A #3 peak for Bright Lights on HotAC? What happened? I thought this was a sure-fire #1 on HOTAC after Unwell's success. Maybe now we really do need to discuss whether or not Bright Lights was simply released too soon after Unwell's incredible chart run.
I think if Bright Lights is finished on HotAC, it is probably going to be done on CHR/pop as well.

I can never tell with the Hot AC charts, as long as it has a bullet it could still keep going for a while.

True enough, but a bullet of 6 spins looks like it is about done. About 3 weeks ago, Sarah's "Fallen" had a bullet of +7... and since then made it back to the +200's (although the bullet is now weak again).

Though I don't think "Bright Lights" will match the 4300-spin in one week height of "Unwell", I do think that "Bright Lights" should be able to peak in the 3800-3900 spin range and take #1 by default, just like Train's "Calling All Angels" did when "Unwell" lost spins.
I don't see 3 Doors Down having a very strong grip at #1 with "Here Without You" and "Bright Lights" sould finally leapfrog them. Plus "Why Don't You & I?" is losing spins at both formats and that will most likely guarantee "Bright Lights" one position higher at least.
In addition, since yesterday, "Bright Lights" surpassed the 3700/week mark for the first time from 3673, a sign that the single won't lose its bullet this week, and I truly believe "Bright Lights", even if Chingy, Clay Aiken, and Christina will all pass them first, can out-peak its #16 current peak and hang onto its bullet for at least a few more weeks.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

3 3 MATCHBOX TWENTY Bright Lights 3539 3551 -12
Now Bright Lights is losing its bullet, on Hot AC, at least. I've kind of lost interest with this song, it's a good song, but it wasn't a really good pick for a follow-up to "Unwell." It might still have a chance on Hot AC, I don't know.

Hopefully it will lose its bullet. It's overrated.
When was the last time 3 female solo artists were in the Hot AC Top 6 simultaneously?

Erm, Sheryl Crow, Vanessa Carlton & Avril Lavigne?
Or Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne & Jewel?

A lot of songs are slowing down due to some of the Hot AC stations switching to all-Christmas, so I wouldn't necessarily say this is the end of it for "Bright Lights".
I think it can get to #2 in a couple of weeks after "Why Don't You and I" falls below it.

And let's not forget that MB20 will be performing Bright Lights on VH1's Big in 2003 show this Sunday and over and over again in repeats! Should get a little more exposure for this song. I heard they got a standing ovation for the performance. I still really like it even after hearing it so much on my radio station. But they're still playing the hell out of Unwell too. The song that will not die!

They did a great rendition of Bright Lights on MTV last night with Hard Rock Live. The crowd went nuts!

I think it can get to #2 in a couple of weeks after "Why Don't You and I" falls below it. I'm in agreement with you here. I wouldn't be suprised if "Bright Lights" maintains longevity toward the end of this year. They had the Hard Rock Live performance, the upcoming performance on VH1's Big in 03, and it is things like that that are going to maintain this singles performance just a bit longer. And I think matchbox twenty's losses will be modest compared to Santana's, and they can peak at #2 considering the next bulleted singles below #3 are still a distance away. I can even go as far to say that 3 Doors Down may lose spins faster than "Bright Lights", and "Bright Lights" might squeak a week or two at #1. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I think that Bright Lights still has a chance at #1. I don't know about other Hot AC stations, but the ones here, have it as #1 on the playlists. It has really picked up it's steam this week. I could be wrong though....

- 3 doors down at #1 losing 51 spins - Matchbox twenty at #3 losing 201 spins
Bright Lights won't be #1

Bright Lights is done on Hot AC. The song is over 400 spins from #1 and losing 100 or more spins. They might be able to get to #2 thanks to the fall of Why Don't You & I, but I don't see it getting to #1, especially now that Sheryl Crow and Sarah McLachlan are making strong moves. And on a side note - this is 3DD's first #1 on Hot AC!

I'm surprised that Atlantic dropped the ball on this one. This song looked to be one of the few hits that an Atlantic artist would have over the next few months. Kid Rock's song isn't going to do much on Pop or Hot AC and Jewel is having a hard time with her singles. I guess the record company's financial woes has started to trickle down and the lack of promotion for Atlantic's core artists is going to have repercussions for months to come.

Am I the only one that expected this single to perform similar to how it actually has? I would say that this song isn't a huge disappointment like some of you are acting. I know that a lot of the members of this board have been in love with the song for a while, but I can honestly say that I'm kind of suprised its done as well at it has, making #23 on the Billboard Hot100, especially when you consider the performance of 'Disease'...
What will be interesting is to see if they try to go for a 4th single off of this album or not.

I want to borrow your crystal ball since it seems to be so accurate in predicting how well a song is going to do.
I thought the song would do better. I'm sorry that it isn't.

Did everyone here (myself included) start piling dirt on the grave of this song too soon? Bright Lights has now regained a bullet of over +100 and looks like it will at least peak at #2. Now we'll see if this is just some temporary fluke in the chart or if Bright Lights could pull a shocker and make it to #1.

It looks like it became a hit a little later in three cities, Tulsa, Omaha, and Colorado Springs.
It is decreasing on most other stations though, so I think unless the two songs above it start losing massive spins #2 is the highest this is gonna get.

If "Bright Lights" can maintain its spin totals on stations that have put it into high rotation for a while now, it can well certainly sneak a #1 effort like Train's "Calling All Angels" did. If 3 Doors Down begin losing spins faster at CHR/Pop, it may have a reciprocal effect on "Here Without You" on Hot AC and matchbox twenty may well go #1. Even if that doesn't happen, #2 is quite an honorable peak for this already legendary band in the making. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Do you think the Grammy nominations have affected this song's run on radio? I have been hearing it more often this week on my station. Unwell too, for that matter.

I also wonder if their performance of Bright Lights on Hard Rock Live last week may have helped. This is a killer live song and they nailed it on the show.

I think "Bright Lights" has a shot of going to #1 again. There are only 200 spins between 3DD and MB20. Santana has a bullet of +77, and 3DD is losing almost 100. Things can change, but at this rate MB20 could hit #1 by the end of next week.
