Jennifer Lopez certainly has had some big hits. Since releasing her debut album, On the 6, in 1999, J.Lo has commanded pop radio with tracks like "If You Had My Love," "I'm Real," "Love Don't Cost a Thing" and "Jenny From the Block."
And she hasn't stopped. This year, she released Love?, featuring club bangers like "On the Floor." Now, J.Lo plans to give her fans a proper greatest-hits album.
"I just got the call a week ago that the greatest-hits album for Jennifer Lopez is coming up," vocal producer Kuk Harrell told MTV News. "Now I'm just waiting for them to put on the schedule [and] let me know what songs we're actually cutting and stuff like that."
While he didn't have too many details about what fans should expect on the album, Harrell did share who else Jenny is hitting the studio with. "I think [when] I find out what the direction is, I will definitely go in the lab. I will get in the lab with Tricky Stewart and The-Dream and see what we can come up with for it."
Harrell has certainly been busy this year. He worked with Rihanna on her Talk That Talk album, Justin Bieber on Under the Mistletoe (and will work with him again on his next album) and now has plans to hook up with Lopez. He's grateful for all the opportunities he's been given.
"I'm so fortunate to be able to work with Rihanna and Justin Bieber ... and Jennifer Lopez for that matter, so anytime a call comes in to work with the three of them, it's always 'yes,' because it's just assumed [it'll be good]," he said. "They're superstars, so how are you going to turn them down? Unless we have a scheduling conflict, but it's always a 'yes.' It's always an immediate 'we're gonna kill it.' That's when my competitive edge comes out. It has to be the best. It has to be better than anything we've ever done."

Another example of the music industry's move towards EPs.

Knowing J.Lo, this will be called Greatest Hits Part 1. LOL I wonder if this completes her Sony contract, and will they license "On The Floor," or "I'm Into You" or "Papi" from Def Jam? I would think yes, but Greatest Hits are tricky.

Of course it will be pimped on Idol. IIY and "Papi" weren't the biggest hits, so they may just license "On the Floor." Will they toss on at least one Spanish-language track? They could always swap out a track that peaked in the 30s (i.e. "I'm Glad") with a lower-peaking one ("Feelin' So Good"). 14 older tracks: 1. If You Had My Love 2. Waiting for Tonight 3. Let's Get Loud (not a U.S. chart hit, but I doubt they'd leave it off): 4. Love Don't Cost a Thing 5. Play 6. Ain't it Funny 7. I'm Real 8. I'm Gonna Be Alright 9. Jenny From the Block 10. All I Have 11. I'm Glad 12. Get Right 13. Do It Well 14. On the Floor Perhaps Sony will toss on "Louboutins," to give it an official appearance on a J.Lo album.

I'm not sure how great J.Lo's catalog sales are, but assuming that Sony doesn't mind cannibalizing them, I don't really see them leaving off any of her singles, and I would definitely include Que Hiciste (a remix perhaps) as well as Louboutins (like you suggested) since they did especially well on the dance charts. (Although, come to think of it, they could release a separate remix album, a la Toni Braxton or Deborah Cox which could cater to J.Lo's dance community, since she's had quite a lot of success on the Club Play chart.)

I don't think Lopez's albums are that strong in catalog sales, so Sony probably will put most of her singles on a GH album.
I'd be surprised if the GH sold more than her latest album, though. But, it is her first compilation, so who knows.

There should only be 1...not part 1 or volume 1. My list: 1. If you had my love 2. Waiting for tonight (the remix) 3. Let's get loud 4. Love don't cost a thing 5. I'm real 6. Aint it funny 7. I'm gonna be alright 8. Jenny from the block 9. All I have 10. Baby i love you 11. Get right remix 12. Hold you down 13. Hold it don't drop it 14. On the floor 15. I'm into you 16. new track 17. new track No Feelin so good (didn't work and forgettable), Play (forgettable), I'm glad (after it came out Sony was paying for this to be played even though it was #32 on the charts for like 6 weeks straight I don't think it needs to be there, do it well...chile

Why would "Play" not be on it and "Baby I Love U", "Hold You Down", "Hold It, Don't Drop It" and even "I'm Into You" be featured?

I wonder if there will be a deluxe version as well as a standard version. Maybe with a dvd of her videos.

Because it's my list, luv: ;) I'd prefer more memorable songs for the GH. Play...for me was one of those songs that did well off of a big hit but is so forgettable. You have massive hits like Love don't cost a thing, I'm real and Aint it funny...I forget about it really. I mean, Let's get loud was not a chart hit at all but I will remember it before play. Does it get played on the radio still? Maybe, I don't know. Hold you down-I actually like it but they waited too long for the dance mix. I remember hearing that spring uptempo mix and out of nowhere the dance mix just exploded a month after it peaked. Could have fared better. Love the video, wish it were released in the winter, though. It still is a good song that represents that era. Hold it don't drop it...I love it, I love Do it well because of the sample but is so forgettable and the video is tragic. I wish 'Hold it...' didn't follow up a flop single. Baby I love you actually did ok on urban radio and I like the r.kelly mix. I remember it.

