Note: As you can see, I've added a "weeks charted" coulmn, however, it may not be totally accurate. I've been taking notes from 20: The Countdown Magazine since February 29 of this year and there are three songs still on the chart that had already debuted before that week. Since Jon announced that Matthew West had been around for 33 weeks, I know one of them, and I believe Phillips Craig & Dean had debuted at #19 the week before, but I have no idea about the Tree 63 song. I estimate that it had been on the chart for four weeks, but it could have been more than that; conversely, it could have debuted the week before, for all I know. I'll try to get in touch with producer Brad England, who had answered my questions about the chart a few weeks ago, but I gotta be careful; I don't want to make myself a pest. I need to be selective with my questions. But eventually, both songs will be gone (the Phillips Craig & Dean song probably next week), so soon, the "weeks charted" column will be accurate.

MercyMe holds onto the top spot for a second week running. But how long can they stay there? Third Day looks poised to have the next number one song, as "I Believe" creeps one spot closer, up to #3. But, lately, I've noticed that many songs that hit #1 on the CRW chart stay at number two for several weeks before grabbing the gold, so it's possible that MercyMe could have a stay of six weeks (like two other songs this year). Or who knows, maybe Third Day won't have what it takes to hit the top spot. We'll just have to wait and see.
We knew it was only a matter of time before Nate Sallie fell off the chart with "Whatever It Takes", and this was the time that it finally happened. When I heard there were three debuts (and, as it turned out, one re-entry), I was thinking, "That's it; Nate Sallie has bitten the dust." Of course, I had said that several times before, so I kept wondering if he'd pop up later on in the countdown, but he did not. He, along with three other songs, one of which was last week's debut song, took the plunge.
I also kept wondering if four debuts meant that "More" by Matthew West had dropped out of the chart, but no - he remains on for week number 33 (as Jon Rivers pointed out as the song started). Earlier this year, I was thinking that Building 429 would grab top honors for the year (and they could still), but Matthew West could also have it. As I said last week, it's probably going to be a close battle.
There seems to be a trend lately of an older song re-entering the countdown after being absent for a week. Bethany Dillon started this trend during the two week hiatus of the weekly charts as Jon and his wife Sherry were in China adopting their little girl, with "Beautiful". It was #18 one week, dropped out to #23 the next week and the week after, re-entered the chart at 18. Then it fell out as Todd Agnew got a second wind and popped back in at #20 with his recent top ten "Grace Like Rain". This week, Phillips Craig & Dean make the encore appearance at #18. Each of the above songs, by the way, departed the week after their re-entries. If the trend continues, then Phillips Craig & Dean will fall out next week and another song will re-enter. And I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the re-entry was - say it with me - "Whatever It Takes".
My favorite song on the chart appears to be done. "Letters From War" drops four spots to #16 and will probably spend a few more weeks on the chart before dropping out. But, as I said last week, I'm getting tired of that song, so I don't really mind.
This week's chart seems to be split personality. While the top ten is relatively quiet, with very little movement, the bottom half seems to have a lot of action. One of the debuts, the Trevor Morgan song at #15, was originally going to be Jon's Future Favorite for this week, but it came onto the chart a little sooner than expected. So Jon had to go with Bethany Dillon's latest "All I Need" as the Future Favorite this week. (BTW, the JFF song last week is the Telecast song that debuted at #19 this week).
Well, we'll see how the new songs do on the chart next week. Since all three new entries are strong debuts, plus there are a lot of new songs moving up in the lower half of the chart, there could be a chart traffic jam in the ensuing weeks. It could be interesting.
