Dropped:
From #19: Soak It Up/Warren Barfield
From #20: Alive In Love/The Swift
MercyMe chalks up a seventh week at #1 in their 22nd week on the chart. Jeremy Camp leapfrogs over Third Day into the runner-up spot, and both of them are in the running to be the next number one song. Kutless and Bethany Dillon are coming up pretty quickly too, so MercyMe could have some serious competition in weeks to come.
Due to all of this competition, as well as listener burnout, I'm sure, Casting Crowns plummets eight spots to number ten after bobbling between number two and three for the past six weeks. One of the biggest drops from the runner-up spot I've ever seen (the biggest one was the 2-14 drop of "All" by Avalon back in late March, but that was back when the chart was messed up. I still suspect technical problems with CRW's monitoring system for the psycho chart moves back then.) Also, Steven Curtis Chapman drops from 5 to 9, and that song hasn't been around for that long. Its drop could be due to the competition. I foresee a tight Top Ten for the next few weeks.
Tree63 seems to be more than rising above the stiff competition, as it actually GAINS a spot to number six! And the song has been charting for 29 weeks (I recently found out the song debuted on February 14 at #9, the same week that "Leaving 99" debuted all the way up at #7). It's entirely possible that the song will outlast Matthew West's 33-week (or so) tenure with his monster smash "More". However, Tree63 has a new song out called "King" and I remember that Jeremy Camp was going strong in the Top Ten with "Right Here" and then he released his new song "Walk By Faith". Soon after that song debuted on the chart, "Right Here" dropped out from way up inside the Top Ten. "Blessed Be Your Name" could experience the same fate because "King" could do one of two things: overpower "Blessed Be Your Name" and make the song fall fast or suffer recurrentitis from the song. Which one will it be? We'll find out in due time.
The title of "biggest jumper" goes to By The Tree with their new smash "Beautiful One", shooting ahead four spots to number eleven. Jon said that they could break into the Top Ten next week, but if the competition remains like it is this week, that could be rather difficult (although Casting Crowns could fall out of the Top Ten next week, but who knows? Sometimes, after a huge drop like that, songs remain flat or even regain occasionally. That's what I like about this chart; it's unpredictable!
Depite lofty debuts a month ago, the new songs by Trevor Morgan and Jeff Deyo seem to be already on their way down. Of course, both songs have been sort of fluctuating over the past few weeks, but songs like that usually don't get too high on the charts ("Leaving 99" and "Letters From War", anyone?)
The Newsboys could have a hit on the countdown in the near future. Before getting into the Top Ten, Jon does a weekly feature called "Jon's Future Favorite" and this week, it is the Newsboys latest hit "Presence". And, judging by the Newsboys enormous track record, this song could join the list of their many big hits.
