Billboard.com:
Nas Bows at No. 1 with 'Life is Good' by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | July 25, 2012
Hip-hop veteran Nas achieves his sixth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, as "Life Is Good" bows with 149,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That surpasses initial forecasts for the set by industry prognosticators, which had pegged it to begin with around 125,000.
Nas previously hit the top with "It Was Written" (1996), the collaboration set "The Firm" (1997; with Foxy Brown, AZ and Nature), "I Am" (1999), "Hip-Hop Is Dead" (2007) and "Untitled" (2008). The latter -- Nas' last solo studio release -- arrived with 187,000. More recently, his 2010 "Distant Relatives" collabo effort with Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley started at No. 5 with 57,000.
On the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, Nas also debuts at No. 1, securing him his ninth topper on the tally. Among rap acts, only Jay-Z has earned more leaders on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart, with 12.
Last week's No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, Zac Brown Band's "Uncaged," falls to No. 2 with 78,000 (down 67%). The new "Kidz Bop 22" collection starts at No. 3 with 64,000 -- marking the 15th top 10 for the long-running series. The latest entry in the franchise offers up kid-friendly covers of such Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles as the Wanted's "Glad You Came," Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" and Nicki Minaj's "Starships."
The last regular "Kidz Bop" title, "Kidz Bop 21," bowed at No. 2 earlier this year with 59,000. A No. 1 set still eludes the "Kidz" -- as the line has launched a total of four No. 2-peaking albums.
In its second week, Frank Ocean's "Channel Orange" slips two spots down to No. 4 with 54,000 (down 59%) after becoming widely available to all retailers last week. (That number does not include sales from Amazon MP3, as it sold the title for $2.99 last week. Per Billboard policy, that is below the minimum price of $3.49 required for sales to count towards chart placement during an album's first four weeks of release.) Justin Bieber's "Believe" dips 3-5 with 45,000 (down 1%) while a surprising album returns to the chart at No. 6. Phil Collins' "Hits" bounds back onto the list at No. 6 with 40,000 sold (up 4,575%) after Amazon MP3 sold the set for 99-cents one day last week. Unlike the Frank Ocean album, this title's discounted Amazon MP3 sales are allowed to count as the set is more than four weeks old.
"Hits" originally peaked at No. 18, where it debuted, on Oct. 24, 1998. With the album's return to the list, it instantly gives Collins his first top 10 -- and highest charting album -- since 1989's "But Seriously" spent four weeks at No. 1. It's now his fourth top 10, joining "Face Value" (No. 7), "Hello, I Must Be Going!" (No. 8), "No Jacket Required" (No. 1) and "But Seriously."
"Hits" isn't the only set impacted by 99-cent pricing by Amazon this week, as Bruno Mars' "Doo Wops & Hooligans" rises from No. 135 to No. 11 with 27,000 (up 644%) and Demi Lovato's "Unbroken" zooms 124-27 with 13,000 (up 239%). The latter was promoted for 99-cents on Sunday, July 22 -- the same day she co-hosted Fox TV's "Teen Choice Awards."
