The debut album from Cults is pretty solid. "Go Outside" got 70 spins on Alternative last week. Don't know the official add date but this is a great track for summer.

Really been diggin this record, too. Also liked how they set up a bandcamp acct to utilize the bandcamp seo and advertise their pre-order. Smart move.

The video they made for this infusing themselves into the Jonestown cult from the 70s might be one of the creepiest things I have ever seen in my life.

Top 50 on Alternative: 62 49 CULTS Go Outside 85 68 17 0.105 Seems like this should have happened awhile ago. Anyhow, fantastic. :) The video they made for this infusing themselves into the Jonestown cult from the 70s might be one of the creepiest things I have ever seen in my life. I'm afraid I don't know the backstory. So while I obviously knew the footage wasn't from modern day, I have no frame of reference.

The Jonestown Massacre was a big deal in the late 70s. I became really intrigued with the backstory of Jim Jones and The People's Temple (the name of the cult) a few years back because Jonestown was constructed in the South American country of Guyana and I am half Guyanese. It is quite possibly the most sinister cult ever formed because of mass suicides that occurred on the Jonestown grounds. Cults actually infused themselves as suicide victims in the video. Basically, they killed themselves with cyanide laced Kool-Aid after the events of what you see in the music video. That's what makes it creepy. Wikipedia has a great summary of both The People's Temple and Jonestown if you or anyone else on the board is interested: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peoples_Templeen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peoples_Temple_Agricultural_ProjectHere is the music video I'm referring to as well:

Too bad this didn't do more than just barely scrape the Top50 on the alternative chart. But they've got some pretty catchy tracks left on their album. So maybe this won't remain their only appearance on the chart.

Was this played on a commercial or movie? I'm trying to figure out where I have heard it before.

Ironically, I heard this song on the radio for the first time today on the very day this topic was bumped. Made me think the song was actually being given a second push on account of a pop cultural appearance. Very infectious tune; I've been whistling the refrain all day long. Can't say I've heard any part of this anywhere else, although it was the first time I've listened to it without being distracted by the story behind its video.
