The boys are nearly done prepping their next era, and the exciting details are slowly being revealed: The princes and Niall will perform their new single at the VMAs on Thursday, September 6. Apparently the song is not a Mariah Carey/Dionne Warwick cover (it's not called "Heartbreaker"). The boys have been working with Carl Falk, Savan Kotecha and Rami Yacoub ("What Makes You Beautiful"), Ed Sheeran ("Moments") and Max Martin, among others. The album will be released in November, and although we've heard about 11/27 and 11/20 as possible release dates, FYE seems to know something we don't. So it's looking like November 12 in the UK, and the 13th in North America. It's pretty much guaranteed that this era will be huge. I'm predicting top three on the Hot 100 for the lead single and another #1 album that will scan platinum by the end of the year.

So excited! I wish "Stole My Heart" could have been released, but Up All Night was a flawless record and I'm sure this one will be too. Hoping they break the most top ten hits from one album record.

That would be quite the accomplishment. Who holds that record now? :) The singles from Thriller by Michael Jackson, Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen and Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 by Janet Jackson (7 each). Janet's are all top five.

The princes and Niall will perform their new single at the VMAs on Thursday, September 6. Don't need Miss Cleo to envision how this will go down. I can hear the crowd roaring with acclaim already. Standing ovation for the frog and the princes. Song straight 2 iTunes #1 position.

Janet's are all top five. Cool. I didn't know it was a triple tie. Though you forgot to mention this is for albums with one release. The original statement was "Most top 10s on one album" which could feasibly include a re-released album. The record in that case would be held by another album, I believe. :) Would be nice if 1D got multiple top 10s this time around. It's unfortunate "One Thing" fell short.

I believe "One Thing" fell short cause of all the talk of this new album and single. When it became official the UAN era was coming to an end, radio decided to go ahead and end it early in preparation for the new music. So if thats the case, radio will probably jump all over the debut single in record numbers. I would love nothing more than to see it debut at #1 on the Hot 100. LA's radio stations need to get on board for that to happen tho. One of their stations was the only holdout in the entire Country not to add "Beautiful" and spin it even one time. Their other station only played the song a handful of times. I believe that is what kept it from going higher since they have such a huge audience.
I can't wait for the new album!

They move quick, but still such a shame "Stole My Heart" didn't get a single release. I'm sorry, but I will forever think that screamed "smash".

Then what's your hypothesis on "One Thing" stalling in the United States Top 40?

Wait I'm sorry, this is a real question - not sarcastic. Is all the hyperbole in this thread genuine? It almost seems ridiculous to me.

Then what's your hypothesis on "One Thing" stalling in the United States Top 40? Anything from poor timing, lack of promotion, too similar to the previous single, anti-boyband stigma, getting lost in the shuffle, etc. Whatever it is, I'm certain that it's nothing to do with radio deciding to tone down the plays in preparation for a new era. Radio does not do that. If the song is hot and people are responding to it well, radio will play it regardless of any plans of new music coming soon. I expect the reason that their label did absolutely nothing for the song is because they didn't care and were ready for the new album, so if that's what you mean, then yes, you could blame that, but reducing play in preparation for new music is not something radio does. Ever. It's only the fans that care about something like that.

I honestly don't see what they would have to stop playing to prepare for. I mean it's not like they need to train to play One Direction. Every time an artist I like is ready to put out more material I start to listen to them more. There should be no reason to stop playing them. If the new song was already out, that's one thing (see Rihanna's "Cheers") but buzz about an upcoming album/single should increase their radio plays. I agree with Slizzard. One Thing's biggest problems were timing and lack of promotion/poor iTunes performance. Radio stations were still spinning What Makes You Beautiful, so this pretty much got "forgotten"/lost in the shuffle by the time WMYB fell.

Wasn't really a mess-up on the label's fault, just them wanting to move on to the new album quicky, to coincide with the rest of the world's release of it.

One Direction's Harry Styles looks for mature attire as he hits designer storesHarry was spotted shopping at Dolce and Gabbana as well as other top brand names but didn't appear to pick anything up. With his brown locks pushed to the side he spent a large amount of time making phone calls outside the Italian designer shop. His wardrobe is changing but his eye for mature women has stayed the same as he tweeted about one he saw wearing a baseball cap while shopping. He said: 'Just saw a sixty year old lady wearing a 'SnapBack'. Yes.' 1D's new CD will be the next Adele "21." Big things are going to happen in 2013! I hope they are nominated and win the Grammy for Best new Artist. They more than deserve it!