One Direction's "Up All Night" holds at No. 7 with 36,000 (down less than 1%) while the soundtrack to "The Dark Knight Rises" debuts at No. 8 with 33,000. The Water Tower Records soundtrack is the first top 10 album from a "Batman" film since 1997's "Batman & Robin" flew to No. 5. That effort was a various artists affair, unlike the new "Knight" set, which features only Hans Zimmer's score. "The Dark Knight Rises" is the first all-score set to reach the top 10 since Daft Punk's instrumental soundtrack to "Tron: Legacy" peaked at No. 4 on the list dated Jan. 22, 2011. "The Dark Knight Rises" is also the highest-debuting score album in just over 10 years. The last to bow higher was John Williams' "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones," which launched at No. 6 on the chart dated May 11, 2002.
Rounding out the top 10 on the Billboard 200 this week is Adele's "21" (8-9 with just under 33,000; down 7%) and Maroon 5's "Overexposed" (5-10 with 29,000; down 35%).
Over on the Digital Songs chart, we have a new No. 1 as Flo Rida's "Whistle" rises 3-1 with 211,000 (up 10%). It's his first chart-topper since 2009's "Right Round" spent six weeks atop the list. Flo bumps last week's No. 1, Katy Perry's "Wide Awake," down to No. 3 with 170,000 (down 17%).
Jason Aldean's new single "Take a Little Ride" climbs in at No. 2 with 189,000 -- the largest debut sales week ever for a digital song by a male country artist. It beats Scotty McCreery's debut with "Love You This Big" a little over a year ago, when it launched with 171,000.
Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" slips 2-4 (164,000; down 19%), Ellie Goulding's "Lights" rises 6-5 (134,000; down 11%) and Pink's "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" descends 4-6 (just under 134,000; down 22%).
Maroon 5's "Payphone" (featuring Wiz Khalifa) falls 5-7 (131,000; down 15%) while fun.'s "Some Nights" jumps into the top 10, rising 11-8, with 120,000 (up 16%). David Guetta's "Titanium" (featuring Sia) drops 7-9 (116,000; down 8%) and Cher Lloyd's "Want U Back" dips 9-10 (110,000; down 4%).
Right outside the top 10, No Doubt's new single "Settle Down" arrives at No. 13 with 87,000 downloads. How long has it been since No Doubt released a new single? So long that the group had never previously charted on the nearly eight-year-old Digital Songs chart. The Digital Songs tally launched in late 2004 -- months after the group's last single, 2003's "It's My Life," completed its run on Billboard's charts.
Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending July 22) totaled 5.35 million units, down 4% compared with the sum last week (5.56 million) and down 5% compared with the comparable sales week of 2011 (5.62 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 167.17 million, down 3% compared with the same total at this point last year (172.04 million).
Digital track sales this past week totaled 24.52 million downloads, down 2% compared with last week (25.07 million) and up 2% stacked next to the comparable week of 2011 (24.06 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 773.49 million, up 6% compared with the same total at this point last year (731.03 million).
Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2011 when: Eric Church's "Chief" came in at No. 1, selling 145,000 in its first week. Adele's "21" slipped from No. 1 to No. 2 with 83,000 (up 7%) while Kelly Rowland's "Here I Am" bowed at No. 3 (77,000).

