From #16: Open Skies/David Crowder Band
From #20: Set Me Free/Big Daddy Weave
As Jeffster said last week, it looks like the blindfolded monkeys are back, because some of the chart moves do not make sense. The most notable, of course, is the drop from all the way up at #6 for "Here's My Life" by Anthony Evans. That song had been on for nine weeks, a little longer than "Beauty Of Simplicity", which fell out last week (and re-entered this week - more on that in a moment), but still not long enough to fall out just like that. I'm sure everyone didn't just decide, "OK, we're tired of this song, let's delete it from our playlists." Of course, it might re-appear next week.
As noted above, "Beauty Of Simplicity re-enters the survey at a much lower position than it was when it mysteriously disappeared from the countdown for a week. The question is, will the song climb any higher? Not sure; I'm wondering if its sudden surge into the top ten a few weeks ago after dog-paddling in the lower area of the chart for a month was a mistake or something. Its chartrun so far is quite erratic.
On the other hand, a song that debuted at number 20 a few weeks back re-enters the survey all the way up at #12. That's around where it would make more sense for Telecast to re-appear. The song, "Alone In Love" by the Swift, I heard for the first time today (remember - three weeks ago, the show was pre-empted by coverage of World Pulse Fest) and I think it's pretty good. How will it do on the charts? Well, since it debuted, fell out, then re-entered, who knows?
We have a brand-new number one song this week. "Here With Me" by MercyMe relinquishes the top spot after eight weeks to "Walk By Faith" by Jeremy Camp. Question is, how long will he hold onto the top spot? Third Day, who looked like a shoo-in for the top spot, might still have a chance. Plus, MercyMe could always squeeze in another week. Tree63 seems like a likely number one song in the near futute, seeing as it's already up at number four in just its fourth week on. Plus, we can't rule out Bethany Dillon either, although she drops a spot to number five. It could be any of those five next week and we'll find out in the coming weeks what happens.
Tree63 continues to hold onto the chart. It's at number eight for a second week in a row and it must have broken the record for most weeks in the Top Ten by now (remember - Matthew West's "More" was not in the top ten for all of its 33 weeks on). If they can hold on for three more weeks, they'll shatter the all-time record for most weeks on the chart. But you never know what's going to happen with the CRW chart - for all we know, it could fall out of the chart as early as next week, since the current trend seems to be at least one song per week leaving the countdown from inside the Top Ten. Then again, both songs that have done that over the past few weeks were relatively new. I predict that next week's Top Ten dropper will be "Fall Down" by Trevor Morgan (the droppers were also new artists, which rules out Steven Curtis Chapman). We'll see how close I am next week.
The biggest mover of the week is "Healing Rain" by Michael W. Smith, which takes a healthy six spot jump from 19 to 13. Could this perhaps be a future number one for Mr. Smith? He certainly is no stranger to the number one position, so it's entirely possible.
The former number one songs by Casting Crowns and Building 429 both look to be nearing the end of their journey on the 20: Countdown chart, but what a journey it has been for both of them! They have been on the chart for about a half a year now. They are definitely both going to ride high on the Top 20 of 2004, and Building 429 might even be number one, but, with Matthew West having spent nearly two more months on the chart, he could be the one who takes the gold. Tree63 should also make a respectable showing on the chart. I guess you and I will find out in a little less than four months what shows up on top.
