^ This is getting "constant" airplay, like "Fly" by Sugar Ray f/SuperCat did back in 1997. Good songs, they just get overplayed, which is why I'm getting sick of this song.
This song and "Big Girls Don't Cry" are truly ruling the "Dog Days" of summer on Hot AC (I know it's technechally "Home" and "Makes me Wonder", but those are both old and you don't realize your listening to them as much).
Both Hot ACs I pick up, the pop station, and even the modern rock station play this all the time. It'll be a matter of time before the AC station does, too.
1 1 DAUGHTRY Home 2006 RCA/RMG 3703 3731 -28 18.579 2 2 MAROON 5 Makes Me Wonder 2007 A&M/Octone/Interscope 3443 3451 -8 17.834 3 3 PLAIN WHITE T'S Hey There Delilah 2005 Hollywood 2949 2732 217 15.549
It's still miles away from breaking the Daughtry/Maroon 5 barrier, though.

IMO "Big Girls Don't Cry" has more substance to it lyrically - "Hey There Delilah" IMO is getting boring when you hear it a million times (even though I still like it better than BGDC)

I'm getting a little tired of it, but it's still a good song overall IMO.
It's a huge hit on CHR, Hot AC, Triple A, and modern rock; AND it's #1 for a 2nd week on the Hot 100! Pretty impressive for a song of this nature.
AC is still slow at picking it up, but it's finally top 30 there. It took me a while to figure out, but I think one reason some AC stations are reluctant to add it is due to the band itself. Plain White T's are a pop-punk band - along the same lines as Jimmy Eat World and Bowling for Soup.

Even though it gets annoying hearing it so much, it's so much better than a lot of other crap that gets played, like "Umbrella" and "Rehab", not to mention "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" still in high recurrent rotation on most Hot ACs.

I'm hearing this waaaay too much too, LOL. I still like it though.

^ Lifehouse is too mainstream for AAA I think. Although they sure do eat up John Mayer, and he's even more "famous". I think Lifehouse is maybe a little too "in your face" and aggressive for Triple A. Although AAA loves the White Stripes, though I think they somehow produce a more laid back in your faceness.

Sorry to get off-topic, but I don't get how my Triple A station plays "Slide" "Black Balloon" and "Give A Little Bit", but won't touch the new Goo Goo Dolls song "Before It's Too Late" - they do the same thing w/ Matchbox 20 - they play "3 A M" and "Real World" all the time but won't play any Rob Thomas/M20 from after 2005 - and the White Stripes/Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. Lifehouse thang I'll never get - I'd say Lifehouse might be too mainstream, but so is "Slide" and "3 A. M."

They seem to be willing to play old and new material by classic rock artists, and even experiment with the newer, lesser-known singers or bands. As for Triple-A being unwilling to spin the new MB20 or Goo Goo Dolls songs, perhaps it's because those bands were once alternative, but now they're highly in the mainstream. That's similar to what many modern rock stations do also.

Yeah, ATL basically now has two Triple A stations b/c 99X has basically transformed from Alternative to Triple A I just get frustrated when I keep hearing Wilco (really boring) and Robert Randolph and the Family Band or whatever it's called when no one's playing "Before It's Too Late" in all of the city (Star 94 only adds Hot AC songs when they go for CHR adds and then plays them really late) Triple A does play Emerson Hart though and I like the John Butler Trio - they also play "Soul Meets Body" by Death Cab For Cutie in recurrent which IMO is one of the best songs of the past few years

I'm glad to see other people finding this song annoying and overplayed. I really don't get why it's so damn popular considering it's not that catchy and it's anticlimactic.

Well, even though some of us are growing tired of "Hey There", it's still a nice change of pace compared to most of the top hits in the last few years on CHR-type of radio. I'd still rather hear "Hey There" than most anything by Fall Out Boy, 50-Cent, Eminem, Fabolous or Justin Timberlake.

I actually like Fall Out Boy...which is weird because I typically don't like that type of music.

This is one of those kind of songs I instantly connect with. This is how music should sound more often.

Looks Plain White Ts will have the new #1 song on the 8/18 mediabase chart and the 9/1 AT20 show. Too bad, because I'll always remember "Hey There Delilah" as a summer song.
That will be the first time in 26 weeks that the #1 spot on Hot AC is not occupied by Nickelback or Daughtry.

That will be the first time in 26 weeks that the #1 spot on Hot AC is not occupied by Nickelback or Daughtry. That's a good observation! Nickelback and Daughtry have become core artists on this format, but I wonder how successful Plain White T's will be after "Delilah" starts to fizzle. I can't say for sure, but something tells me they might be a 1 or 2-hit wonder.

Casey Kasem was saying that Delilah is a real person that the lead singer of Plain White T's was attracted to, but hardly knew. She was attending Columbia University when the song was being written about her.
Casey announced that it's the new #1 song this week, just as "Big Girls" leaps to #1 in reality and replaces "Delilah". Why is AT20 so far behind?

Why is AT20 so far behind? Here's a basic timeline for how a Casey show is produced (just an educated guess): - Mediabase chart is finalized on Sunday (September 2 for example) - AT20 staff goes to work on Monday and begins to write a script - Script is finished and approved sometime on Tuesday - Casey records AT20 and AT10 on Wednesday and or Thursday - Show is put together on Thursday and or Friday - Show is mailed out to radio stations (or made available via ftp) on Saturday or Monday (September 8 or 10) - Show arrives at radio station by mid week. - Show airs during its weekend time slot (September 15 or 16) Thus it takes 2 weeks from the time the chart is finalized to when the show actually airs.

Anyone else getting really sick of this song? Think it'll start to fall soon - just my guess I've become burnt out on Delilah as well. I did get a VERY early jump on it though, so I've spun it to death.

Some trivia about this song - useless or not.
It was top 5 at CHR, Hot AC, regular AC, and alternative. That's got to be a 1st for a song to be top 5 status at all 4 of those formats in a long, long, long long time!

This song, I was into when it first got play on Alternative. So you can imagine how burnt I am on it now. I turn it whenever this song comes on, which is a lot. Great song, but I'm sick of it. Play something new already.

When was the last one, do you think? I'm not 100% sure, but I think "All I Wanna Do" by Sheryl Crow was the last big hit (top 5 charting) on all 4 formats - AC, Hot AC, alternative, and CHR.