Paul Grein's Yahoo! Chart Watch:
Week Ending July 22, 2012. Albums: What’s He Doing Here? By Paul Grein | Chart Watch
Phil Collins' tersely titled compilation album, …Hits, re-enters The Billboard 200 at #6. This is a new peak for the album, which originally peaked at #18 the week it entered the chart in November 1998. The album had two things going for it. It's studded with 12 top 10 hits. And it was on sale for just 99 cents at Amazon's MP3 store. (That comes out to about eight cents per top 10 hit. A sweet deal.)
That 99 cent deal lifted the album's weekly sales from less than 1K last week to 40K this week. Even though the album hadn't cracked the top 10 until this week, it has sold very well over the past 13 plus years. It has sold 3,429,000 copies.
…Hits is Collins' fifth top 10 album as a solo artist, which equals the number of top 10 albums he has had with Genesis. It's his first appearance in the top 10 since Genesis' We Can't Dance wound up a long run in the top 10 in March 1992. …Hits is #1 on Top Catalog Albums, displacing Zac Brown Band's The Foundation.
Amazon MP3's sale pushed three other albums back into the top 30. Bruno Mars' Doo-Wops & Hooligans vaults from #135 to #11 in its 94th week. Shinedown's Amaryllis rebounds from #108 to #24 in its 17th week. Demi Lovato's Unbroken vaults from #124 to #27 in its 29th week.
AmazonMP3 also put Frank Ocean's buzzed-about Channel Orange on sale for $2.99 on July 16. The move resulted in about 15K extra sales for the album. But they're not included in Ocean's sales tally this week. Billboard policy holds that albums must sell for a minimum of $3.49 during their first four weeks of release for the sales to count. If these 15K sales had counted, the album would have ranked #3 this week. Without them, it ranks #4. Ocean fans shouldn't get too riled, though. This album has "Grammy" written all over it, so expect it to have a long life.
All artists need to stay relevant, and there's probably no genre where that's more important than rap. That's why Nas' accomplishment this week is so impressive. Nas' Life Is Good enters The Billboard 200 at #1, a little more than 16 years after he first topped the chart with It Was Written. Only one hip-hop artist has had a longer span of #1 albums. Beastie Boys, whose identity encompasses pop, rap and alternative, has had #1 albums spanning 17 years and three months, from Licensed To Ill (March 1987) to To The 5 Boroughs (June 2004).
You don't need me to tell you that 16 years is a long time. 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G. were both alive and well in July 1996, when It Was Written entered the chart at #1. Justin Bieber was two years old, just learning to say "baby-baby-baby" (a phrase that would come in handy later in life).
Wanna know the rap artists who are next in line behind Beastie Boys and Nas for the longest spans of #1 albums? Jay-Z's #1 albums span 12 years and 10 months, from Vol. 2…Hard Knock Life (October 1998) to Watch The Throne (with Kanye West, Aug. 2011). Eminem's span 10 years and three months, from The Marshall Mathers LP (May 2000) to Recovery (August 2010).
Life Is Good is Nas' fifth #1 album, not counting a 1997 album by the rap collective The Firm. That album, The Firm-The Album, also featured Foxy Brown, AZ and Nature. Only two rap artists in history have had more than five #1 albums. Jay-Z leads with 12; Eminem has had six (not counting two albums he recorded as part of D12). Tied with Nas with five #1 albums are DMX, Kanye West and 2 Pac.
Life Is Good sold 149K copies this week, which is the second biggest one-week total so far this year for a hip-hop album. It trails Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, which opened with sales of 253K in April. Life Is Good sold 69K digital copies, which puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums.
Kidz Bop Kidz' Kidz Bop 22 debuts at #3. This is the 15th album in this series to make the top 10. The series was launched in October 2001, which means kidz who were bopping to the first volume (at, say, age seven) are now nearly 18. (The word "bopping" presumably means something different to them now.)
Justin Bieber's Believe advances to #6 on the year-to-date chart. It's #4 for the year-to-date among albums that were released in 2012. See next item.
One Direction's Up All Night this week becomes the first album that was released in 2012 to top the 1 million mark in sales. It achieves the feat in its 19th week on the chart. Here are the rest of the top five sellers so far this year that were released in 2012: Lionel Richie's Tuskegee (951K), Now 41 (725K), Justin Bieber's Believe (649K) and Carrie Underwood's Blown Away (644K).
One Direction's DVD Up All Night: The Live Tour is #1 for the eighth week on Top Music Videos. It sold 13,000 copies this week, bringing its eight-week total to 223K.
