A very simple, acoustic-sounding tune that seems to have a growing appeal - increased 106 spins on R&R, and moved to #32 in its 2nd week. For some reason "Hey There" reminds me of one of those early-'70s soft rock or folkish ballads. If this was 1973, this song would probably sound too much like the others on the radio; but being 2007, it's a pretty welcome change - quite different than most of the material out there these days. I'm predicting success for this song - at least top 20 status on Hot AC this summer. Who knows - maybe in 8 to 12 months, the song might go for adds at AC.

Bumping this to the top.
It's up 188 spins on the 7-day chart. R&R's weekly chart from last week shows it as one of the most added (+5), as well as on the list of most increase in plays (+138).
Top 20, I tell ya! Do I hear top 10 down the road?

This song is really boring - but a lot of people seem to like it - 107.9 The Link/Charlotte added it months ago

I love it! Just a sweet little song. Could be something Fountains of Wayne would write. Hope it does well for them.

I think that shocker is the only one besides me on this board who likes it lol. Add Northcoast to the small list. ;) But seriously, it must have a high appeal out there. On R&R, it's the song with the most increased plays on Hot AC (+228 spins), and the 3rd most-added this week. It's gonna do well this summer. Is regular AC paying attention to the growing appeal; or is that format asleep at the wheel as usual?

Chris Parker on Mix 96.9's morning show thought this song sounded like something Simon & Garfunkel would have done about 35 or 40 years ago. It definitely sounds like an early '70s soft rock or folk song, but I can't really get the Simon & Garfunkel feeling from it.
The closest S&G song I can possibly compare it to is "The Boxer" - the lie-la-lie part sounds a little like Delilah. Maybe that's what he meant.

It debuted at #37 on Rick Dees this week. It debuted at #30 on AT40 this week.

At this point, I'd be shocked if this doesn't go to #1. It's got so much momentum behind it and I'm starting to hear it everywhere.

I remember back in the summer of 2004, "One Thing" hit #2 on the format. This is kind of like that, but much more catchy, so I think this can top the towers.

I think I'd like it a lot better if the lead singer could sing like Simon & Garfunkel - instead it sounds like Green Day singing a folk song - still, glad you guys love it so much

I added this one to Vancouver's AAA station, Evolution 107.9, about a month ago. It seems to be a popular track!

In a way, "Hey There" sounds a little like "Time of Your Life". Nothing wrong with that.

This is really weird, but I like this song a lot more when I hear it on Top 40 stations, which SPEED UP THE TEMPO

CHR/pop stations are known for increasing the pitch on the music they play, making it sound more up-tempo.
Not only that, but so many of those stations like to play the re-mix versions of slower songs. I remember a top 40 outlet here in Phoenix spun the re-mix version of "Breathe" by Faith Hill back in 2000. It sounded more like Britney Spears than Faith Hill; but I suppose they do that to keep the younger listeners from getting too bored.

"Stolen" by Dashboard Confessional (which flopped at Hot AC for some reason - I'm still not sure why) was SPED UP (they remixed a faster version of it) and send to CHR/Pop and it did relatively well on many Top 40 stations and charted in the high 20s on CHR/Pop chart

+366 increase on Mediabase - definitely I think the next #1 Hot AC song (unless Maroon 5 overtakes Daughtry)

Am the only person in the world who doesn't like this song?
It looks like it will go #1 on Hot AC by late July, early August.

I never loved it, but it grew on me, and I think it has very little burn - looks like my prediction was correct :) and this song will overtake Lifehouse in the next couple of weeks

If this was 1973, I could see how "Hey There" would burn out quickly. That was during the time when quite a few of those similar-sounding acoutstic soft-rock songs overwhelmed the charts.
Being that this kind of song is a big change of pace in 2007, however, it's actually refreshing to hear something like this instead of all the (c)rap or hip-hop - such as an R&B singer featuring a rapper, a rapper featuring an R&B singer, or a rapper featuring another rapper featuring a clan of other singers or rappers sampling copyrighted songs in the recording. Uggggh!

It's now top 10 on Hot AC and still increasing by a large number of spins (+247 at last count).
I'll be surprised if this doesn't hit #1.

I kind of expected it to hit #1 at Triple A, I just lost all sense of hope of why it's doing so well at other formats. >:(

"Hey There" is finally top 30 at regular AC.
But the big news for this song is that it's now #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 - replacing the senseless "Umbrealla" at the summit.

^ Lifehouse is too mainstream for AAA I think. Although they sure do eat up John Mayer, and he's even more "famous".