Well I'm sure you could make a seperate thread for your favourite J. Lo singles. We were talking about potential album tracklistings and by any yardstick "Play" is/was more memorable than "Hold You Down" or "Hold It, Don't Drop It".

Oh there will definitely be some sort of deluxe edition with the videos. They are/were an essential part of J.Lo's success. Those videos for Play and Love Don't Cost A Thing were expensive and need to be recouped somehow!

I wouldn't need to make a separate thread. Neither would the other few posters that put their tracklisting of what the GH should be. I guess Play will be on your list...still won't be on my list. Today at 2:31pm, aaront wrote: This would also be my ideal tracklisting. I wonder if there will be a deluxe version as well as a standard version. Maybe with a dvd of her videos. I guess that would work but her Reel Me dvd had 75% of those videos...not sure if they would do it again but it wouldn't hurt. Sidenote: Reel me was the best video collection I have seen in a while.Oh there will definitely be some sort of deluxe edition with the videos. They are/were an essential part of J.Lo's success. Those videos for Play and Love Don't Cost A Thing were expensive and need to be recouped somehow! Haha...I guess they would need to recoup those cost for Play...considering how forgettable it was. Love don't cost a thing...I remember it. I wasn't sure whether JLO was a fluke with on the 6 but she brought it with Love don't cost a thing...still remember the Making the video. I wish they would still have that show on MTV :'( :'( :'(

Did Hold You Down do well? I think that's more forgettable than Play. I hope she promotes more because her AMA and IHeart performances were fierce.

-'Play' better be included -I hope they don't completely neglect the album version of 'Waiting For Tonight' and either included just that version or both the album version and remix (as a bonus track). -I hope the versions of 'Get Right' and 'Do It Well' are the versions without the rappers. -I would like 'Louboutions' to be included, just so it can get an official release. But... I'm excited! This collection is long overdue. I would love a bonus DVD, but if they do one, I hope it's like THE REEL ME where she talks about each video. 1. If You Had My Love 2. Waiting For Tonight 3. Feelin' So Good 4. Let's Get Loud* 5. Love Don't Cost a Thing 6. Play 7. I'm Real (Murder Remix ft. Ja Rule) 8. Ain't It Funny (Murder Remix ft. Ja Rule & Cadillac Tah) 9. I'm Gonna Be Alright (Track Master Remix ft. Nas) 10. Alive 11. Jenny From the Block 12. All I Have 13. I'm Glad* 14. Get Right 15. Do It Well 16. Louboutions 17. On the Floor 18. New Song 19. New Song 20. New Song *If two have to be cut, it's these

I also brought The Reel Me DVD package with all her videos a couple years ago, she made 8 or 9 more videos since then so I'd still buy the idea of an Greatest Hits/collection of her videos.
1. If You Had My Love 2. Waiting For Tonight 3. Feelin' So Good 4. Let's Get Loud 5. I'm Glad 14. Get Right 15. Do It Well 16. Que Heciste 17. On the Floor 18. New Song 19. New Song 20. New Song
That sounds about right!

I don't have much hope for Sony doing this properly. Remember that Christina Aguilera greatest hits album from a couple of years ago that was missing some very key hits? This will probably be no different from that.
This is my dream tracklisting: 1. If You Had My Love 2. Waiting for Tonight (Hex's Momentous Radio Edit) 3. Feelin' So Good 4. Let's Get Loud 5. Love Don't Cost a Thing 6. Play (feat. Christina Milian) 7. Ain't It Funny (Murder Remix feat. Ja Rule & Cadillac Tah) 8. I'm Real (Murder Remix feat. Ja Rule) 9. Alive (Thunderpuss Radio Mix) 10. I'm Gonna Be Alright (Track Masters Remix) 11. Jenny from the Block 12. Get Right 13. Que Hiciste (Radio Edit) 14. Louboutins 15. On the Floor (w/o rap) 16. Papi 17. New Song 18. New Song
"Alive" did pretty well on the Dance/Club Play chart, as did "Louboutins" which has not appeared on any of her albums (it was supposed to be on this album, but after it underperformed, it was scrapped from the album)
------------------------------------------------------
This is how it will probably turn out. Watch it become a Target exclusive.
1. If You Had My Love 2. Waiting for Tonight 3. Love Don't Cost a Thing 4. Play (feat. Christina Milian) 5. Ain't It Funny (Murder Remix feat. Ja Rule & Cadillac Tah) 6. I'm Real (Murder Remix feat. Ja Rule) 7. I'm Gonna Be Alright (Track Masters Remix) 8. Jenny from the Block 9. On the Floor (feat. Pitbull) 10. New Song 11. New Song 12. New Song

Didn't she have a GH EP/maxi-single or something that was an exclusive to a retailer a few years back? Could have sworn I read about that somewhere.

I believe "No Me Ames" should be on the tracklist as well. This song did well in the latin market back in 1999...

May I dare to predict that she will release the Greatest Hits around April-May (at the end of American Idol) just like she did with Love? and then goes on tour.

She needs to tour like now. It is long over due. Can you imagine a tour from her? My God. All those hits and her being such an amazing performer. It would be such an epic show.