The Dark Knight Rises soundtrack debuts at #8. It's the fourth soundtrack to a Batman movie to reach the top 10, following Prince's Batman (#1 in 1989), Batman Forever (#5 in 1995) and Batman & Robin (#5 in 1997). Only two other franchises in movie history have yielded four or more top 10 soundtracks. Star Wars leads with five. Twilight has also had four. Hans Zimmer composed The Dark Knight Rises score. It's the first soundtrack score to make the top 10 since Daft Punk's score to Tron: Legacy reached #4 in January 2011. Zimmer has received nine Oscar nominations for his scores. He won for 1994's The Lion King.
The tragedy in Aurora, Colo. doesn't appear to have impacted the soundtrack. Industry projections, which were released before the attack, suggested that the album would debut right around #9 with sales of about 28K. It wound up with sales of 33K. (That's a normal difference between projected and actual sales.) The Dark Knight Rises is #1 on this week's Top Soundtracks chart, displacing Rock Of Ages. The movie was #1 at the box-office over the weekend. All three installments in director Christopher Nolan's trilogy have achieved that feat. Batman Begins spent two weekends at #1 in June 2005. The Dark Knight spent four weekends on top in July and August 2008.
Flo Rida's "Whistle" displaces Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" from the #1 spot on Hot Digital Songs. "Whistle" sold 211K copies this week, compared to 170K for "Wide Awake." Will one of these songs also hit #1 on the Hot 100, or will "Call Me Maybe" prevail for the seventh straight week? You'll find out later today when we post Chart Watch: Songs. Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 albums.
The Top Five: Nas' Life Is Good debuts at #1 (149K). This is Nas' 10th top 10 album; his fifth #1… Zac Brown Band's Uncaged dips from #1 to #2 in its second week (78K). The album is #1 on Top Country Albums for the second week…Kidz Bop Kidz' Kidz Bop 22 debuts at #3 (64K). This is the 15th album in this series to make the top 10… Frank Ocean's Channel Orange drops from #2 to #4 in its second week (54K)…Justin Bieber's Believe drops from #3 to #5 in its fifth week (45K). It has been in the top five the entire time.
The Second Five: Phil Collins' …Hits re-enters the chart at #6 (40K). This is its first week in the top 10. It's Collins' 10th top 10 album (counting five albums with Genesis)…One Direction's Up All Night holds at #7 in its 19th week (36K). This is its 18th week in the top 10… The Dark Knight Rises soundtrack debuts at #8 (33K). It's #1 on Top Soundtracks… Adele's 21 dips from #8 to #9 in its 74rd week (33K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time… Maroon 5's Overexposed drops from #5 to #10 in its fourth week (29K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time. Four albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Chris Brown's Fortune drops from #4 to #13, Linkin Park's Living Things drops from #6 to #14, Katy Perry's Teenage Dream drops from #9 to #15, and Kenny Chesney's Welcome To The Fishbowl drops from #10 to #16.
Pierce the Veil's third album Collide With The Sky debuts at #12. This marks a major breakthrough for the group, which didn't chart with its first album, A Flair For The Dramatic, and peaked at #106 with its second, Selfish Machines. Another punk band didn't fare as well. HellYeah's third album Band Of Brothers debuts at #19. This represents a drop-off from the group's two previous albums. HellYeah hit #9 in 2007. Stampede hit #8 in 2010.
Old Crow Medicine Show's Carry Me Back debuts at #21. This is the bluegrass band's highest-charting album to date. It tops Tennessee Pusher, which peaked at #50 in 2008…Matisyahu's Spark Seeker debuts at #22. This the fourth top 30 album by the Hasidic reggae rapper.
Elton John lands his first #1 album in the U.K. in 22 years as Good Morning To The Night debuts in the top spot on the Official U.K. Chart. The album consists of remixed versions of his 1970s classics, by Australian electronic/dance duo Pnau. This is Elton's seventh #1 album in this home country. This enables him to finally pull even with the number of #1 albums he has had in the U.S. since November 1975, when Rock Of The Westies debuted in top spot. Elton hasn't had a #1 album in the U.S. since Westies, though he has had six top 10 albums in that time, the most recent being The Union, a 2010 collabo with Leon Russell. (Incidentally, Good Morning To The Night takes its title from a line in "Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters," a song from Elton's 1972 album Honky Chateau.)
Queen's 1992 album Greatest Hits tops the 7 million mark in sales this week. It's the second best-selling greatest hits album by a British act in Nielsen SoundScan history (which dates to 1991). It trails only the Beatles' 1, which has sold 12,072,000 copies. (Note: I'm counting Eric Clapton's Unplugged as a live album, not a greatest hits set, though it obviously functioned as both. It has sold 7,622,000 copies.) Queen's Freddie Mercury died on Nov. 24, 1991. Clearly, his music lives on.
Coming Attractions: This week's new releases include Love And Theft's Love And Theft, Passion Pit's Gossamer and The Gaslight Anthem's Handwritten and Jennifer Lopez's Dance Again…The Hits.

