I've decided that "Monster" is my favorite from the album. That intro is just awesome. How did this album not do better? Oh, and "My Weakness" is about thirty seconds too short. Monster is so my favorite. And every time "My Weakness" comes on my ipod I always think the last chorus is the second, and then the song ends and I'm sad. Thank goodness for the repeat button.

I prefer his upbeat songs. From this album, "My Weakness", "Monster", and "Rooftops" are my favorites. And with the first album, it was "Written All Over My Face" and "Alright With Me." I like a lot of the ballads too though. "Blindfolded"

and I'm still sad we only have a thirty second clip of I'm Coming Over, I am still so in love with it. :'(

My favorite Kris songs:
Send Me All Your Angels The Truth Before We Come Undone Leave You Alone Loves Me Not The Vision of Love Better With You Live Like We’re Dying Can’t Stay Away Alright with Me Written All Over My Face
I really never expected to be a Kris Allen fan, but I loved his first album way more than expected. Thank You, Camilia isn't as good as the first (imo), but it's got several gems. :)

I can't wait for the show tonight. So glad I decided to buy tickets. I'm a little concerned with how full the venue will be, given the fact that it's pretty small and I was still able to get tickets last night. However, I'm sure he will sound great live! I even brought both CDs with me and a Sharpie in the hopes that he can sign them. #oldschool.

^My friend saw him when he was in DC a couple of months ago and couldn't stop raving about it. She said he was fantastic, and that he sounds even more amazing live than on CD. So I don't think you'll be disappointed at all :)

I'm definitely seeing him this summer. He's playing in front of a restaurant...so that should be fun.

Disappointed...will give my thoughts later. I just got home and have to be up for work in less than 6 hours. *sigh* So, he sounded EXCELLENT. That, I won't deny. But...did he sound like a few other people I have happened upon at a coffeehouse or any other singer-songwriter? No. I actually forgot he won Idol. I really wish he never tried out for that show because the place I saw him in was a 800 person capacity place that didn't even have a visible name. I think this is his natural habitat though...not an Idol stage or any big arenas on Idol tour. My gripes were really with the set list: he performed (somewhat begrudgingly, it seemed) only 3 songs from the debut album: LLWD, Alright With Me, and Red Guitar. All amazing songs, so no complaints there. But, I forgot how many great ballads where on that album, which is what made me ultimately like him in the first place. Speaking of Red Guitar, because of his injury, he was reduced to microphone stand-molesting and doing the hokey-pokey around the stage. This guy is REALLY goofy. He covered "Faith" by George Michael, mixed in with a little "Whoa-oh" from "Some Nights" and some of "We Are Young". Pretty cool, but I would have rather heard "Heartless" or "Let It Be". He opened with "Out Alive", during which he attempted some Feist-like multi-tracking of himself. It was kind of a failed experiment, tbh and no one seemed to get what he was doing. I just recognized it because i have seen indie bands and artists do it. His voice is more elastic than I thought, but there were some notes he kinda half-assed - the falsetto ones. From his new album, he also performed "Rooftops", "Monster", "Better With You", "Leave You Alone" (which was the BEST song EASILY of the night) and "Loves Me Not" with his tour opener, which was cute enough. The cover he chose (I wanted him to do "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera, for my friend with SMA, but he didn't - bummer) was "Waterfalls" by TLC. It was good, actually - really good. He did some ad-libbing towards the end and had his phone with him in case he forgot the lyrics, LOL. His banter was cool. Oh...he was HEAVILY medicated. I thought something was off but he admitted to it later, saying "Don't mind me...I'm on LOTS of drugs...legal ones, kids!" He made references to the car accident (was wearing a cast and a soccer scarf from Arkansas) a few times, especially when he said to make sure everyone was safe on the road after the show. He is a REALLY nice and genuine guy. I just had some gripes but I would probably see him again. Oh...his band was PRETTY BAD. I was shocked. They were very amateurish. Oh...I waited for like 45 minutes afterwards in the hopes that he would come out and sign my CDs. I felt like a damn groupie and I had to endure random "fans" who didn't even recognize The Vision of Love (Kris didn't touch this live, for some reason) playing over the loudspeakers. They were like "Oh, this sounds like Kris, but what is it?" Anyway, I saw some random people being escorted through the Employees Only door backstage so I thought maybe if I lingered enough, I would get my shot but after I saw the pianist roaming around and told him I wanted Kris to sign CDs, he said he would go back and see what was up and then disappeared so I just gave up. I wound up having to take a 20 dollar taxi ride at 11:30 to the train station just so I didn't miss my last train home at...12:10 AM, on a work night...so yeah, not too happy about the way it ended but again, Kris sounded great and was very energetic and engaging so, I shouldn't complain TOO much. #too late. /endrant.

@so Far Ahead, sorry to hear the night was kind of a bust for you, although it sounds like you got as much out of it as you could! And thanks for all of the detailed descriptions.
To me, it sounds like a show I went to last year with my sister, for actor-singer Bryan Greenberg. The women in the audience were going ape-sh*t for him.
Can't believe those floozies didn't recognize "The Vision of Love." The nerve!

