The following are all the Gold albums on the Billboard 200 this week.
Which ones will eventually scan a million units and be certified 1xp?
Scanning 1 million is a hit in today's market.
Sales figures are not exact. They are rounded.
Rihanna 930k - definitely LMFAO 865k - maybe Nickelback 865k - maybe One Direction 860k - definitely Foster The People 845k - probably not Black Keys 845k - yes Kelly Clarkson 840k - yes Blake Shelton 720k - no Florence & The Machine 650k - maybe Young Jeezy 610k - no Brantley Gilbert 610k - no Carrie Underwood 585k - yes Miranda Lambert 575k - no Toby Keith 540k - no Gotye 540k - probably not Hunger Games Sdtk. 400k - no Rascal Flatts 295k - no
PS: I left off Elton John, Bee Gees, Kenny Chesney and Luke Bryan since they are Catalog titles.

Nickelback selling 865k is quite amazing considering they've had no hits whatsoever.

I would be shocked if Nickelback doesn't sell 1 million. I'd put them under "definitely" because they always manage to have great longevity.

Rihanna 930k - YES. ABSOLUTELY One Direction 860k - YES. ABSOLUTELY Kelly Clarkson 840k - Yes. Absolutely Blake Shelton 720k - NO. Carrie Underwood 585k - YES. ABSOLUTELY Miranda Lambert 575k - NO. But if the Country Awards still give her those album awards, i think it will eventually get platinum Rascal Flatts 295k - No.

Rihanna 930k - Without a doubt. LMFAO 865k - Possibly. They really need another single from it, but that's not going to happen. Nickelback 865k - Wow! They're already that high?! Yeah, definitely. One Direction 860k - Absolutely Foster The People 845k - I don't see it, especially not without another single. Black Keys 845k - I think it could. Kelly Clarkson 840k - It definitely should. Especially if there is a fourth single. Blake Shelton 720k - Probably not. Florence & The Machine 650k - Eh... maybe. Young Jeezy 610k - No. Brantley Gilbert 610k - No. Carrie Underwood 585k - She should. Especially if "Blown Away" is huge and crosses over. Miranda Lambert 575k - I don't see it happeninig. Toby Keith 540k - No. Gotye 540k - Ha ha! No. Hunger Games Sdtk. 400k - No. It's done. Rascal Flatts 295k - If it's still that low, then no.

Are you that sure? Breakthrough albums tend to have legs even when they're backed by only one major hit (see Foster the People)

I only did ones I'm fairly certain about, and then I gave where I think the album sales will top out by the end of their respective eras, and why.
Rihanna 930k - Yes ~1.1-1.2 million -- Depending on how big Where Have You Been becomes (it's already growing rapidly), they could release one more off of the album. That, and awards season for the album hasn't really even happened yet (VMAs, AMAs, Grammys, etc.) Nickelback 865k - Unfortunately ~idgaf they suck One Direction 860k - Yes ~1.5-1.7 million -- One Thing is shaping up to be a smash follow-up to WMYB, so I don't see any reason as to why they couldn't easily reach the 1.5 million mark if they've managed to sustain such fantastic sales with their first smash. That, and they've already publicized how a new record is coming soon enough. Kelly Clarkson 840k - Yes ~1.4-1.5 million -- Dark Side is just starting its (hopefully) large run at radio and on the charts, and they could easily work off 1-2 more strong singles off of the album before moving to the next. Plus, Kelly still hasn't even toured internationally for this album yet (correct me if I'm wrong, please), so that could help out a bit. Carrie Underwood 585k - Yes ~1.8-2 million -- She's already managed nearly 600k off of one single, and Blown Away could shape up to be one of her biggest hits. That, and she has yet to tour the US (she's already been touring internationally), and I can't see this album going anything less than 4 or 5 singles deep, so it should be able to carry itself, especially with a lot of crossover potential. Miranda Lambert 575k - No ~750-800k (800k is an absolute max) -- I don't see any other songs on this album pulling it to a Platinum position. Great album to follow up Revolution, but it doesn't have (and probably won't have) the same hit that The House That Built Me was for her in 2010. Rascal Flatts 295k - No ~500k, 550k tops -- Weak album with mediocre choices for singles, and they seem to be turning into the "Rihanna of Country music" (one album every year), so I don't think this album's legs will be very long.

and what about this one ? John Mayer 370K It hasn't been certified Gold yet by the RIAA. It's eligible. I probably should have considered the Foster The People album as Catalog. For Gotye, depends on how well the next single does.

I agree with all of areyoureadytojump's predictions, except for Gotye. I think he'll scrape his way to a million eventually.

Hunger Games could get a boost when the movie sees its home video release.

Considering we have TK releasing mediocre material annually, do we need RF following the pattern too?

I think Florence and Miranda will both go platinum, but it will most likely take another year. Florence's album has shown impressive consistent sales, and I'm sure that Miranda will get a boost from the Country Music Award season.

... a 425k boost, really? How many big country music award shows will she be eligible for? I could see her throughout the entire season getting probably a 200-300k boost probably when all is said and done. She also has a chance to score big at the grammys which could help a lot. after all that she'll probably be around a 100k short of platinum, which is close enough to be certified platinum. I'm not saying she'll go platinum quick(I see it happening by next summer earliest) but I don't think its far fetched to think that in 12 months she has a good chance to be close to a million.

The CMAs this November are the last Country awards show her album is eligible for, because she already won for the ACMs this past April. I don't think this album will be getting any major Grammy love because she didn't have the hit that she had with The House That Built Me to make as much of an impact. Plus, there are other Country albums with solid reviews, bigger hits, and more hype (see Eric Church's Chief, Carrie Underwood's Blown Away, etc.) that could easily trump her in the awards season. She'll reach Platinum eventually, but I'd say it will be later into her next album's release.

I can see Miranda eventually going Platinum with Four the Record. Her first three albums all accomplished that (the first with minimal radio support, and the second crossed the million mark after Revolution blew up big), and she's only just released single #3 from the record (which will likely have 5 total).

Are you that sure? Breakthrough albums tend to have legs even when they're backed by only one major hit (see Foster the People) They also had many other alternative hits to go with that album. Gotye has yet to score another hit anywhere in the U.S. (EWO isn't doing the best on alternative.) Besides, FTP haven't scanned 1 million either.

But if there is no restricted time period we are talking about, eventually each album will get closer and closer. Yes, it may take "forever" if they eventually are only selling 200 a week.

I'm not going to update this thread with new Gold albums. I'd say at least through the end of the year...