Why would they count those when he wasn't the lead artist? I love Eminem as much as the next, but don't be foolish trying to get him more records.
8 Mile soundtrack is credited to "Various Artists". Eminem does not even appear on 50%, and not even close to 50% of it.
Devil's Night and D12 World are created to a group of D12 and once again, Eminem's vocal appearance is pretty much split ALMOST even with most members of the group. While he MIGHT be slightly more featured, his share is still like what, 15% of the total vocals on the cd? So why would he get a credit? Some people here.............

The list above looks like it was originally a Joel Whitburn list (and not Billboard) that he has been updating No, I think it was a list Billboard originally published when some act went #1. Here's the Billboard article saying that Recovery is Eminem's 6th #1 album: www.billboard.com/news/eminem-s-huge-recovery-leads-big-week-on-1004101453.story#/news/eminem-s-huge-recovery-leads-big-week-on-1004101453.story

Actually the Madonna Glee album or for purists Sugarland's Live On the Inside (which was #1 on the BB200 but got beat by catalog alabums) The following are all #1 albums in Nielsen-soundcan history that have yet to scan 300,000 copies, as well as supposed 'winner' Glee Cast's "Power of Madonna." (2010): Sugarland Live on the Inside 267,000 (but blocked by MJ's "#1s" on Comprehensive Albums) Glee Cast Power of Madonna EP 307,000 (2011): Cake Showroom of Compassion 99,000 during chart run The Decemberists The King is Dead 190,000 during chart run Amos Lee Mission Bell 85,000 during chart run Game The R.E.D Album 206,000 during chart run (2012): Adam Lambert Trespassing 144,000 so far Usher Looking 4 Myself 281,000 so far Chris Brown Fortune 205,000 so far Nas Life is Good 149,000 so far

I said Sugarland and Madonna because the other albums that you cite have not had sufficient time yet.
Current #1 Nas is a good example

You don't even see me claiming Eminem has 9. haha. also if you are going to count all of those he actually has 10. Bad Meets Evil album was #1.
Also, Billboard does Recognize it in some way. They came out with an article when Bad Meets Evil album his #1 that he was the first artist to have a Number 1 album under three different names or something. Eminem, D12, and Bad Meets Evil. Something like that.
So they do give Eminem his due.
This stat is one of the most misleading ones imo. Most #1 albums. etc. Some of the best artist only put out an album every 5-6 years. (TOOL for example). So they will never be high on lists like that cause of that fact.
Lateralus released in 2001. Easily Hit #1 10,000 Days released in 2006. Easily Hit #1
Next Album probably won't be till Early 2013. Holding out hope for Late 2012 but thats doubtful right now.
The Pot video on DVD may come out late this year.
If TOOL released an album every year they would easily be high on that list. But they don't so they are not.

Current #1 Nas is a good example I figured that's what you meant, and yeah, including Nas is obviously ridiculous since he'll obviously pass the Glee EP in just a few weeks, but I like to be as complete as possible. I think any album with catalog status (78+ weeks) would qualify, so I'm ready to include Showroom of Compassion and The King is Dead. (Mission Bell will qualify next week, too.)

I wonder how an Amazon 0.99$$ sale would affect some of those low selling albums.

Could Adam Lambert potentially have the lowest selling #1 album ever? It will probably end up the 3rd lowest selling #1 album.

I was simply posing a question, not making any sort of accusation or argument. As for why he should (potentially) have 9/10 (thanks to slicknick) #1 albums, I think that's pretty obvious: all of those albums went number one BECAUSE of Eminem. The 2 D12 albums? Obviously they sold because it's Eminem's group. BME? Eminem is 1/2 of the group, so if Jay Z earned a #1 album from BoBW or WTT, then yes, Eminem should get one for BME. The only one that seems reasonable to not include is the 8 Mile soundtrack, for the reason you pointed out. Although, as I said, it clearly sold the way it did because of Eminem and the success of "Lose Yourself." Lastly, if your argument rests on the amount of time spent by the billed artist actually appearing on a track (i.e., they have a verse/vocal presence), then what would you say about someone like DJ Khaled? He literally says his name and maybe yells the name of the album on his tracks. That's it. He doesn't make the beats either. He just gets the artists together.

'It's now his fourth top 10, joining "Face Value" (No. 7), "Hello, I Must Be Going!" (No. 8), "No Jacket Required" (No. 1) and "But Seriously."'
Not very good math here: I count 5, no matter how I look at it.
And Tarzan soundtrack would be his sixth but it's more debatable.
