I splurged and bought the expanded deluxe version of "Purple Rain" and it was worth every penny. Is there any talks to re-issue any of this other albums? I could not find any news online.

I'm not keeping my hopes up but I'd love to hear Sign o' the Times the way Prince had intended us to, before being forced to cut an entire third of the album. There's so many unreleased songs from the Dream Factory/Crystal Ball/Camille sessions that could potentially see the light of day on an official release. While the albums that preceded it could maybe benefit from a simple remaster, some extra effort and care should go into a Sign o' the Times reissue.

No criminal charges are being filed in his death. Law enforcement involved say they have no idea where he got the drugs that killed him from, but that they were counterfeit Vicodin containing fentanyl.

If you told me ten years ago that by the time we got to 2017, Prince, Michael, Whitney, and George would all be dead (and especially how they died), I'd never have believed you. Other generations had tragedies too, but the brightest stars mostly lived around the median age. People like Elvis and Lennon were the exceptions for their periods. Sinatra was still going in the 90s. McCartney, Jagger, and Diana Ross are still around and getting honored. Every member of ABBA and the main Fleetwood Mac is still alive. Elton John and Billy Joel are still alive and playing in and close to their 70s. Ditto Stevie Wonder. The Eagles lost Glenn Frey, but the rest are still on tour. From the crop that became megastars for the 80s, it's virtually just Madonna, Janet, and Phil Collins (who puts this in even more perspective because he's older and recently came out of retirement in his late 60s, being almost a decade older than Prince at the time of his passing, while the other three were younger).

Prince Estate Partners With Tidal & Jay-Z for Vault-Driven Album Planned for 2019
NewsRecord LabelsLegal and ManagementDigital and Mobile
By Marc Schneider | May 11, 2018 1:55 PM EDT
Jay-Z is helping to pick out the songs for the album partnership, which ends the legal dispute between the two parties.
It's happening: new Prince is on its way. Tidal and Prince's estate announced on Friday that a batch of previously unreleased music from the late icon's vaults will make up a new album, expected to be released in 2019, with Tidal owner Jay-Z working directly with the estate on song selection.
Upon its eventual release, the as-yet-untitled album will stream exclusively on Tidal for two weeks before it is released in physical formats. It will also be available to download seven days after its debut, though it's unclear if or when the album will be shared with non-Tidal streaming services.
The agreement between Prince's estate and Tidal, which was approved in probate court on May 9, effectively ends a copyright dispute between the two parties over the streaming service's prior claim to streaming rights of Prince's catalog. Before his death in April 2016, the two parties came to an exclusive agreement to stream Prince's HITnRUN albums. Tidal believed it had an arrangement giving it exclusive rights to the artist's entire catalog, which was later disputed in court by Prince’s label (NPG Records) and publishing arm (NPG Music Publishing).
"Our only goal is to share Prince’s music with his fans as he wanted," said Jay-Z in a new statement. "After thoughtful and honest conversation with him, he chose TIDAL as his partner for HITnRUN Phase One and HITnRUN Phase Two, and we will continue to respect and honor Prince’s enduring legacy and wishes with this new collection."
Added Troy Carter, speaking on behalf of the Prince estate, "I'm very pleased this is resolved, and we get to honor the relationship between Prince and Tidal with this album. We look forward to fans hearing the new music and experiencing the genius of Prince."
Tidal and the estate were quick to note that the new album will not involve any of Prince's catalog that is under prior agreement with Warner Bros. Records. Last month, Carter told Variety that the estate was working on a "full-length album" project to be released by WBR as early as September.

