Not surprised this is underperforming. This is one of those cases of fans pushing for a single because it's different for the artist but the song not being the type of material that the general public expects or wants to hear from that artist. People want catchy dance Britney right now, not serious Britney over guitar production.

People want catchy dance Britney right now, not serious Britney over guitar medieval times flute production. Agree, but if fans wanted to her to release something different, Inside Out would have been more acceptable. The public and radio would have reacted better to it. PS - my 1,000 post after 7 years :o

Yup. What's funny is that she WOULD have been able to show diversity by releasing Inside Out, which, unlike this song, IS pretty radio friendly. I'm not "glad" this is flopping, but I'm certainly happy that this isn't the sMaSh!~~11 career defining hit most fans thought it would be. The song is probably one of the weakest on the record.
What sucks is that a fifth single is pretty much out unlikely now. Oh well.

Eh, despite its mediocre performance thus far, I'm still glad that this was chosen over 'Inside Out' (which has quickly become the most overrated Britney song ever). It's a great track with a solid vocal and a fantastic video. I like that she took a risk and released something that isn't expected of her. As for 'IO'...it may have a slower tempo, but lyrically and sonically it's just more of the same. No thanks. I'm seriously baffled as to why 'IO' causes so many Britney fans to pop a boner; it's the very definition of "average album track."

I have always supported Inside Out to be the "different" single of this era just because it seems much more immediate and catchier to me than Criminal. I also think everyone needs a dark epic ballad though where Criminal just seems like a lightweight version of a fast dance song. However, I doubt Inside Out would be performing much better and I don't even think a super fast dance song would be slamming its way into the #1 spot right now. It is a fourth Britney single from a dead cd. I still support them occasionally sending out something just a bit different for her. She can have every 1 out of 10 singles be something a bit different and it won't damage her career.

I originally wanted Inside Out as the 4th single, but Criminal has grown on me a lot. I'm happy now that they went with this, at least we got an amazing video out of it.

"Inside Out" would be doing worse than this, people. Please.

It sucks that this isn't doing better but honestly the album is pretty much dead and "Criminal" looks like it will at least sneak into the pop top 20 and possibly the Hot 100 top 40 which is decent enough for a 4th Britney single. I just hope they get the next campaign right from the start and really make it a big step for Britney and her career. I think a 4th quarter 2012 album release would be perfect.

Inside out is a masterpiece and one of the best songs she has ever recorded. IO > Criminal

With 30 stations having reported their adds, this is in second place as most added with 4 adds!

Inside out would have been amazing for a single. It is such a great song and so catchy!

I don't think any of the options for fourth single would have been a major hit. The first 3 singles struck me as the 3 obvious hits from the moment I first heard the album. That said, I can think of a few other choices that would be doing better than "Criminal".

I think a 4th quarter 2012 release would be great also, but i think her next album will be summer 2013.

oh god again? LOL
Britney’s UK publicist, Shoshanna Stone, Tweeted this inconspicuous message alluding to a possible Britney performance at the MTV Europe Music Awards. Or at least a rumor that will eventually get out of control only to let fans down. She said:
“I am officially ridiculously excited for the EMA’s now. There will be a performance which will blow everyone away including me!”

That said, I can think of a few other choices that would be doing better than "Criminal". "Gasoline" and probably "(Drop Dead) Beautiful" are the only two I could see doing better than this right now. "How I Roll" is questionable. Like P!nk's "Funhouse" it's just so out there it would either click with the audience or just not.

My vote would go to "Trip To Your Heart."
I'm probably alone in that, but it's my most played track after TTWE on the album.

It's top 50 on itunes at #49 . Hopefully it can remain steady and rise up a few places once Justin's Christmas tracks start falling.

Trouble for Me or Up N Down for the 5th single ;) It's very underrated on this album, but I think Trouble for Me has quite a bit of potential as a single.
