RCA did not feel this way, but I would assume most people who have listened to the Breakaway album agree that it is worthy of six singles. Hear Me is one of my favorites on the album, but I never felt it was singles material. Walk Away is a mediocre pop song, so as much as Kelly may like it I never felt it was singles material either. It comes down to the two Pop-Rock songs. I feel Addicted has the greatest chance of being a smash hit, so it should have been fifth with Gone being sixth. The album would have sold at least 1-2 million more copies and would have solidified Breakaway as one of the greatest pop albums of all time.

Gone first! (which Z100 jumped on, but then was forced to switch over to Walk Away). Then Walk Away.
...and then, Where Is Your Heart (which several AC stations had already been playing).
No Addicted, and no Hear Me.

I just don't think Where Is Your Heart would have done anything on Top 40 stations so I never really considered it an option. If they wanted to release it on AC stations it wouldn't be a problem, but I think that's the only format it would have had a chance on. As great as the album was, I don't think I would have released seven singles. That is overexposure that could have hurt Kelly for the next era.

It was as much Kelly as RCA that brought that era to an end, she needed a break. Given the amount of momentum Kelly had at that point, do you really need to do promotion? All you'd have to do is the music video. It depends on what gets released, but I don't think Addicted or Gone needed promotion at that point.

I always HATED Walk Away as a single. Fun song, I loved the video, but the song does nothing for me. Til this day I have never been able to get into it.
