Sounds like this will err to the heavier side of their singles history (they tend to oscillate back and forth between the more musically edgier and the more melodic)
It may be an uphill battle for them to achieve a mainstream hit with this sort of sound this time around, however. It's certainly far from impossible.........but it's probably improbable............given how rock-centered acts suffer less representation than ever before on the Mainstream Top 40 at this point in time. Can you even really consider OneRepublic a rock group? I don't. I consider them a pop group with flourishes of light rock. And Maroon 5's singles this era have disposed of the rock influences almost entirely.
However, given it has been nearly five years since they've released a proper single from a studio release, there might very well be a groundswell of high anticipation intact that can wield mighty digital sales out of the gate. There's no guarantee of that, of course, since they were already declining commercially their previous album era anyway with the lead single "Call Me When You're Sober" being the only decisive hit that era, while "Lithium" and "Good Enough" went unnoticed and "Sweet Sacrifice" never became a breakaway hit at the Rock formats. So it's probably just as likely all the hype preceding the release will be considerably all for naught.
I think the present radio climate is highly unfavorable for a group (or Amy Lee, for that matter! ;) ) of this sort. However, the fact remains Lee has a distinctive vocal that blends well with Mainstream Top 40 as it does with Rock radio, and it was also suggested in interviews as of late that before re-structuring a number of songs to fit their core sound more, they dabbled with a lot of electronic and rhythmic influences............suggesting they're aware of some of the recent trendlines.
I feel the initial performance of this digitally can pretty much single-handedly spell out the overall fate of this release. That's what I'm predicting.

Based on the previews, it basically sounds like they're retreading on old ground.

Holy crap, this song is AMAZING. Definitely beats out anything from The Open Door.
If this doesn't smash, then there is something totally wrong with the world.

Definitely beats out anything from The Open Door. I like this...but I'm not in love with it. It's just good.

sounds like the same ole crap. I liked their first album but I was in middle school then and I grew out of it. I would like this if I was twelve but im not.
and mainstream not accepting rock is not the top 40s fault. Rock has been in a standstill since 2003. This song could very well have been released eight years ago, it just sounds dated now.

HOLY SHIT THIS IS AMAZING. Finally, a kickass rock song this year!
Honestly I'm glad they didn't change their sound, it's not like all their songs sound the same (well in my opinion lol), plus they didn't have a very good reaction when they went darker with The Open Door. To me this is right up there with the Fallen era. I absolutely love this.

As I've already said before, upon hearing the preview, this song will only be a colossal hit if it is able to generate intense statistical noise in the digital sales realm.
The sad reality is that rock music is almost completely absent from the top tiers of the Mainstream Top 40 presently, and the most likely songs to scale the charts that pass off as "rock" are really more in an easy-to-swallow, lightly Rhythmic vein (OneRepublic, The Script, The Fray) with the guitars notably swallowed out by keyboard effects.
I just don't see any way this song will chart high without torrential, steady iTunes activity. Especially when "The Open Door" had a sound well enough in the vein of their high-selling breakout record "Fallen" and could only produce one hit off the lead single "Call Me When You're Sober".

Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS its absent on the Top 40 chart because nowadays its pretty much an absent genre in general . Hopefully that changes but before the top 40 chart can accept rock, rock has to reinvent itself.

I love the snippet, but it doesn't sound like something that would fit CHR very well.

Yeah, I definitely don't see this working on CHR. Great song, though.

I kinda like this too, but I doubt this'll do anything on pop, It just don't have a strong pop hook compared to their previous lead single.

Yeah, it will do absolutely nothing pop. It isn't even that good. Evanescence basically died when they changed band members in 2002/2003 anyway. It has been downhill since.

After hearing the whole song for the first time, LOVE IT. But it is a bit too rocky for pop. But maybe it will do something. There seems to be alot of interest for this project.
