I remember her saying hold on tight was the first song she recorded for the album. It's one of my favorites too! Reminds me of shadow, less an amazing ad lib. That's the one thing it's missing. :)

William Orbit on the leaked 'Alien' vocals:
"Dearest Music Lovers,
I have heard that Britney vocal link that everybody’s been discussing. It has been impossible not to as there have been many comments directing my attention to it. (I won’t re-posting it here). I’d like to affirm that ANY singer when first at the mic at the start of a long session can make a multitude of vocalisations in order to get warmed up.
Warming up is essential if you’re a pro, as it is with a runner doing stretches, and it takes a while to do properly. I’ve heard all manner of sounds emitted during warmups. The point is that it is not supposed to be shared with millions of listeners.
A generous singer will put something down the mic to help the engineer get their systems warmed up and at the right level, maybe whilst having a cup of herb tea and checking through lyrics before the session really kicks off. It’s not expected to be a ‘take’.
I think that 99% of you reading this will totally understand.
Whomever put this on the internet must have done so in a spirit of unkindness, but it can in no way detract from the fact that Britney is and always will be beyond Stellar! She is magnificent! And that’s that.
Sincerely, William" (via Facebook)
I almost wish he'd kept his mouth shut, because he kind of confirmed that they were real. I get that he was trying to save face, but speculation would've been better for Britney than confirmation... Idk. I just want a B&A executive produced album now.

I just don't get why any producer would bother saving the "warm-up take"?

I need her and Danja to be locked in the studio together. The trinity: Danja, Bloodshy and Avant (whichever one is still working) and William Orbit

Ugh I just want a new, better era to wash out the bad taste this one left in my mouth, but I'm not holding my breath. I would love the rumor Kunt posted to be true, because even if she dropped one hot soundtrack song (NOT for The Smurfs), I would be okay. I just want something. I'm not used to being over a Britney album six months after it came out. When people talk about the lack of promo for the album, I honestly never expected any more promo than what we got. I just expected a better final product. She didn't do jack-s**t for Femme Fatale, but the final product was hot, and we got three radio hits and four music videos out of it. MTV Special (3 Songs) Good Morning America (3 Songs) Jimmy Kimmel Live! (3 Songs) 2 Billboard Music Awards Performance apperances (Nicki and Rihanna) At least it was something. I was at the Palms taping in Vegas at the time. When she showed up in the desert and did nothing when announcing Work B!tch I knew this era was going to be a dud.

This whole era has been a mess and waste of time but at the same time I doubt it'll hurt her legacy since it came and went too fast and went totally unnoticed. If and whenever the next lead single arrives and it's safe enough to become a legit hit, she'll be totally fine.

Also, it doesn't even sound like a warm-up...it sounds like a full run-through, her singing "full out" (for her), and it just totally sucks. I feel like warm ups would include some humming, pacing, skipping choruses, etc. (based only off of some leaked rehearsals/warm-ups of Kelly Clarkson for various shows...it's just sort of a lazy soundcheck where she does the verses, one chorus full out, tries a few things, asks for mics to be louder/softer, etc.). Besides, actual vocal warm-ups aren't singing whole songs, they are a series of exercises using scales and other vowel-specific sounds to get your voice, mouth, jaw loose and warm, etc. Basically, if you were going to lie about what they were, why not just lie and say that it's a manipulated track and not actually her? I guess this is why they haven't re-recorded any additional ballads, though. Too much time/money/energy to clean them all up.

I really have no comment because Britney never was for me to listen to for singing, I listened to it and honestly with all respect to Britney and her legacy, is this shocking to anyone? I love her for various reasons, songs, albums, performances and above all her personality but i remain unbothered about "oh we gotcha" moments of her singing badly.
It's like someone leaking me a clip of Mariah doing badly choreographed dancing and looking bad, meh. Not why i listen so i could care less.

It's surprising because Britney was at least capable at one point. She was never a particularly powerful vocalist in any regard-- you're right that that wasn't why people listened to her-- but the fact that her voice has taken this big of a hit over the years...? That is kind of surprising to me.
It's also kind of a blow since this album was marketed as "career defining" and whatnot, where she really showcases her vocal prowess and whatnot and we didn't get that at all. I think, as a fan, I'm more insulted than anything.

and I forgot to add that everyone has a bad vocal moment there are clips on Youtube of a young Britney singing and sounding better than a certain goat trying to do a legend's song "flips hair, bye"

Hell even great vocalist Mariah, Alicia, Aretha, Whitney and many others over the years deteriorated. So I can see how a okay singer can go down to not sounding right after 15 years or so. Now with the lipping from the start you would think it would have held up like Beyonce since they have been perfecting lipping from the start, but thats neither here nor there. Sometimes it can be a bad day and she could've still sounded good on another studio moment.

What is this discussion based on? are there some leaked vocals of Britney on Alien or something or is it the actual vocals that made the final cut that are being discussed?

Does anybody know that executive producer(s) for each album? Executive producer credit wasn't listed on her albums until Blackout. Britney Spears - E.P. for Blackout. Teresa LaBarbera Whites and Larry Rudolph - E.P.s for Circus. Dr. Luke and Max Martin - E.P.s for Femme Fatale. will.i.am - E.P. for Britney Jean.

Looks like her better albums are executively produced by not a producer. The executive producers of the last two albums overhauled the whole album. Oh well!

Is anyone really surprised that Britney can't sing? She never has been a good singer. I remember a televised live performance years ago when she was at her peak of some ballad that was cringe worthy. I also really don't understand how anyone can say that they're not here for her singing but love her songs, music, etc. As if she was actually a part of said songs, music, etc. In fact the songs and music are digitally manipulated to sound like the finished product leaving very little, if in fact any, of Britney on the music and songs. Don't get me wrong I enjoy some of the music too but I don't kid myself into thinking Britney is a part of it. She's a good or was a good dancer.

I've tried my best to stay out of this, what I consider to be, absolutely pointless discussion. However, this I can't let slide. Whatever you consider her to be - a good vocalist, a horrible singer, a music mogul, a vapid prom queen - arguing that she contributes nothing to her songs is just plain ignorant. It shows ignorance of what countless producers have attested to over the years. And it shows an ignorance of how pop music and pop culture work. As if someone could be so successful for so long by having no talent and contributing nothing to her music. I'm sure if someone else had sang Baby, Slave, Toxic, Til The World Ends...that they would have been just as huge, iconic and legendary. Please. That's not even getting into the majority of her discography, which is SO VERY BRITNEY that I can't imagine anyone else even singing most of the songs, much less finding success while doing so. And for the record, I love Britney's voice. There's no one else that can emote a song like she can. I love the tone and inflections in her vocal instrumentation. I think she CAN be a great singer, even in the traditional sense of the word, Alien "vocals" be damned. Just my two cents.

With all due respect, the term "manufactured pop star" was born out of truth and Britney epitomizes it more than anyone I can think of at the moment. Let's just agree to disagree.
