Paul wrote this song in response to critics (including John Lennon) who accused him of writing lightweight love songs. It was released as the lead single from Wings at the Speed of Sound and spent 5 non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 beginning in May of 1976. It went on to become Billboard's #1 Hot 100 single of 1976.
I love this song.

I just heard this song for the first time on the radio. It came up after a streak of atrocious songs ("Tell it to my heart" remix by Filatov and Karas, I don't know if this even charts anywhere besides continental Europe, "Mama Said" by Lukas Graham and a Modern Talking song), and hearing this was just beautiful. I knew the song for a long time, but that kinda made me appreciate its wonderful simplicity, such a joyful and happy song. Songs like these are very rare, even back in 1976 when it was released there was only one song that was equally joyful and happy, "December 1963" by Four Seasons. There's just something so timeless about this.

This is such a wonderful, uplifting song. I discovered this song in 2005 when Dance/Pop singer Jenn Cuneta sampled some instrumental elements of this for her hit "Come Rain Come Shine".