Kris covered JT's "Cry Me A River" at a recent show (really horrible video, but not awful audio and it's really fun)

I would disagree about the band -- I think they are very good musicians who play off each other and Kris very well. Nothing amateurish about them at all. Obviously the dynamic for this tour is different since Kris can't play guitar or keyboards himself because of his broken wrist. The keyboard player, Andrew, was hired when Kris was injured, so he has only been working with the other guys for a couple of weeks.
It is interesting that Kris has dropped The Vision of Love from his set. He hasn't performed it even once on this tour so far. I'm not surprised he isn't doing more songs from KATA, because this tour is really to promote Thank You Camellia more than the first one.
Love that he is doing one song request every night. He has shown off his versatility with these. Besides Waterfalls and Cry Me A River (both of which were really good), he has done Let It Be, Get Back, Breakdown (excellent cover of the Tom Petty Song), When Doves Cry, The Scientist, Let's Stay Together, Ho Hey and Lights. If anyone is interested in checking those out, there are videos of all of them (except for Get Back) up on YT.
The tour seems to be going well. He has been packing the venues at most of the stops and I've seen several people who weren't really fans of his before say they are now interested in his music and in going to see him in concert. They seem to think that not being able to play an instrument has improved his stage presence.
He tweeted this morning that he was going to the doctor to get his wrist checked out. Hopefully it is healing properly. In one of his recent interviews, Kris revelaed that he broke four bones and tore a bunch of ligaments in the wrist, and that the doctor told him that the wrist would never be 100% again. But Kris said he doesn't believe that and is going to do everything he can to get it back to 100%.

Well, the band definitely wasn't good at MY show. Maybe they have worked out the kinks. The tall guitarist who reminds me of Ace was pretty good though. The drummer was the one that I thought was completely off the mark most of the time.

Got to see him at the Soda Bar in San Diego, CA last Saturday and it ended up being a pretty entertaining concert! The venue was pretty small (mainly a bar with a small stage in the corner) and the sound/speakers weren't the best during some songs, but Kris & co. sounded amazing and had some fun with the audience (participation, banter, "Happy Birthday" wishes). I think the show ended up being a little bit more than an hour (2 hours, if you included the opening act), but he did perform a lot of songs (mainly from "Thank You Camellia") AND he signed autographs and took pictures after the show! Setlist (order may not be correct): 1. Out Alive 2. Better With You 3. Alright With Me 4. Loves Me Not 5. Happy Birthday (Standard) 6. Faith/We Are Young/Some Nights 7. Red Guitar 8. California Dreaming (Mamas & Papas cover) 9. Breakdown (Tom Petty cover) 10. Paul Simon (New Song) 11. Leave You Alone 12. Monster 13. Rooftops 14. Live Like We're DyingEncore: 15. Seven Nation Army (The White Stripes cover) 16. Shut That Door

Saw Kris at The Hotel Cafe and at The Canyon Club. I'm already going through withdrawals. Kris is such an amazing performer who has come so far since Idol days. I loved the song set, except for the fact that he didn't sing my requests either night. I'll live though. I got a great picture with Kris who mingled freely immediately after the show. I actually love the small intimate venues because of this.
I hope Kris gets back to L.A. soon.

'American Idol' Kris Allen: 6 Stellar Covers From His 'Out Alive' Tour7:30 AM PST 2/17/2013 by Michele Amabile Angermiller Justin Bieber, The Eagles, Elvis Presley and The Lumineers are just a few of the artists the season-eight champ has covered on his current trek. Kris Allen won American Idol in part because of his clever reinterpretations of hit songs. Today, the 27-year-old Arkansas native is keeping the tradition alive on his “Out Alive” tour by including several fun covers on his set list. The season-eight champ, who injured his wrist in a head-on collision on New Year's Day, was unable to play guitar for the first part of the tour, but being the consummate trouper, continued with the trek as scheduled and has been busting out his six-string despite the injury. As an added bonus, Allen is asking fans to tweet requests for each city the tour has visited, and the selections have varied from current pop hits to alternative and classic-rock favorites as well as standards. The only exception: Valentine's Day, when he got romantic with Elvis Presley's "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" -- a song he selected as a dedication to his wife, Katy, who is pregnant with the couple's first child. Ever the musical chameleon, videos of his requested songs have popped up all over YouTube and the web. Here are six performances that stand out: A request like this is a no-brainer for Allen's supple vocals, and he did not disappoint with this haunting and sexy cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." While in Sacramento, Allen had a little fun with Justin Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me" by giving the ballad a reggae twist. When in California, it's always a good idea to cover The Eagles, so Allen obliged with this fun take on "Take It Easy." Even without the guitar, he captured the spirit of the song, incorporating his bandmates on harmonies. For this Ryan Adams track, "Oh My Sweet Carolina," Allen chose to bring out opening act Jillette Johnson for an alt-rock duet. Allen had a blast with this version of "Ho, Hey" by The Lumineers, which he performed in Decatur, Ga.

His show was incredible! The most exciting part to me was that he performed My Weakness, because I remember reading the setlist earlier and it wasn't on there. So that was a nice surprise. He also performed two new songs, the first called "Unique" which was posted above, and another that he didn't give a name for. The unnamed one was great, it was a catchy upbeat song. And then I got to meet him after the show and get a picture and his autograph so that was pretty cool.

Kris had to have more surgery on his broken wrist this past week. He tweeted that he will have some permanent loss of range/motion in the wrist, although he will be able to play guitar and piano once it heals. This is actually the first of 2 surgeries -- a more extensive one is scheduled for later this summer.
How this affects his plans to get back into the studio is not clear. He does have some more tour dates in June, and it appears that he will be doing those.
And, of course, he & his wife are having their baby boy in July.
