pendergrass "Party for Two" (With Billy Currington)After hitting Lower Broadway in Nashville one night for some honky-tonkin' with my friends, we made our way to Lonnie's Karaoke Bar in Printer's Alley. After convincing my now-husband to perform a duet for all the lovely patrons at the bar, I signed us up for "Party for Two." Confidently (and probably due to a few shots of courage), I belted out every word, with dance moves. I glanced over at my partner as I belted, "I'M HAVING A PARTY!" Unbeknownst to me, he hadn't sung a lick and simply replied, "I don't think I can come" as he awkwardly squinted to read the words on the screen. Needless to say, we were booed from the stage. Perhaps Twain's songs should be left to the one and only. -- Whitney Self "You Win My Love"In this peppy song, Shania won my love when she breathlessly referred to her "classy little chassis." If you typed out all the lyrics, it would surely sound pretty silly. (A cool Cadillac with a Jacuzzi in the back!?) Yet when this flirty song topped the charts in 1996, she had all her fans driving faster and singing along at the top of their lungs. Come on, whooo! -- Craig Shelburne "You're Still the One" Criticism of Shania's romantic relationship with producer Mutt Lange inspired her to co-write "You're Still the One," and the sultry love tune became one of her biggest hits. The song was her breakthrough hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and the simple, undeniably catchy lyrics helped it maintain one of the longest runs at No. 2 in the chart's history. With its classic theme of holding onto love despite the odds, the opening lyric of "I'm so glad we made it/Look how far we've come, my baby" set the tone for one of the most memorable country love ballads of the '90s. -- Brian Rogala CMT

Ugh, I am really dying for new music from her. I really hope she did in fact record some songs this past summer, because I don't know if I'll get the chance to see her in Vegas. :(

Shania Twain Song List: The SinglesBy JJ on January 4, 2012 Singer Shania Twain speaks on stage at the 2011 CMT Music Awards at the Bridgestone Arena on June 8, 2011 in Nashville, Tennessee. (Getty Images) Shania Twain is remembered as one of the most popular '90s hitmakers in country music, and (to be frank) one of the sexiest. Fortunately both her back catalog and her body have held up very well indeed. While some of Shania's later work didn't chart as high as her first round of hits, songs like "You're Still the One," "From This Moment On" and "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" are still staples of mainstream country radio. So for the sake of nostalgia and posterity, here's an abridged list of all Shania's many songs. We've kept this list cut down to just the singles for the sake of brevity, but hopefully you'll find it useful in creating your ultimate Shania Twain playlist. 1. "What Made You Say That" 2. "Dance with the One That Brought You" 3. "You Lay a Whole Lot of Love on Me" 4. "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" 5. "Any Man of Mine" 6. "The Woman in Me (Needs the Man in You)" 7. I bought her book when it came out in the Spring, and I really, really liked it. It's crazy to read about everything that she went though. It's like her life became 'normal' once she became a star, which is pretty much the exact opposite of the way you'd think it would go. I'm hopeful that an album will come out this year, but at this point, I fear we'll never get one.
