okay so I don't know if this is allowed or appropriate, so delete it if its not, but I thought maybe it'd be cool to have a thread where we can discuss the current songs that are singles on formats that we think SHOULD be sent to CHR/POP. With so many alternative/smaller-name artists starting to get pop airplay, the sky is seemingly the limit.
Right now I'd love to see The Shins' "Simple Song" (#3 on AAA) and Regina Spektor's "Don't Leave Me (Ne Me Quitte Pas)" (AAA adds on April 23) get pushes on Pop. Both are upbeat, positive songs with quotable lyrics broad messages, and interesting instrumentation, and highly listenable vocals. Pop loves that right now. "Simple Song," I think has the much better chance of being a hit out of these two.
Thoughts?

Haley Reinhart - "Free" Keane - "Silenced By The Night" Ed Sheeran - "The A Team" Mayer Hawthorne - "The Walk" or "No Strings" Graffiti6 - "Stare Into The Sun" (when "Free" is done, though--if it ever starts, that is) Dia Frampton f/Kid Cudi - "Don't Kick The Chair" M83 - "Midnight City" (it's been sent there, I think, but not really promoted) BeyoncΓ© - "Love On Top" (again) John Legend f/Ludacris - "Tonight (Best You Ever Had)"

Melanie Fiona's "4 AM" and Lana Del Rey's "Video Games" (I don't think this ever got an adds date) are the ones that came immediately to mind. They're both slow, but I could see them doing fairly well if given a push and enough time.

Ed Sheeran - "The A Team" This one is sure to come. Hell yes! I could name some retroactively, but I think the point if this thread is to speculate on current/future singles?

Doobie Brothers - Brighter Day
This could be huge during the summer if they actually send it.

Love on top should have been sent weeks ago....even if they had to remix it Ala motivation. I don't even care if it flopped I just wish they would have taken the chance. It hit #65 so obviously there was some interest :(

I could name some retroactively, but I think the point if this thread is to speculate on current/future singles? I think it would be more relevant that way; discussions of what 'could have been' are redundant and don't go anywhere. I couldn't agree more about "Free" and "Love on Top." "Some Nights" has been confirmed as a single, but not necessarily a pop single so I agree there too.

If Gotye was given a chance, I don't know why Ed Sheeran's "The A Team" can't... I love that song. I've only ever heard it on the local HAC station and that was only a few times.

Doobie Brothers - Brighter Day This could be huge during the summer if they actually send it. Yeah...uh, I just listened to this and I don't even know that AC would play it. CHR wouldn't touch it with a fifty-foot pole. I agree on "Good Girl," "Tongue Tied," "Some Nights," "Favorite Song," and maybe even "Simple Song" and "Little Talks." (I'm fairly confident that Colbie will get the push, though, considering "Brighter Than The Sun" didn't do that poorly and this is more catered to the pop audience.) EDIT: "Lonely Boy" too

I agree on "Tongue Tied." I'm not a huge fan of the song, but it sounds like it would work on Pop for sure.
Also from the Hot AC angle, The Script's "If You Ever Come Back."

How did I forget "Tongue Tied"? Yep, add that to my list as well.
And I know it's a little on the old side, but with fun. and Gotye blowing up, AWOLNATION's "Sail" could do well on pop too.

I also think Michel Telo's "Ai Se Eu Te Pego"/"If I Catch You" should be sent to Pop radio. It's already a craze everywhere else in the world and so many people already know it from sporting events/ viral videos that they should at least try with it. I don't think it would go Top 10 or anything, but it could go Top 30 easily. This is the only country where it hasn't been released!

Coldplay - Paradise. I know they already tried it, but it got pretty big on HAC and it should be given a second chance on pop.

One Direction- One Thing
It definitely needs to be the next single here in the states. Although if WMYB continues to stall then I don't see how One Thing could do any better.

if WMYB continues to stall Stall? ??? It has the third biggest bullet in the top 40, only behind "We Are Young" and "Boyfriend." I wouldn't consider that stalling.

True, but bullet the decreased and it's been at 18-19 for a while. Of course I know that it's nothing to be worried about it, but I'm still skeptical about how far a song like this can go in today's CHR.
I'd love to be proven wrong.

I still think from a record label standpoint, they should release a global phenomenon in the US too even though it obviously won't be as big as it is in Europe and South America.
