Me either. I don't think he can sing worth a lick, but clearly people watching X-factor liked him, so who knows?

It feels like a Travie McCoy/Mike Posner track, doesn't sound finished.

I liked the song when he did it live. Studio version isn't good at all.

He went from a progressive rock singer to a cheesy pop rapper? huh? this was his audition song for The X-Factor..this is the song he started with. This was the first glimpse of Chris Rene we ever got. I fail to comprehend how this a complete 180 from where you expected him to be?

When he was a teenager, he was in a locally-successful prog rock band, and he was the guitarist/singer. I did some research lol.

Lol I don't get why he went top 3 on X factor (and beat out people like Rachel Crow and Marcus) and I don't see him going very far.

Some pop stations are already playing it. It looks like he's going to suprise people like he did on xfactor lol! It seems lots of people get him. I didn't at first but totally understood why people were rooting for him after I listened to his pre-xfactor songs and I'm now a fan. He's really good at what he does. He's not copying anyone. He has his own style.

What we should be comparing the song to is his most recent work, not what he did over a decade ago. I'm glad they didn't alter his sound with autotune crap like the old version flying around on youtube. If you listen to his 2009 album and some unreleased songs, you'd realize "young homie" fits right in. He has a unique sound which I agree will not be everyone's cuppa but I think that, and the same tone of message his songs carry is what will make him very successful. It just hits home for lots of people. I made a playlist of some personal favorites of mine from what I've heard from him and I think they're really good for something he wrote and produced himself. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3A7D0E01CEA562EF&feature=mh_lolz

I kind of like this. :) I was a casual fan of his while he was on X-Factor (I didn't watch regularly though). While he isn't the strongest vocalist, I think does okay with what little he has. Vocally, he reminds me a little of Mike Posner, but much better. Not quite as raspy though. His rapper-who-can (kind of)-sing type of act would be set him apart from others out now. And that opens the door for a variety of musical output.
I would like to see this perform moderately well. I think it could go top 40 based on the buzz from his stint on X-Factor, but I can't see it doing much better than that. I am looking forward to his new album.

I never said he should be doing what he did when he was a teenager in any form, so I don't know where you got that from.

why the hate for the song here? I normally didn't enjoy Chris on the show; but when he auditioned with this song, I instantly was rooting for him for a while This song is going to be huge hit I think.

I think he's a much better singer than rapper, and I don't think his singing is very good. Astro blew him off the stage when it came to rapping. I just hope he's able to stay clean. If this takes off for him, it will be the fight of his life. Clearly people like him and identify with him. I don't get it. But, I'm willing to listen to what else he has.

I personally think he's a good singer because his voice is just perfect for the kind of music he does. TV SHOWS are just the wrong place for him since according to him, he has never done covers before lol! Every song he has performed on his shows , he wrote himself. Now, consdering that, I think he did really well on the show. He's just not good doing other peoples songs.
Most of his fanbase are not the usual idol viewers so I'd say he's lucky and that's why they "get" him IMO. They're not looking for a belter in him but love his pre- xfactor songs and the message it carries and I think that's what will set him apart and make him successful. Also, the kind of rap he does is different from Astro. Astro talk -raps, and Chris sing-raps. They're very different. His style is like many genres mixed into one. He's not your usual rapper that we see but I think his lyrics are amazing. And I agree with you, I can't wait to see what he comes up with, looking at all these huge producers he's working with. I think there's a lot about the guy that LA Reid got to see behind the scenes, that we didn't get to see on TV, because he really seem to believe in him.
This is an example of his sing-rap:

I don't get him at all. I don't think he can sing and he's a mediocre rapper. But he has a lot of support and his fanbase is pretty fanatical. So he could do quite well. Epic seems to be ready to push this hard to radio, that's for sure.

LMAO! Thank God lots of people get him and think he can really sing, at least better than many artists topping the charts these days. All this talk about whether he can sing is history because he's not a singing competition anymore lol! The real test now is whether he'll succeed in the business. Looks like his label and team think so. And I've read from many radio station sites who thought he was the real deal. So, it's all subjective and I love that they released this song. I can't wait to buy it next week!
