It's such a crime how huge Deana Carter's debut era was and then how fast her star faded. Such a shame. She's still one of my favorites and I've always loved her voice. She really should've been a big star. :'( No kidding! Her album "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" was beyond impressive, beginning to end. Then she released "I'm Just A Girl", and while it wasn't as great as the previous album, I thought it was still strong. I would love more music from her. Her voice is gorgeous. Deana does have suh a gorgeous voice, I've always wondered why 'Evrything's Gonna Be Alright' didn't do as well as her first album. My favorite album from her was EGBA, but all 5 are really great. Also the ep I have from her that wa sreleased inbetween EGBA and 'I'm Just A Girl' is really good too.

Im not sure if you are talking about their singles or not but their version of the Merle Haggard classic Fighting Side Of Me was only available on ''Playlist: The Very Best of Brooks & Dunn''. I think there first greatest hits disc and a few new songs too. And then they had quite a few songs on Tribute albums over the years. Including Best Of My Love from the Common Thread Eagles tribute album, I Ain't Living Long Like This from the Ive Always Been Crazy Waylon tribute album, Against The Wind from the King Of The Hill soundtrack , Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down from the Mamas Hungry Eyes A Tribute To Merle Haggard, Ride 'Em High, Ride 'Em Low from the 8 seconds Soundtrack & Folsom Prison Blues with Johnny Cash on the Red Hot + Country compilation album.

Deana does have suh a gorgeous voice, I've always wondered why 'Evrything's Gonna Be Alright' didn't do as well as her first album. The album wasn't as commercial as Did I Shave My Legs for This? and I remember reading an article once that had her quoted as saying that when she first played the Everything's Gonna Be Alright album for the new president who replaced whoever was calling the shots during the Did I Shave...? era, he said he "didn't get it" and basically didn't support the album. Then, she spent the next three years trying to get another album out, but her label continued to change presidents a total of four times and basically she had to leave if she wanted to pursue her career. So, it was basically her label screwing her over. She was practically given the equivalent of the "Curb treatment" of today. :'(

As for Deana, I loved her debut, but felt that something was missing on her second album. It did have its share of really good songs though ("Ruby Brown", "People Miss Planes"), and it's a shame that it didn't do better. I agree that her third album wasn't great, but there were a few really good songs on it as well. Her debut is easily her best, imo, but I haven't heard The Chain.

^I'd forgotten the details about Cowboys Don't Cry. It was initially released as the final single from Cowboy Town (their final studio album). While it was climbing the chart it was replaced by the re-recorded version with Reba (which, as you mention, is only on the #1s compilation). This seems similar to I Told You So initially being released as a Carrie Underwood solo record, then being replaced by the Randy Travis duet version while climbing the chart. Ready, Set, Don't Go followed the same pattern (Billy Cyrus solo version replaced by the duet with Miley during its chart run).

I'd pass on The Chain unless you're a really big Deana Carter fan (which you don't seem to be). You oughta check out The Story of My Life though. It's more of an alternative country album, so it's not for everybody -- but you may find it similar to the second/third albums in that there's some standout tracks on it.

Ronnie Dunn has been shopping a brand new CD to some labels in Nashville and he says the meetings have been rather encouraging. One of the new songs, "Country This", can be heard on his SoundCloud page here. It's definitely an edgy rock song which Ronnie has admitted himself, but he says there are a lot of more 'country' sounding songs on the album as well.

I tought Cowgirls Don't Cry was mediocre, myself. I also thought the Reba version was jarring because of the HUGE change in keys for her verse — it just stuck out like a sore thumb. Even worse, it just sounded like they artificially pitched up the music for her verse. (And why is she singing a line clearly from the dad's perspective anyway?)

^I watched it last night. For the people who are fans of Mindy McCready here, don't be mad, but I had never heard of her until I read about this suicide. I never really followed or listened to much country music until the 2000's, and judging from the special, she was popular in 1996 and 1997 and quickly fizzled out.
It truly is a sad story. She lived a very hard childhood for sure, and honestly, it looks like she just was not ready for fame at a young age. She needed to go to college, find out who she is, and visit a therapist to talk to about her childhood. Then, she could tackle her music dreams (Yes, she may never have made it otherwise, but so be it). She obviously wanted attention that she never received at home; therefore, she latched onto it when she got famous. Then, she let fame go to her head at the wrong time, during the crucial sophomore record. After that, her selection in guys were completely wrong, and she did stupid things. She needed rehab, but participating in an MTV celebrity rehab special is not the way to do it. Things continued to spiral out of control, and that was it.
Very, very sad. I think it's even more sad that her children are left without parents. I know she has lived a hard life, but she really should have thought about her children's best interests. I know that's easy to say, but still...

How's "Lindy" off Kenny's new album? Don't have Internet this week to stream in Cancun but apparently the pre-order for the album just went live and you can get that song now.

You were talking about Deana, she's actually mixing her new album and said she'll try to release at the end of summer. Let's see!