Prince Estate Releasing Unheard 'Piano & A Microphone 1983' Album
News
By Gil Kaufman | June 07, 2018 7:17 AM EDT The Prince Estate / Allen Beaulieu
Record captured at singer's home studio is due out Sept. 21.
A previously unheard home studio cassette recording of Prince performing at his piano in 1983 will be released as Piano & A Microphone on Sept. 21. The nine-track, 35-minute project from the Prince Estate in coordination with Warner Bros. Records is planned for what would have been the rock icon's 60th birthday and it is available now to pre-order on CD, LP, deluxe CD+ LP, digital release and pre-save for streaming; click here to pre-order, and here for pre-save stream.
“This raw, intimate recording, which took place at the start of Prince’s career right before he achieved international stardom, is similar in format to the Piano & A Microphone Tour that he ended his career with in 2016,” Prince Estate entertainment adviser Troy Carter said in a statement about the project recorded at Prince's Kiowa Trail home studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. “The Estate is excited to be able to give fans a glimpse of his evolution and show how his career ultimately came full circle with just him and his piano.”
This rare, intimate glimpse finds Prince working through songs including "17 Days" and "Purple Rain" (which would both be released the following year), a cover of Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You," "Strange Relationship" (issued in 1987 on the Sign O' The Times album) and "International Lover," as well as a rare recording of the pre-Civil War spiritual "Mary Don't You Weep," which will be heard on the end credits of Spike Lee's upcoming film BlacKkKlansman, due out in August.
The album cover features a rare image of Prince backstage during the 1999 tour, taken by Allen Beaulieu, who worked closely with Prince from 1979-1984, shooting the covers of Dirty Mind and Controversy and the promo shots for 1999. The Deluxe version will include a 12" booklet with new liner notes from Prince's engineer, Don Batts, as well as never-before-seen candid photos of the singer. Fans who pre-order the digital download will get an instant grat download of "Mary Don't You Weep."
Track listing for Piano & A Microphone:
"17 Days"
"Purple Rain"
"A Case Of You"
"Mary Don’t You Weep"
"Strange Relationship"
"International Lover"
"Wednesday"
"Cold Coffee & Cocaine"
"Why The Butterflies"
Prince fans will celebrate what would have been the singer's birthday today (June 7) with a three-day festival in Henderson, Minnesota (where Purple Rain was filmed), which will include a bus tour of Purple Rain filming locations, a screening of the movie and live music. In addition to Microphone, the Prince Estate has teamed with Tidal to release a batch of previously unreleased music from the vaults for a new album due out next year.

