Why not? It's not even a rap song and its a massive hit on pop radio like "Where is the Love".

I don't see why it wouldn't chart. Some stations probably won't play because it's Outkast and think of them as rap.
EDIT: Mediabase reports "Hey Ya" being played on seven hot ACs. WZPL leads the pack with 32 spins.

OUtkast seems to have a very bad reputation among HOTAC PDs. That's a shame. I told someone just today that Outkast had a great song out, and they looked at me like I was listening to Devil Music or something. I asked them what is wrong they said "Outkast just has horribly dirty songs" I said "There is nothing bad in this song" and they just looked funny at me and walked away.

LOL, that's Kearney mentality for you. Hot AC stations KZZN and KLLC are giving this quite a few spins... so is WZPL but technically that's a pop station on the Hot AC panel. It's not rap, but I don't think it's very Hot AC friendly--though I could see it making the very bottom part of the Hot AC chart.

KZON is listed as Alternative, but I agree it's more of a Hot AC station.

Absolutely, I think "Hey Ya" is perfect for Hot AC. I know it's a CHR/Rhythmic type of track, but I think of the following also:
1) If The Wiseguys "Start the Commotion" could make the chart before, why not "Hey Ya"? It really isn't a rap song, otherwise it would be charting Urban right now, where "The Way You Move" is dominating. And while it has the Rhythmic bounce to it with the repeating "Shake it!", etc. the signature sound and hook to it is quite Hot AC friendly.
2) Even the video has a lot of class compared to all other videos that shares its genre. Not only MTV, but VH1 also, is playing the heck out of it. Even Alternative radio has given it Top 20 stardom.
3) Inevitably when a song hits big on CHR/Pop, it will cross-over, just as "Beautful" and "Miss Independent" is proof of that, both of which went recurrent on Hot AC.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Not only does the video have a lot more class I just think it's a much more classier song compared to the rest of that crap.

Oh, I don't know if I agree with this statement. Would you really expect "In Da Club" and "Shake Ya Tailfeather" to crossover to Hot AC radio? OK, maybe a couple of renegade stations will play it, but I don't consider that "crossing over". This is a multivariate function, Noah. It highly depends on the song and the artist.

I think what Noah meant is if a "pop" song does well on pop, it will invariably make a mark on AC as well. This includes even those songs with a more rhythmic sound, though of course not hip hop or rap tracks.
I don't really see "Hey Ya" doing well on the Hot AC charts; it may feature but it won't go that high.

Well, this week's chart answers this topic. Hey Ya! benefits from a weak Hot AC chart and debuts at #40!

Even though they don't call themselves hot AC, Star 94 in Atlanta is playing it! If you know anything about Star, they're a very conservative "CHR/pop" station.

It's great to see it at #20 already, Hot AC needs something like this. I just heard it on my Hot AC station for the first time tonight.

If Hey Ya! can get that high, then I'm disappointed Lose Yourself didn't even come close to that.

"Lose Yourself" was rap.... it would be much harder to pick up than "Hey Ya."

I was surprised to hear it on my Hot AC station in Cleveland. It was on Saturday though. Haven't heard it on a workday.

.. Shake it like a Polaroid Picture!!! This song is so infectious.. I thought it was annoying when I first heard it then it grew on me.. Great stuff!! It will also help to wake up some Hot A/C stations by adding a much needed touch of spice!!

"Lose Yourself" had no chance on AC...probally because...hmm...it wasnt AC! I wasn't talking about AC. A lot of songs that didn't belong on several formats got played on those formats just because they're huge e.g. "Complicated" on Rhythmic and I can'tremember whether it was Active Rock or Rock. So I don't see why Lose Yourself shouldn't be played on Hot AC. I'm not asking for it to be played on AC.

Maybe you're thinking of Triple A.
