Chicago's station is awful. They're ungodly late in picking anyone up. Last few times I checked, the top songs on their playlist had already peaked. When I was in Chicago 2 years ago, I swear I head WUSN play the same song twice in 2 hours. If I remember correctly, they weren't playing Welcome to the Future at ALL the week it was at #2. Also, they just referred to Dust on the Bottle as brand new.

This is now Eric's highest charting single. It's easily my favortie single from him since his debut album but I still think everything past that album pales in comparison. There was something so refreshing about that album, 'Carolina' and "Cheif" were both dissapointing for me.

I actually have heard this on the radio a couple times and found it surprisingly tolerable, whereas all of his past singles have been cringeworthy station-changers. I'm still no fan of this by any means, but I have more capacity to withstand the song and wait it out, rather than scrambling for the dial. After seeing him open for MirLam last year, I had a newfound dislike for his music and his personality. Everything about him just turns me off.

I used to really like EC, but more and more lately I'm leaning more toward your views. Ugh, when he wore his sunglasses on the Opry to perform this a few weeks back, it just really left a bad taste in my mouth. And I get that the Opry is the best showcase for every country song and artist out there, but that just seemed so arrogant to me. And that's how I've felt about him for the past two years or so. Ah well. I do like this song, though. But, since he's from NC they are killing it for me around here. It's on all the time, and one DJ proclaimed that he wished he could only play that song all the time. Man alive.

Just in case you didn't know, Eric has said he wears the sunglasses because the lights from the stage once melted his contacts. I don't think he wore them to be disprespectful. He could be wearing them just to be cool but he has mentioned this reason before, so I'd be inclined to cut him some slack.

I'm slightly fascinated by that statement, but I'll (try to) give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm just not buying into all the hype anymore. Although, I do love Springsteen, and will glady cheer that song up the charts. Yes.

Here's the excerpt from the article at The Boot last year www.theboot.com/2010/11/12/eric-church-tour/I guess it's become his signature now, but hey if it works for him and avoids any pain, more power to him :) How do you prepare for a show? When I go on stage for my own show, its hat and sunglasses and there's a different edge to me. That's just how I do it. The glasses thing is funny because I have a contact issue. When I used to play clubs, they used to bake my contacts and they'd pop out, so I started to wear sunglasses. Then it became my thing. It became something that I enjoyed and the crowd enjoyed.

I don't think I could ever wear contacts. I mean, getting them stuck under your eyelid, putting them in wrong, etc. etc. It just looks like such a big hassle.
That, and my eyesight is so bad that I think glasses are my only option.

I tried out contacts and I just couldn't get the little buggers off my eyes, and it just didn't work out for me at all. I need something to be done, but I don't want glasses, so I'm kinda just making due at the moment, since my eyesight isn't bad enough that I can't function without them (I can still drive, see the board in class, etc.).
As for Eric Church though, I think that's a really interesting reason to wear sunglasses on stage, but I can't help but feel like that plays less of a part than he wants to make it seem. I think the sunglasses are more for the image than anything else, and there are other options he could've gone with. He's the only artist who always wears them on stage, and I know there has to be other country artists who have to correct their vision as well, in which case removing them is probably a better, more popular option.

I don't see why it's a big deal. If the sunglasses are part of his image then so be it! He likes it, his fans like it! I don't really see how it's any different than Zac Brown always wearing a stocking cap, or Rodney Atkins always wearing a baseball cap. Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, and others always seem to wear the same type of hat. To me the sunglasses are just another accessory.

There is so much expression in some artists eyes when they are singing that I enjoy. This. I saw David Nail last weekend, and he wore sunglasses through the show. However, it was late afternoon, and the sun was directly in his eyes. I'll give him that one. :) That being said, I was not at all impressed with his performance, and found myself wishing I *could* see his eyes, to at least see where he was looking and various expressions. If I'm going to wait around all day to get up front for a show, then I want to feel like I'm in some way connecting with that artist, whether it's through eye contact, points, high fives, a mic shoved in my face, etc. It's difficult to have that connection with an audience if the audience can't see where you're looking. I don't know. To me, there's a disconnect, is all. And it's entirely Eric's prerogative to wear them and that's totally fine. Some people will be into it; I'm just not. And I'm okay with that. Bono and Roy Orbison totally earned the right to wear theirs. ;)

