It has 11 spins on WMGS, 10 spins on WALK (a very popular station), and 8 spins on WMEE.

Good God! Is AC actually going through a format revolution?

They must be playing a watered down AC edit.

KGBY Sacramento just added this, and it is spinning quite frequently there.

They must be playing a watered down AC edit. Yeah, one sans the electric guitars, like they have done for several rock songs at AC radio (I forget exactly which ones, but I seem to remember that "The Reason" by Hoobastank was edited to fit the format.

I've heard the one for "The Reason." Anyone have the mp3 for the Hot AC edit?

This has 119 spins on the 7 stations playing it at least 7 times. It could realistically make the top 30 [Finger Eleven's "One Thing" is (still!) hanging on at #30 with 155 spins], but it's ineligible for New & Active because less than 10% of the panel is playing it.

It was at #34 on Billboard's AC Chart.

I made an "AC" edit of the song ("AC" is in quotes because I don't know what version they play) that takes the Pop radio edit and cuts out the instrumental break in the middle. It clocks in at exactly 3 minutes. "WAWO" snuck onto the lower reaches of the top 30 for a few weeks; "How You Remind Me" didn't chart.

Oh great. As if I haven't overloaded on this song already from pop and Hot AC. Well, at least a watered-down version would be something slightly different to listen to.

#28, 164 spins
7-Format Hit! Can't wait for Urban AC to take this to #1.

Back on the chart at #30, but with a mere 68 spins.

Back on the chart at #30, but with a mere 68 spins. If that's not a clear indication that AC needs to cut down on the recurrents and golds just a bit, I don't know what is. A couple years ago #30 always used to have two to three times as many spins and the panel size was, for all intents and purposes, the same size back then. It's not just the very bottom of the chart either; #20 doesn't even have 300 spins right now. And then of course there's the fact that it's been months since new and active actually had 5 songs.

I think the AC chart should be reduced to a top20 chart.

Or ease up a little on the recurrent rules, such as the 50/5 rule. So what if a song spends 70-some weeks on the chart? If it's one of the ten most played songs at AC radio then, by all means, it should remain on the chart. Tightening up the recurrent rules is not helping the chart to move faster; if anything, it could be slowing it down.
I have a feeling that before long, the AC chart will become extinct, since most AC stations are slowly evolving towards the oldies format.

It's unfortunate that AC stations spend all their spins on the top 5's and the recurrents. Changing the recurrent rule won't make any difference on the acceptance of new music... stations are going to play "Heaven" and "Breakaway" to death whether or not they are currents or recurrents.

Wow, I just looked at said chart and there were FOUR songs on it with less than 100 spins. I would be surprised if R&R doesn't reduce the chart size before the end of the year - maybe not to Top 20, but possibly a Top 25. At one time, the chart actually did only go down to 25 (starting in the spring of 1984 and lasting until October of the following year). I can see that happening again in the not so distant future. And, as I said, it probably won't be long before the AC chart is removed completely (or is just available online). That wouldn't really bother me, since the chart pretty much means nothing, especially with all these recurrent rules. A possible solution would be to remove the recurrent rule, or at least set some sort of a longer time limit on how long a song can chart (this would keep moldy oldies like "Every Breath You Take" and "Open Arms" from charting). Removing a song from the chart as soon as it reaches gold status would be a possible solution. Otherwise, we'll be having songs that are only played on a few different stations (most which lean Hot AC) and are out of format for AC.

Removing a song from the chart as soon as it reaches gold status would be a possible solution. Of course, that would mean Mediabase would actually have to come up with some sort of criteria for songs to go gold, as opposed to the seemingly random purges they do now.

Or R&R could just manually take out the songs that have been out for longer than a certain number of years (five maximum would be ideal IMO).

BB's AC chart is still a top 40. The #40 song has 21 spins. Cascada debuted at #34 on the chart with 26 spins. 82 stations make up the entire panel.
