From #18: You Raise Me Up/Selah
A rather slow moving chart this week, but there are some points worth noting.
Jeremy Camp is at the top for a second week running with "Walk By Faith". But how long will Jeremy's walk at #1 last? Third Day's "I Believe" regains strength and moves back up into the runner-up position. "Beautiful One" by By The Tree remains at number four, but that's due to the tight Top Three. It could claim the number one spot and I don't think Bethany Dillon's exactly out of the running either. It could be quite a battle in the next few weeks.
For the second week running, the biggest mover of the week belongs to Michael W. Smith. He moves from 13-10 with his great new song "Healing Rain". I have no doubt in my mind about that song going to number one sometime this fall. Who knows, maybe Jeremy Camp will be able to hold on to the top spot long enough for that song to take the gold.
Tree63 is right back where they started from seven months ago. Jon mentioned that on February 14, the song debuted at number nine and that's where they are this week. When I resumed listening to 20: The Countdown Magazine on a regular basis, I had just missed that song. I tuned in right as Jon was introducing the number seven song "Leaving 99". Two weeks later, I started listening to the station and taking notes (actually, the weirdness of the chart induced me to do that and every week thereafter) and "Blessed Be Your Name" was at number eight. When I added the "weeks on chart" column to my weekly update, there were a handful of songs which had debuted before February 29, so I had to guesstimate the weeks on chart of a few songs. I figured that song had been on for at least four weeks. I e-mailed Brad England, the producer, and he said that the song had debuted on February 14. Well, as it turned out, I didn't need to e-mail him after all. Anyway, since that song peaked at number two and has been on for so long, I'd lay my money on that song winding up in the Top Ten for the year. And, it has two weeks to go before beating the record, set by "More" by Matthew West. Can it make it? I don't know - oftentimes, when Jon gives chart trivia for accomplishments like that, he does it on their last week on the chart and, with many songs falling out of the chart from inside the Top Ten, I wouldn't be surprised to see that song gone next week. We'll have to wait and see.
I had a lot of trouble hearing the show for awhile there, around the time the number sixteen song started. There's a classic rock station on the same frequency that is, I believe, somewhere in Michigan and as I neared South Bend, those radio stations intermittently came in. Driving through the city, however, the classic rock station became the dominant one. I knew then, it was time to hang a right and drive south so, as soon as I got to Highway 331, I headed south and pretty soon, Pulse FM came in crystal clear. Luckily, I never missed any songs.
Well, we'll see what pans out on the chart next week. Will Jeremy camp stay at the top for a third week? Will Tree63 tie the chart longevity record set by Matthew West? I'll let you all know in about a week. However, it won't be before Monday, since I found out from producer Brad England that next week's show is going to be a repeat of the Rich Mullins show that was originally broadcast on October 11, 1997. But, as we all know, the website updated the CRW charts on a weekly basis, even the ones that are pre-empted by specials.