I don't understand the fuss about wearing sunglasses myself.
Look, I agree that there's something unmatched about the expressive and emotional quality of non-verbal body language projected by the singer onstage. I understand that argument to where one prefers a singer to bare the windows of their souls in a live setting than covering them with shades, for while it may not be intentional, it nonetheless comes across to some as a facade.
But beyond that, sunglasses are simply another choice of accessory. Before Judas Priest emerged heavyweights in commercial rock, wearing leather in a live setting was considered taboo to many. Now, virtually everyone is sporting leather. Skullcaps are also becoming quite an emerging trend now, along with motorcycles and spiked stud bracelets.
I, myself, confess to wearing sunglasses often when I have no incentive to with regards to the relative lack of sunshine in the Pacific Northwest eight months of every year. Which says a lot because I'm also one who values non-verbal communication and never wear them when speaking to someone one-on-one. And the reason why I wear sunglasses frequently in public is because I feel they serve as a fitting metaphor for how the way society and culture is molded and shaped up often misunderstands me, and so I wear them to signify a facade between the reality I express and exhibit and the reality projected.
In addition, I shift my choice of sunglasses from day to day depending on my temperament and emotional patterns. For instance, I like to wear my novelty hand-cuff glasses when I feel stuck in any given situation, or at an impasse, as though I'm incarcerated in the moment. Conversely, I like to wear my yellow-tinted glasses when I'm in an especially positive state of mind. And so forth.
I'm not necessarily suggesting Church's intention for donning shades regularly runs that deep or has that deep metaphorical conveyance, but I share my example to put into perspective how accessories help to shape artistic personas.
Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS

I know that Xmas has come and gone.....Which means that songs will gain alot......+1035 right now for Eric Church. :o He wants that #1 badly, which might hurt David Nail, even though Nail is gaining rapidly right now.

^The bullet is way high, but everyone is up about 400 spins more than they would be, and in some cases it's even more than 400, because they gained back a lot of airplay lost over Christmas. Normally the bullet wouldn't be so high.
And it's not like we're seeing a huge push from Eric anyway. He was the Greatest Gainer for last week, but that's mostly because songs near the top lost the most spins over Christmas and thus had the most to gain back. He does gain 150k today, best in the top 10, on an unusually slow day all across the chart. Also, Eric co-hosts CC-USA with Lon Helton this coming weekend, so he could get a push this week, but I'm thinking that with David at #2, and a decent lead over Eric, that MCA will try to sneak David up to #1 this week now that the ZBB is falling, and Eric can follow David.
Maybe Eric won't wait but I don't see a huge rush just yet. David co-hosts CC-USA the week after Eric does, so maybe it will go Eric and then David, but it could just be that Eric got booked for the co-hosting before David's team could book this weekend. I'm thinking that MCA would want David to go up as soon as possible because he's not going to be able to stay at #2 for very long, with his song being much older. If guys like Eric and Luke have to wait a week or two, they're much more capable of doing so.
Today was slow for everyone, so it doesn't tell us much. It will help to see the Billboard numbers tonight, and then in another 2 days or so, we'll have a much better guess at who will follow the ZBB at #1.

The ad in this week's BCU asks radio to "power up for #1". "Drink In My Hand" gained just over 6 million AI, and made up just short of 1 million AI on "Let It Rain". That song is now about 1 million AI ahead of "Drink...".
It's still anybody's game, but with Eric hosting the countdown this coming weekend, as well as how quickly he's gaining, I think he'll be able to pull out the #1 this week. It could be close though. We should know a lot more tomorrow morning.

^ You might be right, but I'm thinking that 4.2 mill is a lot for Eric to make up vs. ZBB, especially since the week started slowly for all the gainers. He could get there, but there's no hurry -- whereas if Nail's going to do it, he has only this week to get it done.
I'll give ZBB a 55% chance to hold on, a 35% chance for Nail, and only a 10% chance for Church. That's based on only 1 day of overnight MB data, so I'm projecting those percentages way too early.

Real Time Tracker: ZBB needs to go away already!! 5 weeks #1 is far too long. Let David or Eric take this.
P.S. I assume RTT is based on 1-day airplay from Monday? It's not a rolling 7-day chart?

I'm hoping that the ZBB's lead is based heavily on the fact that they made many stations' year end countdowns, while Eric/David likely didn't (or at least not as many).

^It's accurate, I guess, but I don't know much about it.
I'm looking at the audience updates from today only and trying to figure out Billboard. Everyone had a slow day yesterday and so I could maybe get behind Zazie's thinking/projections. But my gut is telling me something else. I don't think the ZBB will get a 5th week at #1...they lost 338k this morning and I think they'll be losing more as the week goes by. David had a tiny loss...not sure where he will go. Eric did the best, but a 150k gain isn't huge.
I don't think the slow days will continue. Maybe there won't be a lot of "movement", but I think songs will either start gaining more or losing more. I think EMI will push Eric pretty hard...we haven't seen much of a push or signals of a push from David's label, but Eric has "powering up for #1" ads out there and also co-hosts the countdown show this weekend. David still co-hosts the following weekend, but will he still be hanging in there? I'm not sure.
Maybe it could go Eric, then David, but it seems to me it would have to go David then Eric, otherwise David might not be able to hang in there long enough. Maybe the ZBB can still hang on but I don't really think so. And I think if it's Eric going up first, then Luke Bryan would instead follow him and David might get "blocked" and be held to a #2 peak.
