I can't even make a poll because I have no idea...but who would we like for the halftime show for Super Bowl XLVII?
I'm going for Cher all the way.

CELINE DION!!!!111!!! /joe (Nah; I'd probably hate it because the internet would jab at her the entire time, lol.)
Florence + The Machine or Kelly Clarkson would be great. ETA: Now that I think of it, while they'd be great, perhaps they aren't the most "logical" choices...I'd love to see Coldplay do it, though. I imagine Foo Fighters or Springsteen would be a good choice as well, though I'm not personally much of a fan of either.

Want? Carrie. However, since that wouldn't happen (and neither would Kelly, The Script, or some of my other favorites), I'll bank on one of these getting the slot:
-Lady Gaga [cue the dramatics] -Beyoncé -maybe a large hip-hop or rap star, a la Kanye, Jay-Z, etc. -Kenny Chesney
I can't think of many legendary acts that could still put on a show as extravagant as the halftime show.

The Black Eyed Peas aren't legendary and they did it last year... or the year before? I don't remember... I don't think it's completely impossible for someone like Carrie to do it, especially if this upcoming year is as big as I think it will be. I don't think she'd be asked to do it alone as she isn't widely known enough - but if she were joined by someone like Steven Tyler, or another huge name, I could see it happening. If not next year, sometime in the future. With that said, some of my other choices would be; Kenny Chesney, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey(?), or Beyonce.

I'm pretty sure we've talked about this before, but I guess I'll reiterate my stance on this. The Black Eyed Peas have made more of an impact than Carrie, they've been around longer, they have more international and publicly-acclaimed hits, and they've sold much, much more than Carrie. Although I loathe TBEP and every aspect of 95% of their catalog, they are a much more logical choice than Carrie.

I despise them too, although I like Fergie as a solo artist. I honestly don't think Carrie would do it next year, but sometime down the road I don't think it's out of the question. However, I could see Taylor Swift doing it within the next few years. She's the biggest thing since Shania in terms of Country on a global scale, so she's another choice in my opinion. Not my favorite choice, but choosing her would make sense to me.

Coldplay,AC/DC[NFL likes to pick older acts],Rush,Bon Jovi,Guns N'Roses,Poison
I'm sure another Classic Rock Band will do it.The NFL leans more towards older acts.I don't think the NFL will try another younger act after the BEP mess a year ago.
As Much I love Taylor Swift to do the halftime show, chances are silm she will get picked to do the show.

Beyoncé would be a great choice. She's the Performer of this generation and after headlining Glastonbury, it's proven that she has the charisma and the stature to do pretty much anything on stage.

I wouldn't be surprised if they avoid having a pop star perform next year after this middle finger fiasco.

Now that someone brought up Bon Jovi, I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened yet and can definitely imagine a Bon Jovi halftime show.
I agree that they won't bring a Pop star for a while because of the M.I.A. fiasco, which is really corny because only in the US would something that minor be a major news headline or future consideration. Okay, maybe not only in America because I could see the same happening in Saudi Arabia maybe.

Instead of just one act, how about a team of young, popular, crowd pleasing singers? Kelly Clarkson, Ke$ha, LMFAO, Rihanna etc. would all come out and sing 2 or 3 minutes of their latest US hits. And, as the closing number they would get together to sing an old American classic (Bruce Springsteen or something). People would get to hear the biggest hits of the year, and there would be no huge pressure on the artists.
(I get the inspiration from this year's LMFAO, the crowd reacted really well to Party Rock Anthem.)

If they could gather a few of 2012's biggest stars and put on a big show full of medleys and duets - that would be sick.

The half time show is meant to appeal to all generations. Also, if you look back on past performances, it's mostly songs that are already classics or on their way to becoming a classic. People go back and watch halftime shows for decades after they occur, and it's rare to find a song amongst past performances that were just a passing moment in time. Most songs currently on the Pop chart end up being forgotten after a year or two. Many artists fade into obscurity after a few years. I don't think it would be appropriate for the half time show to feature flash in the pan acts. The show is there for icons. Black Eyed Peas' is as disposible as it gets as a headliner.

Yeah, usually they go with older established acts that everyone knows/recognizes. The Black Eyed Peas were kind of out of the blue.

Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl's name alone could bring in a slew of awesome surprise guests.

Totally forgot about Coldplay. That could be a great selection!
I'm expecting Gaga to be the performer within the next 2 or 3 years, though. As long as she continues to spew out more radio candies that people bite at, she's golden for a 6-8 song setlist that could make for an awesome show.

Country only has regional appeal. Halftime artists usually (and should) have a widespread appeal.

Country only has regional appeal. Halftime artists usually (and should) have a widespread appeal. The majority of the demographic who watch the Super Bowl would rather watch a country performer for halftime than a pop diva. Country music is also the most listened-to radio format in the U.S., so it has a lot of widespread appeal.

Country only has regional appeal. Halftime artists usually (and should) have a widespread appeal. On an international basis I'd concur with your point, but the Superbowl is an American event. Country music is an American genre. As was posted above, Country music is the most listened to genre in America. In the United States, Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire are VERY well known. Country tours in the USA tend to put up the best numbers behind touring legends like Springsteen, U2, Bon Jovi, etc... Last year for example, Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney ranked 5 and 6 among Billboard's list of top tours in 2011. My point being, Country may be regional on an international level, but in the USA, it's everywhere.