A Landmark Legal Battle Over a Toddler Dancing to Prince's 'Let's Go Crazy' Looks to Be Ending
News
By Eriq Gardner, The Hollywood Reporter | June 07, 2018 3:53 AM EDT
All the way back in 2007, YouTube was still emerging as the go-to platform for video sharing. The website had just been acquired by Google for the bargain price of $1.65 billion when Stephanie Lenz would do something that would make legal history. Like many proud mothers, she posted on YouTube a cute video of her 18-month-old boy, Holden, dancing to the Prince song "Let's Go Crazy."
Few would have ever imagined that the legal dispute that would follow would last more than a decade and even outlast Prince himself. But that's exactly what happened, and now this landmark case could be drawing to an end. On Wednesday, the parties involved in this court battle informed a magistrate judge that they had reached a settlement in principle.
After Lenz posted her video, Universal Music claimed a copyright violation and registered a takedown with YouTube. Lenz sent YouTube a counternotification that her video should be reposted because it didn't infringe the label's copyright. The video was offline for weeks.
But Lenz wouldn't stop there. Assisted by attorneys at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which saw her ordeal as the perfect test case in the burgeoning era of social media, Lenz filed a lawsuit July 24, 2017 that alleges Universal had violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act by knowingly misrepresenting its copyright. According to the plaintiff, it should have been self-evident that the cute toddler dancing video was a noninfringing fair use.
The dispute marked an important if overlooked aspect of the legacy of Prince himself. For years, the musician was hot and cold when it came to digital services that exploited his works — and here, Prince let it be known to Universal that he wasn't happy about what he saw in the Lenz video. For this, Prince received the "Raspberry Beret Lifetime Aggrievement Award" from EFF in its Takedown Hall of Shame.
As for the legal battle, it was the kind of brain-twister that had judges issuing opinions and reconsiderations. At one point, the Supreme Court even wanted the solicitor general to weigh in — and the case became one of the Trump administration's first amicus briefs to the high court.
Most important was what happened at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
There, in September 2014, a panel of judges ruled that copyright owners indeed must consider fair use when sending takedown notices. But it wasn't quite the full victory that Lenz and EFF had been hoping to get. That's because the federal appellate court agreed with Universal that if a copyright holder forms a subjective good faith belief that allegedly infringing material does not constitute fair use, that's enough to shield the copyright holder from misrepresentation liability. The plaintiffs had wanted copyright holders to make a rigorous examination of objective criteria when dealing with the four factors that govern fair use.
Even in this decision, the 9th Circuit had to eat some of its words. Originally, it was suggested in the opinion from the panel that copyright holders could employ algorithms to examine fair use, but upon further consideration, the judges removed language on how algorithms could be a "valid and good faith middle ground for processing a plethora of content while still meeting the DMCA's requirements to somehow consider fair use."
After being invited to give input, the solicitor general told the Supreme Court that a "significant legal error" had been made, that copyright owners shouldn't be liable "simply because an unknowing mistake is made," but nevertheless advised the high court to pass on the case. In June 2017, with the dancing toddler now in grade school, the Supreme Court denied a review.
Still, there was plenty left to settle. A potential trial would have tested Universal's subjective beliefs about the video in question. Lenz could have gone to trial and used any discovery she obtained about Prince's involvement to try to show that the label knew it was wrong when it caused a takedown.
But it looks like no trial will be necessary.
A minute order put out by the judge indicates the parties have reached a settlement in principle, although it's reported that everything is contingent on final approval of language in the deal. An attorney for EFF declined to comment while one of Universal's attorneys hasn't yet responded to an inquiry. Terms of the potential settlement haven't been made public.

Wow Prince made it look so natural that I didn't think he practiced his dance steps over and over again. My mother always thought Prince was a much better dancer than Michael. Me being who has danced in the past think their both great in different ways.

Not something I'd usually say about him.. but he doesn't sound good on this. I wonder how he'd feel about these being released.

With someone as prolific as him, it shouldn’t be hard to curate expanded editions of all these albums including remixes and unreleased tracks. Some of the original albums need remastering too.

He was against remastering because he thought it killed the sound, but I think if anything his catalog would benefit from it going by Purple Rain, which I believe he approved of personally, so he was coming around to the idea. The stuff from the early 80s especially.
I think rollouts similar to what the Pet Shop Boys and Phil Collins did where they released multiple ones simultaneously would be great.

I'm still irritated that they haven't re-issued his Warner TAFKAP material (I'm aware that most of it is on TIDAL). I actually love TBE, Come, TGE, and Chaos & Disorder (which all come from the same set of songs/material btw, and I know Come is still widely available)

TGE is one of his best post-'92 efforts. It had the misfortune of being released exactly when material like it was at its lowest point of popularity in the 90s, but it's a very inspired and effective album.

PRINCE'S HEIRS: TIDAL PLAYS DIRTY ... We Want Out of Deal!!! The heirs to Prince's fortune are calling out Tidal for allegedly lying about streaming data, and they're so pissed about it ... they want to pull the plug on a lucrative deal. The attorney for Sharon, Norrine and John Nelson blew the whistle on Tidal with the probate judge in Prince's case. In a letter, obtained by TMZ, they say Tidal's been accused of "inflating the streaming numbers" for Beyonce's "Lemonade" and Kanye West's "The Life of deleted," a claim that has reportedly been denied by Tidal CEO Richard Sanders. They say Tidal allegedly boosted the numbers by several hundred million streams ... which would jack up the royalties paid to Bey and Ye. The heirs are asking the judge to reconsider the order that granted Tidal exclusive streaming rights for an upcoming album of unreleased Prince music. They say they don't want the estate getting caught up in the streaming service's legal problems.
